My PS3 is doing the same thing. It started on my "Dragon Age II" and now it effects virtually every game except for some of the simpler games like "Pain" or "Dante's Inferno". The worst games to play with this problem are "NBA 2K11", "Mass Effect 2" and "Saboteur". My "Mass Effect 2" freezes something awful now. I have an 80GB backwards compatable fat unit in which I switched the hard drive to a 500GB. I don't want to buy a new unit. I'm thinking about taking this one apart and cleaning it.
Maybe you have to change the thermal pads and the thermal paste. I have the same problem. I buy one kit for that in "ifixit" but dont arrived to my country. :-(
The same thing is happening to me. ON deus ex HR, Mass Effect 2, Batman Arkham city. Simple games like Rayman origins are still fine but anything thats slightly demanding gets fucked with this stretching glitch and random color flashes. Sometimes when im playing skyrim, smoke from braziers and such will appear neon pink or green. sometimes blue. idk if my warranty is up yet or not i forgot where i filed it. I have the 2nd gen 80gb. really dont feel like dropping the money on a new system.
Mine did the exact same thing. It's also the 60 gig version. The GPU is overheating. Take it outside and blast it with a leaf blower and 6 pounds of dust will fly out. You wont damage the dvd player because it's all enclosed. Just don't blast directly into the DVD insert slot. All other things are fine to blast into. Now it's running nice and cool again without the lines.
@gamecrazy6741 when that happened i just stop playing it and i got a slim one sorry for no help but thats all i did it might be the graphics card inside but not sure
i have the same fucken problem anybody found a way 2 solve it? it happens 2 my nba 2k11, assasin creed brotherhood and black ops i cant play them cuz it crappy ass fuk!
I used to own a 40GB PS3 and enjoyed it and never had these problems... Now I continuously have this problem with an 80GB PS3 that i own (got it cuz it was BC)... And with me being broke because of college I unfortunately have to just deal with this,.... smh :/ Kind of hard to play Demon Souls and focus when my character has a long strip hangin out of his ass..
I use to have the same problem, also had a few other graphic problems. I took apart my PS3, cleaned it up, and it helped a bit... but eventually it would do this after 20mins. After reading about overheating on it, I tried everything except for Heat Sink Compound. Once I got some and applied it, my system started to work flawlessly. If you have this problem, and your warranty date has passed, and you want to do it yourself, just go learn about Thermal Paste and how to apply it. Good luck.
I have the same problem. It worked great until I got assassins creed brotherhood and then it started stretching like crazy and eventually has started doing it in all my games.
Hi everybody, i have the same problem after installing the new firmware 3.66....my ps3 is a fat 60gb....is there a way to fix the problem? Or someone knows if Sony could change my system even if is not in warranty? (for me the problem is due to the new firmware....) Thanks a lot!
Mine is a 60gb launch system and I have had similar problems with graphics stretching for awhile now. I have seen in first person shooters a graphic stretch coming from my characters hand and on landscapes. Also I get the popping of graphics and flashes as well. I am waiting to get a new one once their is another price drop which is coming soon as websites have reported.
My video is the SW: TFU (60GB 1st gen as well) and it's been going on for a long time. Started last year with Assassin's Creed and has gotten progressively worse. It's an issue related to the BD Drive. A couple of months ago I started noticing white flickering dots (like four or five) when I would play BD or DVD. The dots don't show up on Netflix or anything else that isn't disc-based. Called Sony. they'r giving me current gen slim for $99 no tax, no s/h. Score!
It happens to me too. Fucking annoying. Mine is 60 GB launch unit. I'm getting a new one but I'll keep this f** piece of shit and fix it later because of the backward compatibility.
I'm having the same problem.... I have also the 60 gig ps3 with retrocompatibility since launch...
I think it's time to buy a new one!!!! :( (cause this is obviously a hardware problem and i don't believe that sony will fix it if i send it ((or if they do.. it will cost almost the same that a new one)) ) :S
@davmacedo Wrong. I called Sony today about the same issue and they gave me the option to get a current gen system (120 GB, I assume) $99 provided I send this one back to them. Got the Confirmation letter in my inbox. Despite rumors to the contrary, Sony's US Customer Service is fantastic (lately they've had long wait times due to the PSN issues). Doesn't matter how old your unit is, call Sony first to see if they can help.
I have the same problems with mine but on mine it's much worse, like on any copy of NBA 2k11 it always freezes on the tip off, and on black ops it flashes in wierd colors.
i just downloaded pain and installed all new updates. the fucking pice of shit ruined my graphics card now all my games look like total shit. SO PISSED.
I have the exact same stretching problem. I tried replacing the lazer without success. Need help fixing but if sony couldn help you i doubt i'll be able to fix it.
I have the exact same stretching problem. I need help fixing. But if sony couldnt help you I doubt i'll find a solution. was your ps3 a 80 gb backwards compatable?
Shadow: My PS3 is working fine (mine is the 80gb core, before the slim was announced). the only problem I got is that when I go to the Internet Browser and exit out. It freezes my whole PS3 and I had to turn off the whole system off. Has anyone else has this similar issue?
i to have the same issue and every now and then very rarley while playing games online as well i get the freezing issue also to the guys on about streching do you mean upscaling ? if so a better tv to upscale on would be a start
Sounds to me like the laser isn't reading the disc right or the console is misinterpreting the information read, unfortunately I can't help you beyond that, definitely get in touch with Sony though :)
oh boy. Uh, since I'm not really good with fixing things, but I'll try my best. My guess is maybe the laser in the system that's reading your discs. If not, then I say call Sony and at least show them this video. That's all I can say. ^_^'

@devilgunman
Just buy a new PS2 slim for the backward compatibility. You can use the PS3's component wires with your PS2 slim, and the games look great.
