Worked shows at the Pier in NYC back in the 80's and saw them play this towards the end of the gig as I was walking over to the site. The moon glowing over the Hudson, stars out. This song floating thru the air.
Wonder how the did the vocals in the chorous... It's probably harddisk-recorded together with the bass...Also, Mike cannot match the original guitar solo that wasn't played by him. Still a great performance, and too bad Carrack has left the band.
@felsner1 They're probably doing backing vocals live and they put overdubs live or livedubs (I don't know how to call them) sampled from the studio multitrack. Mike was doing the guitar solo on the original studio version if I right remember.
@etnopollino I think everything you see there is indeed live, i.e. all instruments played and all vocals sung. But the chorus includes tracks from the studio record, which also goes for many of the instruments (incl. the multiple keyboards).
I'm quite sure that didn't play that solo in the studio, although I can say who did... I'll dig a little into this and get back...
@etnopollino Indeed. Notice also how many songs that are completely without a bass guitar... I'd nevery leave that to a hard disk recorder, since it's such a vital live instrument - kinda like the heart in the music (whereas the drums are the locomotive).
@felsner1 Mike did it the original solo on the album, and it's showed on the official video of Silent running...In the first tour of the band, Mike was still able to play the guitar solo exactly as the studio version....
@killex73 No, Alan Murphy did the solo. It's not hard to fake you're playing in a promotion video, and of course guest musicians aren't a part of them. Check the credits for the original album, by the way. As for Mike playing the solo live - sure he does. But it doesn't match Murphy's style. I 'm not talking qualifications and competences here, just style. Try and find other live versions of this, and you'll hear that Mike simply plays differently.
these guys were awesome!! paul carrack is a superb singer, its sad he's not in the band anymore. Its a totaly different line up these days, i think mike should have come up with a new name and not carried on as the mechanics. He tried the same thing with Genesis but it just didn't work. It all has a cheap Xfactor feel to it without the original singers. thanks for uploading the original legends we know and love!!!

Swear allegiance to the flag, whatever flag they offer
Never hint at what you really feel...
Teach the children quietly..for some day, sons and daughters
Will rise up and fight where we stood still.

@felsner1 "the chorus includes tracks from the studio record" Yes, we can hear it clearly in the entire concert on some songs.

@bgsfansmusic Yeah, completely anachronistic, even for the '90'ies...
