I dont think this is like D2 runes for socketing, these looks like glyphs to me. A system that flopped in wow but in my opinion they would suit D3 nicely, because wow you are seen as a component of a machine but in diablo you are a more balanced fighter. (a little bit of a tank and dps rolled into one)

Well... D1 took place almost entirely underground. There were obvious reasons for it to be dark, although I did love it...
As for D3 art style. The mood varies from place to place and I can accept that. Color exists even in worlds chewed on by demons I guess. There are still some pretty dark and murky places.
The new "brighter" graphics aren't horrible. Especially in an instance such as in this video with a player playing alone. However, i've seen a video with 4 players fighting together and I can see that co-op games might get confusing. I couldn't really tell what was going on and my eyes hurt from watching all of the spells going off at once. This may not be the case if i'm actually playing, but just from watching that other video I can't imagine 8 players at once with these lighting effects.

i think blizzard have done a very good job with the graphics, yes it does look a lot more cartoony than the previous diablos but they still look very good and i bet you pretty much any pc can run the game so more people can enjoy the game.
@SpikyDane it's not the graphics in the previous game and it sure wasn't the few torture devices in some of the places, nor the darker colors that actually made it look freaking awesome. It was the music that gave the wicked atmosphere and they haven't yet gave us the background music. trust blizzard, they will do their thing and as soon as it comes out you will see :)
It will be interesting to see how Blizzard will tackle the biggest problem that comes with a game thats created for the mass streamline: Inflation
It won't take long before the markets are filled with people with little or nothing to do but play Diablo. The next level to that are bots, hacks and something that WoW community referred as "Gold harvesters".
I am afraid there is little Blizzard can do about this, and again the only way to enjoy the game will be playing it with pack of friends.
@Kulmataklaus have you forgotten the Stone of Jordan. something that kept diablo 2 classic in check as far as a global market all the way up until 2 years AFTER the expansion was released?? thats a hell of job, 5+ years controlled until the iths started appearing.

I completely agree. I was excited when I first heard about it, but once I started seeing videos and reading up on the game, my excitement started to dwindle. It kind of looks like it's going to be too much like wow. I would personally have been happy with a new expansion or two for D2.

Can't really judge something before it comes out, but.. d2 had a very great thing going in itself, would like to have seen it pushed or held onto, hell I'd be fine with it remaining 2d, theres some kind of purity in d2 along with the complexity of its items and abilities. I only hope d3 has those too, if the skills are more important in d3, at least let them be as complex as the items in d2 were, and please god deliver just as good as a continuity which I hope it will.

I totally agree, kraken636, the game mechanics are initially the same, like the way it plays, so it should still be worth playing especially to fans of the earlier titles. I believe that emo's are the only ones complaining about the dark and gothic part, not gamers, its almost like they use the "idea" of the game to further pose as an emo, and not actually play the game. In the end its a video game, hopefully a great one.

@DrMetropolis i've been playin diablo since diablo 1 and hellfire.. I played diablo 2 and lod and lost many days of my life to the game... Im a hardcore player.. If anyone played diablo 1 and then played diablo 2.. You would realize diablo 1 was darker than diablo 2.. Graphics were completely different... The change from diablo 2 to diablo 3 is not as large as it was from diablo 1 and diablo 2..... and diablo 2 was still a fucking sweet game. They will make the diablo community happy.

Listen people, I played the D3 demo at Blizzcon 09. I got all the way to the last area, Alcarnus, by myself. That was some skincrawling shit. Imagine a dusty desert city, with people in cages or tortured to death all around. Then you take a few steps forward down an empty street, and suddenly 30 knife-wielding maniacs teleport around you and charge. It was intense. Don't worry about the vibe.
Diablo 1 And 2 + LoD Where Made By Condor, Which Was Bought Out By Blizzard And Renamed To Blizzard North. Then Blizzard North Started Working On Diablo 3, But Got Disbanded And All Their Work Scrapped. Then Blizzard That Made Warcraft 1,2, WC2: BTP, WC3, TFT And WoW Started Making Diablo 3 From Scratch.

listen, the company has the same HQ location, and it is essentially the same company, but almost EVERYONE who worked on diablo 2 was part of blizzard north. they disbanded, went separate ways, and a new blizzard came, called blizzard entertainment. those are the guys who made World of warcraft..so no, diablo 2 wasnt made by blizzard entertainment
also, as far as many skills, multiple classes.. its the basis of any rpg, mmorpg, you cant say one game took from another game simply because they have "many skills and classes", thats dumb. and as far as the "items" those are put into WoW intentionally to reference the diablo genre.. hence. Wirts third leg. even starcraft referenced from diablo "there is no cow level" doesn't mean they are taking from the game. and for the last time diablo was NOT made by blizzard entertainment
I was with WoW since the beginning, i saw everything the expansions turned it into.

ya know, blizzard doesnt make bad games. it seems as though people diss WoW just because its the cool thing to do, but i have to confess, WoW is a great game. Extremely indepth, great game play, and a ton of fun.
now, do i play WoW?.....no. im not a fan. but i dont deny the fact that its a well made game. its just not for me.
if you are looking for D3 to be like D2, look somewhere else. im so stoked for D3 and have been since 01, and if you are a true diablo fan, d3 will consume you.

I completely agree. I was excited when I first heard about it, but once I started seeing videos and reading up on the game, my excitement started to dwindle. It kind of looks like it's going to be too much like wow. I would personally have been happy with a new expansion or two for D2.

Can't really judge something before it comes out, but.. d2 had a very great thing going in itself, would like to have seen it pushed or held onto, hell I'd be fine with it remaining 2d, theres some kind of purity in d2 along with the complexity of its items and abilities. I only hope d3 has those too, if the skills are more important in d3, at least let them be as complex as the items in d2 were, and please god deliver just as good as a continuity which I hope it will.

I totally agree, kraken636, the game mechanics are initially the same, like the way it plays, so it should still be worth playing especially to fans of the earlier titles. I believe that emo's are the only ones complaining about the dark and gothic part, not gamers, its almost like they use the "idea" of the game to further pose as an emo, and not actually play the game. In the end its a video game, hopefully a great one.

@DrMetropolis i've been playin diablo since diablo 1 and hellfire.. I played diablo 2 and lod and lost many days of my life to the game... Im a hardcore player.. If anyone played diablo 1 and then played diablo 2.. You would realize diablo 1 was darker than diablo 2.. Graphics were completely different... The change from diablo 2 to diablo 3 is not as large as it was from diablo 1 and diablo 2..... and diablo 2 was still a fucking sweet game. They will make the diablo community happy.

I would have loved blood and shadows (comment above) and the more I see about the game the less I think it's going to happen ... all I see is flashy colors and big explosions...the game will sell for sure, but I guess my money won't be going into it ...sadly
(I played WoW for about a day and found that I hated how it looked so I stopped playing)

@DrMetropolis the fact that D3 graphics resemble Warcraft graphics to me, makes Blizzard look awfully lazy. Isn't it pathetic coming from a company with so much money and resources? It is somewhat disappointing that they didn't try to make the art style a little more original.

@MMK86 ok retard, when they started designing diablo 3(b4 WoW's alpha/beta) they were using a new graphic engine(which ended up being the main source for the WoW graphics). Call d3 a wow looking rip off all you want, fact remains d3 was being worked on 1st and in fact the entire design team QUIT on blizzard. Before you start spouting nonsensical wisdom i suggest you look at your information.

It's not about the gamma you moron, it's about a mass produced. flat, line bolded cheap ass toon style blatantly copy pasted in many instance from WOW texture lybraries detracting from an atmosphere that better complimented the game's former direction toward gothic realism. You see they've just repackaged wow art, attacking the potion belt is a straw man it's about realism vs. a game that looks like D3 meets the Lion King.

Listen people, I played the D3 demo at Blizzcon 09. I got all the way to the last area, Alcarnus, by myself. That was some skincrawling shit. Imagine a dusty desert city, with people in cages or tortured to death all around. Then you take a few steps forward down an empty street, and suddenly 30 knife-wielding maniacs teleport around you and charge. It was intense. Don't worry about the vibe.

listen, the company has the same HQ location, and it is essentially the same company, but almost EVERYONE who worked on diablo 2 was part of blizzard north. they disbanded, went separate ways, and a new blizzard came, called blizzard entertainment. those are the guys who made World of warcraft..so no, diablo 2 wasnt made by blizzard entertainment

also, as far as many skills, multiple classes.. its the basis of any rpg, mmorpg, you cant say one game took from another game simply because they have "many skills and classes", thats dumb. and as far as the "items" those are put into WoW intentionally to reference the diablo genre.. hence. I was with WoW since the beginning, i saw everything the expansions turned it into.
Dont get me wrong, the expantions did all some really good stuff (achievements, new pet/mount system, new engineering Tinkering feature, ect.) but most of it is just taking away the true spirit of the warcraft world
