The front fenders were initially purchased from Fab-Tech, however, in researching the rear bed sides I found out who actually made them. I'm unsure whether they are still available because these were purchased 8-10 years ago.
Anyway, check with Hanneman Fiberglass. Very well made, but do require some finish work to make them look good.
hey, im building my own 88 ranger prerunner and i wanted to see if you could tell me where to find those fenders you have on the front of your ranger. i cant seem to find them and i need them for the front and back. thanks
Thanks, I sold the truck to my best friend who is having it painted. It's getting a killer custom paint job, and should be done soon. We're going to try to get it in a magazine. I went to the forum you suggested. I'll see about getting some stuff posted. Thanks for the post.
@dantheman1546 I don't recall asking for your opinion! You know, I looked around and I don't see your V8 Ranger. Oh I see, you're one of those guys who doesn't have anything, so to make yourself feel better, you surf around on Youtube criticizing other people's stuff. Nice!
@SSFTC The truck runs well but, have you ever tried to roast a set of 37's. It would take more than a semi radical 302. The purpose of this video was to compare it's original height with it's current height. It used to have music until WMG got a hold of it. If you saw any of my other videos, you'd know that I am more than capable of driving.
Thank you. It was a lot of fun to build. My friend just bought it from me. It's at the body shop right now. It's been built now for about 4 years and it's finally getting a paint job. I'll get some pictures up when it's done.
@jordtizzle Why do people feel the need to surf YouTube and criticize other people's stuff? There's an entire division in Desert Racing and in Off Road Racing devoted to 2 wheel drive trucks with trick suspension and lots of wheel travel. You are free to build your truck how ever you like, as am I.
Yes, to fit 37" tires on a Ranger requires larger wheel openings and a lot of lift. I'm fairly happy with the height. I would like the rear to be a little lower, but have not worked on this truck for a while. I have been focusing on the Jeep.
I actually raced a Ford Ranger on Pikes Peak with modified I-beam suspension in it. It worked great and was very predictable. The suspension on this particular Ranger works well. I am happy with how it drives and handles on the road. It has double shocks in the front and all urethane bushings. Thanks.
Why didn't you show the "Cobra V8"? Does it really have a V8 in it, how does the engine run with a cobra computer (flashed for 5 speed) running the AOD?
Yes, it does. You could hear it before they took away my sound. The flash for the transmission is irrelevant. The AOD is not computer controlled. It's only electronic feature is a speed sensor.
Well, I only have just over 1000 miles on it since I finished the build, however, the transmission is working well. I had it re-built by a local transmission shop and told him what I was doing with it. He made some mod's to the tranny based on his knowledge of the weak links inside. We added a smaller torque converter for a little more stall. The only thing I don't really like is the throttle valve.
yeah the 2.9 was a tough little V6 ive got a friend with one of the old 2.9 FI engines in his ranger, although my 2.3L 95 ranger could outrun it, then he changed the rear end to a Bronco set up, doesnt have much top end but it can launch pretty dam decent, i used to stay infront of him from the launch but now i have to catch and blow by him in 3rd lol, then got mean and built my motor for 8.5 compression and a T4 turbo lol, at redline in 5th gear the truck is supposed to run 150-160mph not sure
anybody know if and or how hard it would be to drop in a 300-6 into a 91 ranger?? any frame or body work?? i just want to swap out my 2.3 with the motor and tranny from an f150 that had the 300 with a manual tranny.....any info would be apreciated..thanx
I'll give you some basic information regarding your question. The 300 six cylinder is longer than a 302 V8. There are already clearance issues with the V8 that would be worse with the 300. With my V8 conversion, I had to move the radiator forward. You could gain back some room by mounting the engine further back. You will need to fabricate the motor mounts, and trans mount. It's possible that the stock exhaust manifold will work. It's not impossible, but will require custom fabrication.
yeah i figured there would be clearance issues and im not to worried about the rad and stuff. i plan on running an custom headers anyways with an exhaust turbo.. so i plan to do a bed mounted rad..its alot of work but im willing to do it...thanx for the reply buddy
hi man im looking to find a ford ranger of these body style rangers i was wondering if you could tell me were you found your cow hood and the fenders if they are the baja fenders can you also let me know what v8 swap you did did use one out of a mustang or out of a explore or a crate moter and did you use a plug and play wireing harnes?
I know what you mean. I have a 1994 with the 4.0 Liter with 33's on it, and it runs just fine. The 2.9 was a great engine for it's time, but not quite enough for 35's (at least without some serious gears) =)
My 88 is on a 6" Skyjacker lift that was sort of pieced together and 3" bodylift. But mine sags in the rear lol 35's are as big as I can get to fit without rubbing or trimming. But I'm thinkin about goin down to 33's (2.9L doesnt have enough power)
I just checked. It's a Fabtech lift, It may not be available still for this year Ranger. I think this lift was around $2,000. if you can get it. Fabtech makes some great stuff. Good luck.
Nice ride, I have the same color ranger ext. cab I built with a built 1970 429 big block for mud drags. I a'm planning to find a way to try to download some video of some drags i've been in. Again, nice ride................
Thank you for the comments. I would love to see pictures or video of your Ranger. I had a radical Ford Ranger with a 351 C in it. I used to race it up Pikes Peak. You can see some footage of it under my user name. Pikespeak67. Let me know if you get some footage uploaded. Best Regards.
It's an AOD out of a late eighties Ford. The AOD is sorta like a C4 with overdrive. Many street rodders use this tranny because it has the benefits of having overdrive, without all of the modern electronics. It's an easy install. B&M makes a shifter for it. I had to wire the speed sensor into the truck's computer, and there is a throttle valve on the transmission that must be connected to the throttle linkage (Lokar makes a universal throttle valve cable that you can use).
i found a 4.0 v6 out of a 95 115k miles for 120 bucks im going to swap it into an 87 ranger i dont know alot about trucks yet so i figure ill crawl before i walk.
Thanks for the comment. Yes, it's a little over the top, but that's what I had in mind when I built it. It's not a daily driver. And, yes it is street legal. If you want to see a Ranger that isn't street legal check out other pikespeak67 videos. Thanks.
i got half a hard on, thanks (94 explorer 6inch lift, locked 8.8,3" straightpipe 410s and 35's fender "touch up") those fiberglass fenders make it look sick, i love old rangers
The wheels on the Ranger are 17X8 Weld Stone Crushers, which, as I understand have been discontinued. As I recall, Weld Wheels closed and was sold to another wheel company, I believe it was American Racing. I think those wheels may be available again under the American Racing brand.
I have always thought the same thing every time I hear that song. That's partly why I used it. It sounds a lot like a Top Fuel Dragster. If you listen to the engine after the music fades, you can hear the cams, but not quite as radical. Thanks for the comment.

Nice stuff man, real nice rangers rule the road on and off baby! Got a 94 3L myself, it needs some work but it still tears up the dirt man! I got so much mud on her once you couldn't even tell it was grey, good times man.
Thank you for the comments. Ranger's definitely rule. If you like this one, there is other Ranger footage posted on YouTube as well. Type in Pikespeak67 in the search and check out the Pikes Peak footage. Make it a great day!
hah wow dude - I def. thought that the drums in the beginning was the exhaust. I was concerned. But nice truck! I'm lifting my 99 4x4 ranger this summer. are those all terrains?
I have always liked the beginning of that song because It sounds like a Top Fuel car. If you watched the video till the end, you can hear the truck running. It sounds a little like the song only much quieter. The tires are 37X12.50 X 17" BFG Mud Terrains on 17X8" Weld Stone Crusher wheels. I did the video next to a stock Ranger to show the difference.
The fenders were made by Hanneman Fiberglass. They also made the fiberglass bedsides.
