HA HA HA...Why is Google+ something big and yet they killed Google Buzz? I liked Buzz more than G+, but ultimately they are both bad ideas. Buzz was too much geared for a niche group that wants to collaborate, but it worked when people used it. G+ is like the retarded brother of Facebook that has some neat ideas, but no one hangs out there. I cancelled my account because it was all public figures posting and no people that I know. FB has a community, G+ doesn't.
Good insight Kevin. Obviously I'm a bit behind the curve on watching this. I'd like to hear your insight on Buzz now that some time has certainly passed in regards to Buzz being out there. And Twitter launching an official badge...
If they really needed it that badly... why am I still not seeing "Buzz This" buttons on webpages to conveniently share links etc.? Or did I miss something?
google needs buzz out of fear for twitter? HAHA...not even close. You were on the right track tho. Google needs buzz for a couple reasons. 1 Data Mining. The more sources the better..and if they are receiving the source first hand they can sort it more accurately and use it for the other reason....advertising revenue! They provide services that people want and charge advertisers for it! With buzz they can mine more individual data and more accurately advertise to the masses.
Google has more money than you will ever see in your life. Dumbass. They don't need an entire project to disguise as something else just for more advertising revenue.
Where is the disguise. All google products are to make advertising revenue...that is what google is, a marketing firm with lots of capital for experimental marketing techniques. Because they have more money than I will see in my entire life you think that means they are done making it? The goal of all megacorps is to earn more...and they are good at it. There is no disguise here...or gmail is marketing disguised as an email service. There is no disguise at all..look at the ads to the right.
I see the logic, and on paper it works. But Twitter is runaway. Just as with Orkut, it's a less-popular niche alternative to Facebook. Buzz to me is a closed message board, and something I removed from my inbox as soon as I found out how. So did many others I know.
You make it sound as if "real time" is just something that happened out of thin air their is still a lot of work involved behind those links that people post on twitter its not like they wrote themselves also you need to follow up on your argument on google buzz you got pumped but cut your video short just when you were about to rant if that was your intention
Actually, you are not 100% right. You are when u say that Google needs that real time data. But, the main problem Google is facing today: their system does not scale or cannot scale to the size of the Web in 2015. They have serious problems with that. Thus, you are right, managing the info provided by twitter would allow them to enhance their crawler, and solve the problem.
@agfigueroaa In effect, they already have the network, and the already have much info on the emails. What they actually need is taking this to real time, that is to say, email is a very slow at spreading info. Twitter makes it much faster.
However, privacy will become an issue with Google. I do agree: boosting their crawler is the issue, the rest are usual Google lies.
Really Kevin? that's what buzz is? that's what you think? you think a company like Google needs a "break" on getting content from the internet? and they created a social network to make their work easier? you think Google is "scared" ? ( I get great ideas just before I go to sleep too.. but they seem to suck in the morning... ).. I'd rethink all of this if I was you ;).. food for thought ;)
Google needs to redo their buzz from an automatically on state - using all email addresses is a flawed thought from the very beginning - you click on buzz and bamm - all contacts are streamed by default - i cant tell you how huge a mistake that is - articles popping up all over regarding privacy issues - this can be remedied by a simple required setup step instead of auto-on. This is so bog a mistake i expect it to be rememdied very soon.
K Rose keeping it real talking to the minions on YouTube! So cool. And remember kids, the shocker is all hype, don't try it. Your girl will be all like, "what the eff are you doing!"
Kevin, I have historically been a fan, but I can't believe you are saying that Google is scared by Twitter. To be honest - as soon as I saw Buzz, I thought that with the right marketing it could be the Twitter killer. I don't see it as a tool generated through fear, but simply Google extending their reach even further - leveraging their user base even further. I would think that Twitter might want to do something quick before Buzz gets any momentum.
Buzz isn't just to crawl information faster... it's to built a verified network of users that can vote for content to change their algorithm from unverified "links" to verified "votes". Twitter does not have "verified" users (for most people). Facebook does... this is competition to Facebook, not Twitter.
Very interesting. I wasn't even aware of Buzz until yesterday when it showed up on my sidebar compete with 9 people I was "following".
My first impulse was that it was simply a frontal attack on Facebook. This video puts it in a more plausible perspective. Rather than being about overall horizontal market saturation it's could be at the process for grabbing something that gives them more sophisticated data mining capabilities. Good video.

Hey Google just has to accept that they are not going to rule the internet for ever.
Google is trying to rule everything. Google voice, Nexus one, android, they are going into voip because they bought gizmo, they now have a social network.
They wanted to make their own "next email" AKA Google wave.
Aren't you rich enough google?? Why not setup a food system in Africa or something!
I agree Kevin, it's all about innovation. If they left it any longer the probably would of been left behind by a new service or mash-up of current technologies. I've seen a lot of concerns regarding the privacy of buzz, but I guess that's par for the course when it comes to social networks etc
there needs to be BUZZ button on Youtube to buzz a video...that would be a HUGE push for the service. Also, the average person is a bit confused...should i buzz from within Maps, should i buzz from the voice search on the N1, should i buzz a photo from the gallery, or link to it in a buzz, or what? there seems like so many ways to buzz, and not just ONE way for the non-techie masses, that they will get confused. Twitter is simple, thats why it is successful. interesting technology tho.

They should merge Wave into buzz. Wave has a lot of cool features but they didn't integrate it into gmail so it won't take off.

It seems like google wave is in a "limited preview" so.. idk if they will be integrating it when it comes out fully but I suspect they will.
