I remember popping this game in my new nintendo, seeing the title screen for this game, and hearing this music for the first time ever as a kid. It left me completely mesmerized.
Oh yes. My favorite Zelda game. I don't care what the haters say, this is the game I played when I was a little kid and I truly felt immersed in it. I loved it then and love it today.
I like Zelda II better then The Legend of Zelda. I was always a bigger fan of side scrollers. It was a very fun game, despite it being extremely difficult.
No, Wonderboy 2(a.k.a "Wonderboy in Monster Land") was a masterpeice of originality(and potentially influential on Zelda 2 itself, especially the platforming segements and the NPC characters).... Turning a platformer into a sidescrolling RPG was a great idea.
And the Genesis classics Revenge of Shinobi or Sonic the Hedgehog 2... ok they were all from Sega, but still, just because a game is a "first sequel" doesn't mean it had to be the "black sheep of the franchise".
@nOObsBePwnd Your too young to appreciate this game and i dont mean that nasty either its just the era of gaming back then was simplistic and this at the time was mindblowing
@dannysubaruman Im not complaining about the quality of the game in any way, i mean that it just wasnt zelda. It was a side scroller, and just lacked most of what zelda 1 had.
@nOObsBePwnd I Preferd this one than no.1 but i suppose thats just preference. But i can see your point on the way Zelda's are i personally think nothing will ever beat A link to The Past. Now That was incredible, Ocarina of time was also awesome. the latest Zelda games have not had any appeal to me
@dannysubaruman I agree, spirit tracks barely qualified as a real zelda game because the plot was weak, and the game was WAAAAY to easy. In my opinion, the top 3 zelda games are 1: Twilight princess, 2: A link to the past, 3: Majora's mask
@nOObsBePwnd It had much of what Zelda 1 had. Dungeons to complete, items to open new paths. The premise is exactly the same, just a different engine (with a pretty awesome RPG aspect). Nintendo tried to go a different route with Zelda 2. You cant say that this was not Zelda, because at the time, that had not been established. Obviously in the end they decided to go back to the top down view, but I'll always look back fondly on this game as the one Zelda where they tried something different.
I gotta say, what really made this game hard wasn't the platforming, it wasn't the general toughness of a particular enemy. It was the fucking low-high blocking system. So hard to master!!!!
ugh this game took me YEARS to beat! Finding the hidden town of old Kasuto was frigging impossible!! I am DAMN PROUD to say that I beat this game completely without ANY CHEATING! Back in the day when there was no internet to google cheats. Nintendo power magazine was about it and even then I didnt use it.
God what a HARD game! I love it, absolutely LOVE IT!
christ...how AWESOME was the chord progression on these old NES games?! I was just listening to the music from the mediocre T&C Surf Design and even THAT was catchy as hell!
There are talks that this direction for the Zelda Series was wrong, they might be right, I don't really immagine any future Zelda having been done in this style, but I really respect Nintendo for having taken the risk of exploring something new with this sequel. It took balls and it produced an excellent game, one of the best ever made in my opinion. Me and one of my friend get drunk and beat it at least once every year!
You're welcome! This is actually a response to the Japanese introduction, but I think the counterpart's link might have been lost during YouTube's site revamp.
In it's own right, this game kicks ass. People don't like it because it's so different from the predecessor's top-down perspective. It's also a lot harder than the already-hard prequel. But dislike for this game is often misplaced. This game rocks.
I completely agree. In fact, I recently played through the game during my Christmas break. It was fantastic, albeit has one of the most annoying final stages in video game history!
@Deppizzymo Actually, this game doesn't have such a bad rating, for example on GameFAQs it's 7.9 (though it could be rated higher IMO). Even the AVGN said "Really, that's a bad game? I thought it was pretty good!"
But of course the haters always scream the loudest...

Great game... The Final Two bosses were very tough along with the blue knights. I freaking hated the Blue Knights that threw sword blades at you.
