thanks! I'm still working on this tune - playing it with fingerpicks and trying to get the bass lines down. the guitar is a Sears Robuck model from the 60s - bought it from a friend for $50! The case I keep it in is worth more than the guitar!!!! But, it has great tone. Since this video, I've restrung it with Resonator Strings (.16 - .60?). It sounds even better! I use it to play Elmore James stuff too - sounds just like it! thanks!
Thanks! I've been working on keeping the bass going. I've always had trouble hearing what he's doing on the old recording. I'd love a National Tricone, but I'm a high school teacher (public) and don't have $2,000 - $4,000 to spare right now. Actually, since I made this video, I've strung this guitar with Resonator Strings (.16 - on the high E) and use fingerpicks. I'll re-record this when I have the time and see what you think. thanks for the constructive criticism and advice!
Beautiful intonation and feel with the slide playing - not an easy thing to do! Let's hear a version that not only keeps the accompaniment going during the slide lines, but is performed on a resonator guitar! You would sound fantastic on one of those!
Your playing is really cool. I've been learning slide for a little while. I've got some nice Robert Johnson and Son House tunes under my belt. Tampa Red is next up. I'll be using your video for help. Cheers!
@EnsoBlues I've listened to this song a million times and I cannot figure out exactly what he's doing with the bass. It sounds to me like he leaves it out sometimes and just plays on the treble strings. I'll record this again soon. Thanks!
@tinpanalley67 I think he does in a few spots. Listen to the orignial recording again and see what you think. I'm working on filling it up more than I had, but I think there are spots where he just slides on the treble strings too. I'll listen again and record this anew when I have some time.
@EnsoBlues Any advice on exactly how to do this? I think the key is playing the bass when it "feels right" I've been working on this since your post and will record it again ASAP. Thanks!

I like it but you got to keep your thumb thumping the bass line through it.

@djmoore20041 Yeah, you're wright! Red didn't do any kinds of dead-pickin'. He left the bass out.
