  • phil gates and boss rules!!!

  • @Teutonic1250

Bugera v22 combo or a good condition used fender blues junior. The v22 has, in my opinion, tones equivalent and exceeding the BJ, in addition to tons of useful features. I.e. Two footswitchable channels, great footswitchable digi reverb (good for digital, i mean), power cut switch, buffered effects loop, 100% el84 tube powered and rectified, and it's $350 shipped, brand new. Oh yeah, and the footswitch is included. The BJ does have the reverb edge with real springs, but for me th

  • Phil gates Jhonny DeMarco JJ Jones and Gary lenear ....... what an entertaining bunch

  • What do all these Keeley and H20 mods do?

  • what low wattage tube amp would you guys reccomend for about 300 to 400 dollars?

  • SOLD!!!!

  • 5*!!! AMAZING!

  • Slide guitar hypnotizes me somehow o_O Just love it...

  • I wonder what amp he was using to make that BD-2 sound so smooth. Mine doesn't sound anything close to it.

  • they use roland JC-120 on all boss demos

  • u have a feeling dude!

  • i love turning up everything on the tremelo lol

  • the intro is seriously clapton-ish sounding

  • i like this man

  • I bought both these pedals, they're so sick

  • Wats the difference between a delay pedal and a tremolo pedal?

  • Delay repeats the sound that is played (can be multiple times). A tremolo just quickly goes back and forth between high and low volume, creating an oscillating effect. They're two very different effects.

  • Rite...thx mate.

  • dude i meant to press thumbs up, but accidentally pressed thumbs down :(

  • Very good guitar, please visit me.

  • im thinking about it now lol

also you forgot to metion that boss pedals are built like a friken tank!

  • He plays very well, if you buy the pedals you'll get as a half of that.

  • It's just a brief demo. The TR-2 can do slow blues, but it can do heaps of other music besides. The sqaure wave with chords gives a great "industrial" sound. It sounds better than that in real life because the sound on youtube isn't 100%.

  • Whatch his hand at 2:46-47,

it seems he is f*cking gat!

    ..

  • wat the fuck are you talking about meulentje?

  • I've got a variety of Boss pedals but if I had to keep just one it would be the BD2. It gives that fantastic vintage brown sound and it can be used as a booster or as an out and out overdrive. IMO it's a better OD pedal than the OD3, SD1, OS2 etc but everything's subjective of course.

  • that is true. i mean of course it is a subjective topic but in this case,i am in the same situation as you. if there was one pedal i would keep from boss it would be the bd2. and yes, most of the time i too use it as a booster for my ds 1. the thing sounds great even without the mod.

  • The BD-2 is great that's for sure. I just don't use mine anymore since I in general had better experience with Boss OD-1. That's my favorite OD :-)

  • The BD-2 sounds pretty sweet, i think i'm going to get it, not as a main drive( prefer ts 808 and T-rex MAB) but more as fun pedal

i honestly think this is Boss best pedal

should sound pretty sweet on my 2000$ amp :-)

  • nice price drop cunt.

  • Actually lolled, right there on the spot

  • ha, if I could play that good id not use any effects other then a TS-808 (booster) True story actually in Louisiana a guy showed up to a blue jam and beat the socks off all the guys with massive tube amps dozens of effects and he smoked them all with a solid state and no effects at all. people came up "Man, what amp and effects got you tone to the bone??" He was, "just an old squire and this solid state amp and my fingers."

  • So you prefer playing good with a bad sound than playing good with a good sound? You sound like a smart guy!

  • @EnTallrikPropaganda Old, but kind of a dick comment.

  • Can you please tell me which pick ups are you using in that video?

    cheers

  • i think he's using the bridge pickup

  • hahahahahahaaha

  • Um, you can clearly see he's using the neck.

  • Obvius. First, you must learn how to play. Then, use the pedals to improve the sound. So shut up, asshole!

  • miriyaa, I was talking to someone else who thought he was using the bridge pickup. He's using the neck pickup- you can see the selector switch. I can play, and don't swear at me please. The tremolo pedal is good BTW.

  • Sorry, it wasn't my intention.

  • this guy is my favorite demo"er"

  • nice blues tones..really want the tremolo, already have the blues pedal (: might steal that riff at 2:44. sounds great!

  • yay! im getting the boss tremolo tomorrow

  • I just got a Danelectro Fab overdrive for 20 bucks and i find it worked a little better than the BD-2 it replaced.Saves a few bucks.

  • I really don't like the FAB-pedals. I don't think they're worth their price, even though it's so low. Instead, I would have modded the Blues Driver with the keeleymod.

  • Amen on the keeley BD-2

  • Ever tried the Brent mason BD-2?(indyguitarist) AMAZING Mod on the BD-2, Search it on youtube. Theres a good demo of it.

  • Yea. A friend had it, it sounded great!

  • are you retarded??? you really thnik he's gonna write back??? ohh shit, what a world we live...

  • LOL! he must be new to youtube or possibly the internet

  • Actually have a look at the next page. He responded. Looks like the joke's on you. PhilG8S = Phil Gates (get it, the guy in the video). He just answered a question.

  • Of course I'll respond if I see a question...I don't mind.

    Phil Gates

  • umm i don't know it look like if he respond

  • dude he didd write back lol

  • Hi Phil Gates.

    Man, I love your sound.

I play a strat thought a fender blues deluxe.

    I also use a Boss bd 2.

could you send me the settings on your amp.

  • ton156,

Thanks for the compliments. On most if not all of the BOSS videos I use a JC-120 amp, and the settings are pretty neutral to not color the tone of the gear I'm demonstrating. I usually use the channel with the reverb & chorus, not that I use them in the videos, but I just usually use that side. So in this case all the eq knobs are at halfway. Hope this helps...

    Phil

  • Someone was asking what guitar that was, as there's no name on the headstock. It's a '71 Fender Strat with a Warmoth neck on it as the mapleneck that came on the guitar had worn and bad frets, but wanted it to stay stock.

  • can U tell which kind of fretboard lasts longer?

    Maple or Rosewood?

  • To be honest, I've had great luck with both. The rosewood to me seems to last longer. I've worn the laquer off of the maple of a few guitars, and love the worn in feel. But overall rosewood has lasted on my guitars over 20 years old. Now that's just me. I'm no luthier, or anything. Just my experience.

  • They both will last about the same amount of time, its just that Maple shows the wear alot easier and sooner b/c of the lighter coloration of the board, that's whey Fender started using Rosewood boards in '59 or so. I have an '83 SQ bullet with a maple neck, and the neck is flawless

  • With my modded tubescreamer, TS-9, I have a JRC4558D chip installed along with other changes, check out Monte Allums, theres real cool stuff for you guys to find out about improving some of your pedals :)

  • which pedal would be good to get a Jimmy Page-like sound? =S

help is necessary with this one. =)

  • I use a modded Ibanez tubescreamer :) thats very cool for classic rock :) I use an epiphone les paul custom with seymour duncan pickups! I get a very good Jimmy Page soundfrom that, a good tube amp is good to have as well :)as for the Blues Driver, BD-2, I modded that with a Monte Allum mod! man! it makes the stock pedal sound like crap!! my modded BD-2 has the BLUES vibe :)

  • thanks a lot for posting this video!!!

  • good video. I want this pedal.

  • BD-2 kicks ass! I got it as a gift:D

  • This pedal sounds amazing, even at higher gain settings. Much more transparent than the DS-1, and if you use a compressor after the BD-2, it's tone nirvana.

  • Nice demo

  • i dont like this guys tone...

  • is it just me or does the headstock on that guitar look very fake...like photoshop or something

  • its the graphics of the background collidin with the edge and the tuners, if you ask me.

  • i think that its a fender where they covered up the headstock with photoshop.could be anything. theres no tellin.

  • what if.. i put the Gain all the way up? ?

could this give me a Jimmy Page-ish sound? ? >=)

  • Peace! V

  • anyone else reckon it gives it a nice hendrix tone?

    nice review btw phil.

  • of corse, blues basicly means the sound around that era aaand hendrix played basicly blues next to psycadelic so yeh itl rock for that with its distortion high

  • bill gates ... :p

  • lol

  • lool

  • I like this guy. Even though his job is to promote these pedals, he has a nice down to earth attitude (and a very nice phrasing!)

  • They often use Roland Jazz Choruses for the demos, Boss being part of Roland, of couse.

  • Great sound! But what amp is he playing through?

  • it's a JC-120, Boss always does their demos through the JC-120 Jazz Chorus or the Cube...both solidstate amps lol
