  • I listen to this every few hours.

  • @roccana

    Story of my life…

  • just like abba, boney m etc, their clothes look funny by today's std. great song.

  • I could say something clever… something funny… but all I can say right now is: AWH YEAHHHH…………

  • If you don't get up and dance to this your either dead or white - and that from a white boy in D town.

  • If you don't get up and dance to this your either dead or white - and that from a white boy in D town.

  • Always OUTSTANDING!!!!! Ah, those were the days!!!

  • That's a band who knows how to exude pure joy. Love those guys!!!

  • EW&F hit #13 in Billboard, 2-11-78. IMHO, should've peaked higher pop than that! God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • @DaveWollenberg Many EWF songs faced resistance from some stations reporting to the Hot 100, which is why they only had one #1 pop hit but practically all their singles went gold or platinum. But on the R&B chart, according to Joel Whitburn it was the #2 R&B hit of the entire 1970s beaten only by "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green!

  • One person who sucks at the internet....

  • Who can sit still during this song???? :D Love, love, love EWF!!!

  • Bass at 1.32 magic!!!

  • i keep listening to this over and over. no shame.

  • This was before my time but I have to say that this shit is JAMMING!!!

  • The Greatest Band Ever Assembled!! Just my humble opinion but no one else compares.

  • what happened to maurice white?

  • Unbelievably awesome. Just a flat-out fantastic song and record, for the whole world to enjoy.

  • Whenever I get Sad about the State of todays Music. I just Listen to Earth, Wind & Fire and I Feel so much Better.

  • Funk is life!

  • They always were ahead of their time. Truly one of the best bands ever and definitely my favorite.

  • Life Is Good after this JAM !

  • I've always considered this one of THE FUNKIEST songs ever!! Brilliant stuff!..

  • 1 dislike, omg!

  • This was the time when music had a real message for all!!!

  • I remember seeing EW&F in San Fran in the late 70's - it is still one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

These guys were amazing - love the messages in their lyrics.

  • Today's kids have some good tunes. But there's one thing this generation doesnt have....they dont have EARTH , WIND and FIRE, man. And that's the plain truth

  • The song is a powerful one. I love it even if the meaning of it causes me to pause. But this world and music today has no meaning of anything. It's great music like this song shames all the mess they make today.

  • I wish I could visit that pyramid!

  • Also diggin' Abu Simbel in the beginning and end of the video! I tell ya-Al McKay, Johnny Graham, and Verdine are KILLIN' their axes! DAYUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YES! Was only 4 when this came out, but I was diggin' on EWF back then-and STILL do to this very day. Verdine is playin' the $HIT out that bass!!! Can't mess with the band!!! COOL album covers, too!!!!!!!

  • Aint' that Andre 5000 on drums? :)

  • Now that's a groove for your azz, To a untrain ear all you hear is the bass, drum, & congos. But they have 13 musician in one band jamming they're ass off, that's what i call a real band. Hard to find these days.

  • Went to several of their concerts. Not only was it all this great music but there was an explosion of this incredible energy that was nothing like I had seen before or since. They seemed just as thrilled to be there as I was. I love these Guys. Maurice is a genius.

  • Billboard's #77 song of '78. With 7 wks. at #1 soul, you'd think it would've made the pop top 10, right? Wrong! Only made #13 pop. God bless!

  • listening to learn lip shakes on my trumpet and damn their horn section " Phenix Horns" are just amazing

  • what happened to being happy when you were doing your music? it seems like every musician now is depressed or pissed off in every single one of their songs. Its honestly starting to get pretty depressing...

  • @iluvme4never It's just how kids are nowadays. I'm 18, so I see it daily.

Shit sucks nowadays. 70s and 90s are the best. hehe

  • @dissident93 Yup, I'm 19 now. It still annoys me that so many people refuse to just be happy.

  • @iluvme4never Even if the 90's had that grunge, depressing stuff. (Which I'm a big fan of actually).

At least it didn't suck like today.

  • @dissident93 I don't have a problem with there being sad songs. I just wish that more groups today were capable of coming out with something cheerful (but not annoying...) for once.

  • @iluvme4never Exactly how I feel.

  • @iluvme4never yh man ppl just use to have a blast back then man it was the way of things back then! cheers m8 I myself just like to have a blast man even when i'm down or sick nothing gets me down philosophy man all the way bro! I guess now ppl a prolly too materialistic to just let go and have fun!

    z

  • @iluvme4never absolutely right

  • @iluvme4never

Art imitates life. The 70's kicked ass: Kool Aide, Atari, Go carts, skating rinks & crazy funky groups like EWF. Then Reagan appears (Bush41 was pres) & the U.S. gov. puts fucking people sideways into high gear - mergers, acquisitions, see you later family farmer, perpetual war, an ever more unaccountable FED, state sponsored coups, phony "war on drugs", globalism, false flag terror, destroyed bill of rights & a rigged financial system. If we can get free we'll see this again.

  • @iluvme4never world has fallen to shit, xbox and tv have taken over and the drugs are either different or seized by cops ;)

  • I grew up listening to this kind of music on the radio. This kind of music needs to come back!

  • @TheOldschoollover Yes.....It brings us all together in the vic.to..ry..

  • Wait 4 Daro Dimon he's bringing some EWF with him and in him. EWF put something in him that would eventually had to come out. EWF straight from above to drop a serious message on whoever wants it. I got mine!

  • they just look like they're having so much fun... that's what I miss about music.

  • The musical genius that is Maurice White & Company is miraculous. I am sooooo glad these guys came together to form one of the finest bands ever! The FINEST IMO!

  • EW&F was a unique band with unique music. Total musicianship that you hardly see anymore. Superb arrangements. Great brass & wind section. Percussion. Singing. You name it. All top-notch. Wish they were still at it with Maurice.

Who is the ding dong who is the single thumbs down vote? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some opinions are just wrong! ;)

  • Transcends time

  • i looooove earth wind and fire!!! they perform with so much energy and their music is phenomenal <3

  • Sublime !

  • It looks as though they were having fun on the video. Great song.

  • Love Maurice White and Philip Bailey. They are magical.

  • Amazing!!!

  • Great harmony, chemistry and precision. Nothing is greater than the group and Earth, Wind & Fire is one heaven of a Group! What an era to have experienced. The intended effect is still lasting after all these years.

  • KUNDALINI !!!

  • Back in the early '80s, Maurice was interviewed by Pablo Guzman on WLIB and offered this distillation: the song is about the Kundalini concept; that eventually good shall overcome evil.

  • Ohhh yeahhh! :-)

  • the costumes are absolutely awesome!!!!!!!

  • God, they're good. Best group of the seventies. And they call this stuff today music?

  • no wonder the US gave one of EWF's albums to Russia as a gift lol

  • "ignites my energy"!!

  • these guys weren't playing. this is real music. it's sad how music has died and been buried. someone need to take that 2010 noise off of the radio because they aren't saying shit in my book.

  • Funkiest band in 1960's

  • @BBshyJazzArtist Funkiest band EVER!

  • More cowbell!!

  • @Tybirious ok christopher walken but where is will ferell, lol!!!!!!!

  • Ah, music before it devolved into beat box bulls***. Earth Wind and Fire was extraordinary...saw them live in 1978.

  • Coincience ? This song and "Birdland" from Weather Report came out at the same time !

  • Off the album ( notice I said album!)All n All. Every cut on that album is tight! One of my all time favorites!

  • A FUKINMAZING

  • @soulmziklova I agree, but don't forget Kool & The Gang when they were still sporting wind instruments.

  • You cant pay money to see or hear music like this anymore !

  • I heard this song this morning & had it stuck in my head 4 da whole day!

  • @catolog96 haha me too.i heard it on steve harvey morning show this morning :)

  • @catolog96 hahah me too.i heard it on steve harvey morning show this morning.i've been singing it all day at work :)

  • the funkiest bass ever!!!

  • @warren4615 i learned this on bass, cant stop playing it!!!

  • Do you have the chords or tab?

  • @Zedetnik i just listened to alot of times and discovered how to play.

  • @warren4615 I know right!?!?! These guys have brought back my love for bass!

  • Funk to the core..

  • Beats me how a song can stay 7 weeks on top of the soul chart, and only make it to #13 pop. 'Fire' should've done better pop, IMHO. God bless!

  • Epic Groove...I was too young at the time, but I hear they ran things in the 70's. There was EWF and then everybody else.

  • @Jacobtheguitarfreak-Yes He Is My Man!!

  • young ones watch and learn from the masters off music bloody great my favorite band in the world and still the bass hay he just kick some asses o everyone is great.

  • How 'bout them horns!

  • Best. Band. EVER.

  • e la fine del mondo....

  • Fuckin' awesome!!

  • That's the original gang!!!! I love it!!

    Eternal, Wind & Fire!!!

    Funky Groove!!!

  • Maurice White is freakin awesome! EWF is freakin awesome! From the time I was a teenager I have held Verdine White in high esteem. You can tell by watching him this man is full of joy, peace and love, and has a heart of gold.

  • ohhhhhhhh i wanna dance

  • They are having way too much fun! That's when music was music. EWF Rules!!

  • real music

  • Shit, I was born when this song came out. July 4, 1977 was a good day!

  • WAY TOO FUNKY!!!

  • wooo!!!! it's killing me!!!!!!!!!

  • Maurice White is THE MAN

  • Totally

  • You know what? They really don't make music like this anymore. More people need to take cues from EW&F cos every time I listen to them, like with this video, I just smile really big :) . No other music makes me feel so joyful. Best EVER!!!!

  • You're absolutely right! And you used the key word: "joyful". The R&B of today certainly has plenty of good tunes, but it's mainly pretty shallow music. It might make me feel happy, but I don't feel *joyful* when I hear it.

I wish artists today also took cues from the *lyrics* of bands like EW&F and Stevie Wonder. Part of creating joy is telling an inspiring story.

  • youre right, i wish music execs would steer away from current trends and gravitate toward music like this

  • verdine white and al mckay killin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thats the earth wind and fire i missed!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song STILL thumps after all this time! W.O.W.! This was about 78 or 79...I WAS 3 YEARS OLD!!!

  • This song is just plain FUNKY!! Out of all the great songs recorded by EWF, this was my favorite. Soooooo FUNKAAAAY!!!!

  • Greatest Super Funk Stuff. The Roots...

  • ok, you make a point, although bands like EWF at the time were when people would feel the music and which sort of gave everyone a new feeling to it in that golden era when it came to 70s funk, this is a phenomenon that has sadly been lost with modern music, as most artists in a particular genre all sound the same, EWF are underrated, in the sense that people forget about their material prior to and following their "golden years" (1974-79) this time period was the most essential of their work.

  • EWF were one of the most underrated and intellectual bands in the 70s, my life in music is now complete..

  • I don't think they were as underrated (nor underappreciated for that matter) in 70's or into 80's. They had a very broad audience for an African-American band. (I'm white, not that should matter -- but I grew up in a town -- New Port Richey, FL that didn't have many blacks in it -- & that included during time I was in high school while EMF was most popular {1978 to 81}) & but surprisingly EMF had as much of a fan base at my high school as did many of the white bands that were just as popular.

  • First, who's EMF?? Second they are under appreciated now & somewhat then (the world should know Maurice White's name the same way we all know Michael Jackson's name - and that didn't happen). They didn't know what they had in 1974-80 w/ Earth, Wind & Fire - truly.

  • Of course they did not know Maurice White, Earth Wind and Fire because they were and still are on a higher consciousness

  • I hear ya.

  • @klwewf Maurice White never sold out like MJ either. He didnt change is nose or re-construct his face. MJ lost his roots and let outsiders ruin his life. May MJ rest in peace, but Maurice is still here and drug free.

  • @klwewf

They're the band that's never been overrated and they really don't want to go commercial and when they did

they knew the music industry had changed and it's they just gone downhill from that point on tried to chased

the hit album and never come back again.

They have more success and have more soul and spirit to when they're not fully commercial.

EWF still alive to this day but they learn their lesson stick behind the clouds and concentrate on music and

let it blow from inside out.

  • @brainysnaeha I'm sorry. But, I am truly having trouble understanding your comment. It seems as if there is a language barrier or something. Do you like this band, or not? I truly do not know what you're talking about.

  • @klwewf

No,there's no language barrier for me at all.

Just my grammar just doesn't make much sense.

    But i can speak fluently.

  • @klwewf Amen The Doctor Detroit sez Preach On Preach ! EWF FOREVER!

    The Doctor Detroit

  • OMG !!! I can die happy now....... these guys just take you to a place where you don't want to come back from !! Thanks for the music ....unequaled !!

  • I was going to post ...no need...you said it all.

  • Absolutely

  • ah, remember well the day this tune was released on the radio..........went to a buddies house with a few friends after school let out, lit up a big joint, and turned up the stereo real loud to Serpentine Fire. Was completely blown away by the percussion and horns on this song...and the good herb we were smokin........

  • This was the best indoor festival seating concert I ever saw. Before cordless mikes were the big thing. Before lip-sync. What a stage show, Maurice did this disappearing trick and was up high on the pyramid with a tiny hand keyboard 15 seconds later. 1979 Tour of the World. These guys were the stuff.

  • Thiis is a time when bands enjoyed themselves and really felt the music.

  • These musicians were the real life of the party, simply magnificent.

  • I bet you the Class of '99 knows who EW&F is.

  • definitely feel good music. real bands, real instruments, and artists truly enjoying what they are doing and singing. one, if not, the best musical bands of all time.

  • fantastico ....

  • Damn this is funky nothing better than real musicians playing REAL MUSIC.

  • Is the percussion line cowbells?? Or is it Kalimba?

  • sounds like kalimba to me...

    -J

  • It's the cowbell sounding in the background, the lead singer plays the kalimba and he doesn't appear to be using it in this song...

    -S

  • I went to high school in the 70's and lemme tell ya...I couldn't wait for the next EWF album to come out. I would buy TV Guide just to check Friday Night's "Midnight Special" to see if they would be on. No MTV in those days, heh heh...

God Bless Mo White and All.

  • I'm a big fan of EWF. My parents have most of their albums. This a feel good song.

  • This music sticks with you and never gets old.

  • I thought it was just me.

  • Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah, Oh-oh-oh Yeah....damn. THIS is music. Lovin' that Horn Section.

When I was a teenager, I thought they were saying terpentine fire......can you IMAGINE such a fire?

  • FUCKING AWESOME

  • I agree!
