Much props to Pete Rock for his time to perfecting the beats. My only complaint: why does he always have to either do the hook, rhyme, or adlib some part of the song. Nas had a problem with him doing the hook for 'world is yours' of illmatic. Nas' boy came up with the hook but Pete felt he should do it since he was doing the beat. CL smooth has very quietly alluded to this tendency.
Still the dude is a master on the drum machines...
cause hes fuckin pete rock, he can do whatever he wants, and he has a tight voice. plus emcees get all the credit when nobody would listen if it didnt have dope production
but as a producer do you have to BE A VOCAL part of every track/song you produce? DJ Premier gets a helluva lot of credit and you don't hear a word... his production speaks for itself.
same as Marley Marl, RZA, Large Professor, Easy Mo Bee, Dr. Dre, ShowBiz, Diamond D, Ali Shaheed(Tribe)...
very true but petes production speaks for itself as well. the ad libs and hooks he does are almost just part of the musical production like a vocal sample. i dont know the full story behind the nas incident but in general i dont see why an mc would have a problem with it.
pete may have done it because it seems like he always really wanted to mc as well but it never really panned out. hes spit a few verses here and there but it was never quite up to par with his legendary production. feel me?
@illest22 J Dilla also produced some tribe beats. i dont really know who is credited for which beats but i would guess that much of it was a collaborative effort.
sick track from Pete Rock yo people check out my beats though and let me know what you think... music str8 from the heart and the soul i even got a beat tape up
the best album

@XTRABIG okay so Pete did the hook, and it became a classic, one of nas' best songs... whats the problem again?
