to make my life less painful at the school but still have nightmares about turning my friends in to the savages who abused them for things that were menial by comparison like take food into the bedroom or for refuseing to do things that are by definition absolutly insanely painful, like swats, casita runs, hours of push up position even silence and imprisonment with the degradation of shitting in bucket
I was A 5th Level Off Points Student, and I spent no time in the QR But was forced to lead a group of work force students to build a prison cell for my other fellow students, i gave into the pressure of ecdr and did what i had to,
all that comes out of their mouths are lies at thsi school......50% said they liked it? another 40% said it helped them?? then why do our number grow on a daily basis on the yahoo forum for us survivors??? who agree it almost destroyed our lives? abuse is wrong adn cant be tolerated! close this abuse!! rely on other students?i wasnt even allowed to talk to anyone of the kids!! not even look at them!! i needed to learn to make friends, but i was isolated and abused..thanks new horizons!!
Gee, Theresa Thompson. . . Escuela Caribe made you a better mother . . . yet you had to send your son to the same school. Perhaps it was that dang ol' secular, Devil-driven world that overwhelmed your son --- or perhaps violence and abuse begets violence and abuse. . . multiplied by two since your husband is also an alumnus. Shame on you both.
well, i was there for 18 months from 06-07, and starting in o7, it really toned down. yes, there were problems of abuse, ect. i saw some of those. 18 year olds were lied to and told that they had to be 21 to legally leave.
still, the school helped me, and that's the side i try and focus on. if i was doing incredibly stupid things and getting close to death, then i think 18 months at this school did good things for me.
I'm trying to find my friend, as she was sent to summer camp in Canada last year, and I haven't seen her since. I called her father to ask if she was still there, and he said she was in the Dominican Republic. The only school I found in DR was this one, which is connected to another school in Canada. The reason her parents sent her was becasue they didn't want to be her parents.
They'd rather punish her for her alcoholic brother coming home drunk and beating the hell out of her than kick him out. I read somewhere that most of the kids there don't even have criminal records, which would mean most parents who send their kids there just don't know how to be parents. Anybody who see this needs to look into NHYM and similar organizations and speak out against the crimes they are commiting and the neglect of the parents sending their kids to them.
You are right. This video doesn't tell the half of the story, but at least it does tell some of the story. I am a survivor of this school as well. My life was severely altered from being sent there.
The "kids" that learned work values and claimed to be "saved" at Escuela Caribe are evidence of the lack of guidance and care parents failed to give these kids before they shipped them off. EC is an escape from parenting. These teens are suffering from years of poor parenting strategies, most parents ill advised from Christian fundamentalism. Escuela Caribe is abusive and should have been shut down years ago.
I'm so glad someone is doing an expose on this reform school. I have a friend whose nephew was sent to one of these schools and he's very screwed up now.

It should also be pointed out that this is a multi-million dollar non-profiting organization.
babsrules 3 years ago
It's not non-profit. It's a corporation- hence the name "NHYM, INCORPORATED."
I spent two years there. It sucks. Bad.

These companies are in it to make money. The ones speaking in favor of most likely got rewarded in some way.
