  • I love the way the music would just take over Ian, the way he would move was beautiful, not practised or to impress, just being taken along with the feeling of the moment.

  • He used to drink what? warm what?

  • @buddybuchanan Carlsberg Special

  • @buddybuchanan

    Piss

  • Sam Riley as Ian curtis is spot on. I watch videos of Ian and I see Sam and it's like they look so alike, just his portrayal of Ian Curtis was amazing

  • Bernard :) what a lovely guy....he reminds me of Simon...from Duran Duran...for some odd reason :| haha

  • pseudo-religious fanatical hardline also. VERY EDUCATING!

  • So intense and pseudo-gangster.

  • THE BEST PUNK BAND EVER.

  • Ian Curtis, a tortured soul, part of his mystique and I loved him. Intense.

  • That explains it, it's the special brew dance ;)

  • I deeply envy anyone that was luckily enough to this band. I would kill for that opportunity. Unfortunately I wasn't even born then.

  • @sugarkaneification you're in Australia, go see the tribute band with the original bass player. they're playing april next year.

I could get you a free ticket if you want.

  • this group was so tight, as a band

  • genius ,really

  • this man invented dancing , take note fags and sluts of today!

  • whats a karl beery special?

  • @jungle625 - Carlsberg Special.

    Google it.

  • his eyes were so fucking sad even when he singin you could see the sadness through his eyes.

I do love him. He was a genius.

  • @AllCatsAreGrey84 Lovely! Total agree.

  • this video needs subtitles!

  • He was off his head, there full of shit, don't slag his name off, he's dead, fuck it tell us all, we all ready know. Ask me his drugged up dance is cool and he loves the music, wish there was anyone around these days as good as them! Drugs loads of them, they make music better!!!!!

  • was that cows berg special, or carlsberg special?

  • @malleymyster take a wild fuckin guess!

  • He wasn't on drugs? He's on the greatest drug of all. Himself. but, I thought he was a Rx cowboy. so there is no truth to him taking epilepsy pills?

  • @ptd1965 i doubt the band mates consider his epilepsy medicine as drugs

  • I wish I danced like Ian Curtis!

  • Huh.

I guess Thom Yorke's dancing wasn't a very original idea.

  • @xRyan5 where did you see Thom dancing at. LOL i want to see that. i guess I can youtube search but if you have a link that would work too. But maybe it was in homage. or however the french spell it.

  • @ptd1965 Thom Yorke always dances lol, it's like a signature thing. Here's one of the many examples: watch?v=GAyIw5ueIsI

  • @xRyan5 very funny. yeah, it's different but not by much. Ian Curtis epileptic dance is the funniest! go watch this song to the Saturday Night Fever dance of John Travolta where they replace the orriginal song. The one where he is dancing on the lighted floor. "I love to watch tony dance"... hahaha

  • @xRyan5 here is is :) watch?v=58uHT0AQQp8&feature=related

  • everyone should know that ian danced like that before his epilepsy. which made it even stranger

  • La, il est complètement "stooone"....

  • strange how his illness made him dance/look like someone who is out of their face on ecstasy especially as it wasnt readily avaliable back then

  • why does he dance like that?

  • @KristenStewFREAK it's a mixture of his epilepsy attacks and a dance to control them!

  • Fanfriggintastic!

  • And everyone thinks Thom York is so original...

  • Comment removed

  • @YesterdaysBlur Are you fucking stupid, they started a new band after he died.

  • HAVE A LISTEN TO US, IF WE GET ENOUGH VIEWS WE WILL BE ON RADIO 1!

  • What is this from??? I'd like to watch the whole thing.

  • @Tom93M "Factory records from joy division to the happy mondays" Pretty sure thats the right title but its along them lines. It was on BBC4 about 3 years ago and was an amazing 2 hours viewing, hope you find it, If not message me and ill send you a copy.

  • @kyne96

I'm no street-drug expert, but I'm pretty sure crack would have been hard to come by in 1979?

But he was on some pretty heavy-duty prescriptions for his epilepsy...I know from experience they can make you drowsy. It also looks to me at times like he's having brief "absence" type seizures while performing, which would give his eyes that look. He put so much energy into what he did, just exhausting himself on-stage, which would have made seizures more likely.

  • @glebe3407

Ur a piece of shit looking for attention

    Fuck off

  • Sam Riley did a very well job in 'Control'

    He became totally Ian Curtis.

  • why did he go soo young man

  • @glebe3047 I think you fit the description of your own comment...

  • @glebe3047 i reckon most people on this earth would claw your fucking eyes out and burn you alive for ian to come back. your a fucking worthless cunt who will accomplish nothing in their lives. kill yourself now

  • @cwrees Oh you moronic pommie bastard. I can assure most people dont want to claw my eyes out. I function very well in society thanks. Its obvious from youre comment here you belong in hell with this mentally sick Ian bloke.

  • @glebe3047 It seems obvious that your the 'mentally sick' because your happy someone commited suicide. And did ian curtis not function well in society? He gave people music that was driven by his depression and this made millions of people around the world happier. Your going to die and noone will give a fucking shit because you have done shit all with yourself. You are absolutely the dumbest fuck i have ever seen on youtube...

  • you can see where thom yorke got his inspiration from.

  • @elo333333333 I was just thinking that. Also, the shakey voice is another live trait of both Ian and Thom's performances.

  • @elo333333333 now that you mention it, I can totally see that.

  • genius

  • The beat the music just takes over Ians body and soul !

  • what a way to feel the music o_o

  • why is affectionatepunch so lucky?

  • ian rest in peace you led the way, poems, your voice and stage presence r.i.p jay &cynthia....2-7-11..

  • I only wish I could be that into anything as Ian Curtis dancing onstage. He's just lost in the beat and the sound, completely a part of the song. That's what really impresses me about him, he seemed completely sincere about what he was saying and doing.

  • Click on my page. i have the only existing live footage of ian curtis doing an interview in 1979.

  • @glebe3047 suck your dick u heartless bitch

  • @papapupunana lol I am a guy fool. glad he is dead

  • @glebe3047 guys still can be bitches.. listen man, okey u do not like joy division, but wtf? i do not like rap but i am not at all glad that 2pac is dead, what did ian do bad to you?

  • @glebe3047 You are a horrible human being, he died at 23.. i wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy. Ian Curtis was (and is) a legend. Even if you dont like his music, being glad that he is dead is just fucked up.

  • Please, where can in to find Dvd's by joy division, i'd like to buy a show...

    tHX!

  • @glebe3047 comment disregarded cause you suck cocks :)

  • @glebe3047 Just stick to your Justin Bieber videos, moron. And you can't even spell 'ultimate' right. You fail epically.

  • @glebe3047 no your the fool. coz u r boring. and most likely will always be boring til the day u die.

    Bye dumbshit

  • He wasn't bipolar!! He had severe epilepsy.

  • Stephen Morris was their secret weapon.

  • He was lost in his music. He went to a place in his head that most of us have to take drugs to get there.

  • @stupidgenious1 Ian was bipolar.

  • @NinetiesYouth was he ?

  • @stupidgenious1 he had epilepsy...an attack on stage!!!

  • his eyes are smacked up

  • I remember watchin Joy Division in erics club in liverpool. The place was practically empty when they played" Transmission" I was standing right next to ian when he started his dance and i was gobsmacked! The galloping noise his feet made on the hollow stage was amazing.Great days...

  • @affectionatepunch Eric's was my playground back in the late 70's mate. A great club who put on the greatest acts around for next to no money to us teenage kids.

    Great days.

  • @affectionatepunch lucky you are ...........

  • @affectionatepunch I'm insanely jealous.

  • @affectionatepunch Oh! really, man??? Have you actually seen him?

  • @affectionatepunch My God, I envy you. I always wanted to see them live.

  • @affectionatepunch If the show you are referring to was August 11, 1979 then I'm happy to tell you that that show was audio taped. They started that set with Transmission & the last song was Ice Age. I have no idea if the concert is complete or not.

  • @hndsmepete Not the same gig i'm afraid...

  • @affectionatepunch You are so Lucky man! I just wish he would've kept going than to just cut his life so short...

  • @affectionatepunch you are absolutly blessed for seeing them live in liverpool. Most of the scousers nowdays doesnt even know who the fuck are Joy Division...

  • he was loosing himself in music

  • the members of the band seem much more sophisticated in real life than in the movie (in wich they believe in pure sex instead of love and that if somebody kicks your favourite car its just as bad as when somebody hits your girlfriend)

  • "Ian Curtis" is an anagram of "Air is Cunt". Think about it! It's like wicked deep.

  • What does he say at 0:22 ?

  • @Matchubes ee says : "Ian used to drink Carlsburg Special, and what's more .... warm Carlsburg Special...

  • Thats talent right there man. Shame he died so young. Rip Ian C.

  • Ian Curtis doesn't try to dance, dance tries to Ian Curtis...

  • @BiggDave18 Got it, chief. That's that!

  • @BiggDave18 get off his dick already

  • @BiggDave18 That is one of the fucking coolest comments i've ever read in my life....yes dance and life tries to Ian Curtis...

  • @BiggDave18 haha worst poetic attempt ever. but enjoyed

  • @quavercheese Well 28 people would disagree with, secondly it's not supposed to be poetic and thirdly you just wish you could have come up with a comment as witty as it.

  • @BiggDave18 Well said Dave you said it completely

  • @BiggDave18 loving that !!

  • @BiggDave18 hahahaaha BRILLIANT!

  • @garethbowler lol thanks bro.

  • @BiggDave18 win

  • @BiggDave18 Thank you for that.

  • @moonscore You're very welcome.

  • @BiggDave18 Well thankyou then.

  • @BiggDave18 hahahaha

  • @wowhelloashleigh I'll perceive that as being approval :P

  • @BiggDave18 It is.

  • Just saw Control and I cried my eyes out. I have epilepsy and at the end of the closing credits it says NSE - Seeking A Seizure Free Life For Everyone. RIP Ian Curtis his art is immortal and we will always see his 20 year old face.

  • @JayTristanYo ...peace to you....

  • JOY DIVISION IS ETERNAL. NEVER WILL THERE BE ANOTHER. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THEM. "HEART AND SOUL".

  • Love Ian Curtis!

  • They would have been so huge.

  • @poonhounds2 for a lot of ppl they (still)ARE huge!

  • Is this a clip from the Grant Gee doc?

  • "just beer and losing himself in the music...."

    :D

  • looks sincere for me.... Thank you.....

  • it looks like he's dancing for dear life

  • @Catch22ish

that made me laugh out loud. Thank you! :)

  • @ModernPlague hehe youre welcome

  • Just.....Incredible, this actually blew me away

  • I don't think there was any real rhyme or reason to his dancing during performances-he was just getting lost in the music. But with that said, I get the impression he would get so wrapped up in it at times that it just sapped him out. If you look at videos of his performances, the longer they went, the more and more wasted he would look. And this ultimately left him less able to cope with his epilepsy.

  • i lol'd

  • joy division + the smiths = jizz in my pants

  • @kateeee1x I agree...2 of my favourite bands from the 80's! Your user name seems to indicate you're a female...is that right? Just wondering, 'cause I've never heard a female use that expression...jizz in my pants! LOL!

  • @thelurker25 slight correction, justin bieber has no talent. she never went through puberty so her voice doesnt crack, it's easy for any female singer to say she can sing. Plus it's not music, it's just a fad that's gonna die out in a few months anyway.

  • It's unfortunate that so many extraordinary bands go unnoticed by the youth of today (i.e. Joy Division, New Order, Ultravox, Depeche Mode, The Cure, what have you...) and they ironically worship all of these horrid indie bands, many of whom directly ripped off the sounds of those older and obviously far superior bands.

  • @RockyBalboa7777 I'm 14, I notice and prefer that over todays shit called music.

  • @RockyBalboa7777 "indie" lol Non of those bands they listen to are "indie"

  • @RockyBalboa7777 Can you give an example of an indie band that's ripped off the sound of some older band? Because it all sounds fresh to me, not that good, but fresh and somewhat original from what I can tell.

  • hes having a proper rave up. looks like he is comming up on a extacy pill. RIP pour soul

  • I wish Ian Curtis and The Smiths could have done something together. It would have been incredible.

  • @ghman01 Morriessey and Ian. Two of my heros

  • You said it there such an influence on all of today's bands Ian Curtis legend

  • Sad ending to a wonderful story...

  • He's FUCKING REAL......... i honnestly cant think of anyone who is more themself on stage, maybe Jim Morrison i dunno.

    what do you think?

  • 1.23 i didnt know chuck norris was a member of joy division

  • @greyreview well chuck norris is everywhere :P

  • The band every band copies nowadays

  • @drbrandovalentine especially Editors!!

  • @drbrandovalentine true, i cant think of a band today that hasnt had some sort of influence from Joy Division

  • he always looked like he was wiped out on E's when he danced, lol fucking great though

  • @GoinDownToJunkieTown Tell the truth and shame the devil!

  • I remember when I lent one of my Joy Division albums to a friend and his response was "They're terrible, I like it."

  • Ian Curtis RIP May 1980

  • the dude poured his soul out constantly.. miss you ian

  • Anyone seen the film Control? After watching this clip, I can fully appreciate how great the acting was by the guy who played Ian in the film.

  • @tellytubies123 Exactly,this guy was awesome.

  • @tellytubies123 yeaahh we're watching it in media, its totally awesome! :D

  • @discoboxmonkey Awesome, Media Studies is a great subject. Ian was a bit of a shitbloke though, wasn't he? The way he treated his wife.

  • @tellytubies123 Yeah, i love it :D well i dunno how he really treated his wife, but in the film..yeahh, agreed

  • What is this clip from? Is it from a documentary?

  • best dance in the history of rock

  • r.i.p ian curtis

  • a legend legends are jealous ov
