Are you kidding me...he's the best guy out their to fill Barry Finnerty's shoes...a post bebop rocker is what the Brecker Brothers band needs...hire me you fucks!
this Wayne is´ent busy with anything else that to get us folk on the the boat exploring new islands/galaxies - is´ent promoting himself - has´ent got the sicness of narscissism in him - he´s just a Mararadji telling me that I´m have found my way
long live Vince Loving (bassist in this video)... He was a friend, we played together many times. One of the funniest peeps you'd ever meet... He toursed and gigged with Special EFX in 86 and 87 too... Ride on, Vince. Krantz is amazing too, I know..
This also isn't his gig, so he was probably playing more stylistic on purpose. not to mention this is a rediculous solo anyways, although a little bit 80's out for me. Krantz is a beast!
I love how this shows he has killer chops, but that he chooses not to play anywhere near as fast these days, or as bluesy, and his playing is all the more interesting for it!
The use of blues licks don´t refer necessarily to "youngster" if you´re meaning about level dexterity, rather I think a lot of newbie guitar players, tend to try hopelessly of sound complex by indiscriminate use of outside stuff and ultra altered scales..they lose the roots, they lose one primal essence of jazz..The Blues.Pat Martino is able to reach high musical moments just by playing incredible melodic and bluesy riffs on many bars or even full choruses cycles.
THis is probably from my rip.. anyways, My best friend was the bass player on this video, he died in 1999. Vince Loving was the name. He's on a Special Efx album too. He toured with that band from 1986-87. Anyways, it's good to see Vince on Youtube. He was Baltimore's greatest unknown bass player.
Wayne Krantz kills on this live footage. Dave Kikoski is on keyboards (a monster player and personal friend). Too bad this video is cut short 'cuz the piano/synth solo is something to behold.
The trumpet at the end is so out of touch, I pissed myself laughing. I guess it's a hard act to follow.

That's Dave Kikoski on the keys. No wonder it's burning.

I totally disagree. Wayne adds immensely to any group he plays in. He is a serious musician, and a great listener to his mates. I dig his shit.

@jputterman26 He plays with Chris Potter on one of the greatest albums of all time, Underground. Amazing musician!

Wow that's sad. How'd he die?
Fishies125 5 years ago
That's a pretty personal question for a stranger, no?
TJM459 4 years ago
Not really. I asked because I was concerned. If it happened to me, I wouldn't mind it if people asked me. He was obviously a good bass player anyway.
Fishies125 4 years ago
Oh my goodness, this is insanely great! Please post more!

I got the whole gig on video and you're right-teh keyboard player is killer, but the size gets too big for youtube!
