  • STEP UP TIME

  • lol this was 8 mins, feel like it could go on forever

  • this is some reeeal hip hop the bottom line of it

  • pete rock´s never dislike... couldn´t be n won´t be ... pete rock love

  • STEP UP TIME.

  • OMFG

    SO GOOD!!!

  • Much props to Pete Rock for his time to perfecting the beats. My only complaint: why does he always have to either do the hook, rhyme, or adlib some part of the song. Nas had a problem with him doing the hook for 'world is yours' of illmatic. Nas' boy came up with the hook but Pete felt he should do it since he was doing the beat. CL smooth has very quietly alluded to this tendency.

Still the dude is a master on the drum machines...

  • cause hes fuckin pete rock, he can do whatever he wants, and he has a tight voice. plus emcees get all the credit when nobody would listen if it didnt have dope production

  • but as a producer do you have to BE A VOCAL part of every track/song you produce? DJ Premier gets a helluva lot of credit and you don't hear a word... his production speaks for itself.

same as Marley Marl, RZA, Large Professor, Easy Mo Bee, Dr. Dre, ShowBiz, Diamond D, Ali Shaheed(Tribe)...

  • very true but petes production speaks for itself as well. the ad libs and hooks he does are almost just part of the musical production like a vocal sample. i dont know the full story behind the nas incident but in general i dont see why an mc would have a problem with it.

pete may have done it because it seems like he always really wanted to mc as well but it never really panned out. hes spit a few verses here and there but it was never quite up to par with his legendary production. feel me?

  • also i hope ali shaheed doesnt need the (tribe) specification. gotta be in my top 5

  • @xperienceths too bad ali shaheed didnt produce those tribe albums qtip did. you may need to rethink your top 5

  • @illest22 J Dilla also produced some tribe beats. i dont really know who is credited for which beats but i would guess that much of it was a collaborative effort.

  • @xperienceths

I agree with you that really that is what it is: Pete wanted to be an MC at some point. he had his moments tho- 'The Creator'

  • @XTRABIG yeah for sure. i also really like his verse on fakin jax

  • @XTRABIG what is the hook, rhyme or adlib you mention?

  • @XTRABIG okay so Pete did the hook, and it became a classic, one of nas' best songs... whats the problem again?

  • @bppoupore

look up the discussion thread above.

  • i wish they was an real beat, step up vocals sound on Tupac " I Get around "

  • this just some of that real good ol skool shit i always appreciate!!

this sound just like a good Wine... the older the better

  • few views for such a step up beat

  • Somebody found the string sample for INI's "Step Up" it's "Too Late to Turn Back Now" by Jackie Mitto

  • Besides the Jackie Mitto & Little Feat sample do you know the sample throughout the whole song?

  • cool beat:d
