you know what I'm a 15 year old kid and I can't stand all the assholes on here saying that all she wants is shitty things. I think we are all so spoiled with 60" tv and ps3 and xboxes which I hate. I think it's great that she wants these things. I think the 1950s were the greatest thing ever. so all you spoiled brats out there screw you.
Actually, I love Family Guy and all, but I think it's rather sad that so many people can't enjoy it out of that context. Is it really that much of a mental effort? But then again, FG obviously speaks to the people who already are familiar with the source material, so it probably doesn't matter, the others were lost anyway ...
Am i the only one who finds this song really heartbreaking/ rather hilerious? How small, slightly rubbisg and simple her dreams are and how much she really wants such slightly crappy things.
Also the ending in the actual play where she sings it again make me laugh so much. Get it? "Somewhere thats green"? Eaten by a plant?
This song just kind of makes me sad... Because it just makes me think of how much she loves Seymour and how they don't end up together in the stage version of the musical... :'( The one reason I DON'T like Audrey II. I like him otherwise.
Why is it that Seymour and Audrey look like they were about to enjoy tv dinners, but the kids didn't have any food in front of them? I suppose they could have eaten first, but I thought they would have all eaten at the same time, even if they weren't all sitting by each other.
My older brother used to always watch this when I was a little kid (4-5 years old). Now I'm 16 and just remembered it and I'm going back to watch it. It's weird to kinda know the movie, but just now understand what's going on haha.
e-e I'm afraid of her voice........ it haunts me in my worst nightmares....... *goes to corner in fetal position saying "it's not real, it's not real, you're okay cause it's not real"* e-e
@jpmoneyify That all depends on what kind of "Killed" you mean.In a good way or bad way? Take in mind that Family Guy is good at everything they do or sing not saying this is a bad song.
I get the Betty Crocker Reference but what's with the 'Look like Dawn Marie' line? I guess it's an American thing but who is she & Why woyuld she want to look like her?
She's actually saying Donna Reed, but it sounds bad with the audio and her singing style. In case anyone doesn't know, Donna Reed was the star of It's A Wonderful Life alongside Jimmy Stuart and had a wholesome, 'family' style sitcom in the 50's called The Donna Reed Show.
how come she has such a lispish 'Showwy Mishter Mushnick' voice and such a pretty singing voice? My sister's funniest line: Mr Mushnick stole my sellotape.
Thumbs up if you heard Herbert sing this on Family Guy first, then you heard it from where it originally came from and then you found out that it was first from Little Shop of Horrors!!!!

well, the stage production came first so in my opinion, a reproduction is fair game, since this isn't the original. However, it would be hard to hold a candle the Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, and Levi Stubbs,
@patrickmorrisberry Yes, with Jack Nicholson, but I meant the staged musical production, since the previous comment was referring to a remake of the musical version of the movie. In a sense that makes it quite a difference. All technicality of course.
@panda374 "Somewhere That's Green" makes more sense in the original ending when (spoiler alert) she dies and gets fed to the plant so she can actually be "somewhere that's green."
This song made me glad they used the second ending instead of the original. The songs made me care about Seymour and Audrey and I would have been dissapointed if they weren't alive for their dream to come true. I just wish they had that ending in the stage version, then I would wanna go see it.
@bart11114 While I love this movie and don't mind its ending one bit, the play makes Seymour a lot more guilty of murder than the movie does, which makes it less sad when he and Audrey get eaten. Plus, they get to come back in the end as plant zombies/flowers! XD Bottom line: see the play. You'll like it.
I got the part of Audrey in my school! I heard today and I'm so thrilled. But I don't have the perfect singing voice. Could anyone suggest any helpful tips?
Congrats! <3 If I was to give any tips, I'd say learn your songs and sing them loud and proud and enjoy yourself! If you're enjoying it, even if you aren't perfect, the audience sees that and loves it anyway. (:

I can imagine Seymour, with his love of plants, getting his degree in Botany and having a good job and living a wonderful middle-class life with Audrey.
I watched this movie in my highschool music class today. I love this movie and I've seen it quite a few times but i was baffled by the amount of people who were like "hey this movie ripped off family guy!"
I was glad they all agreed with me on one thing though, Ellen Greene is a great singer.
@ExclusiveCheeseIdk, IDK, in the happy ending, Seymour takes responsibility for the evil he created by destroying it in the end, and considering there is a tiny Audrey ll plant in the last shot, he may still face repercussions. That's why I think both endings work in their own settings. The musical ending works on stage, and the movie ending works in the movie.
"Real chain link fence" ? there's something like fake chain link fence?
I love how the house is so clearly card-board cut out, it fits with the fantasy. And I suspect that Joss Whedon might have gottin some inspiration here for the "I'm the Missis" song in "Once More With Feeling". It's so saccharine sweet you don't know wether to laugh or cry.
@RabiaB The plastic, cardboard cutout that was 50's suburbia. You could interpret it both as a parody and the fact that Audrey wants what everybody wanted in the 50's
I take it as a parody. And I just love how they got the mix just perfect between it looking real enough and still like a magnified Barbie house fresh out of the box. All the optics of the movie are so glorious: the changing outfit of the three girl chours, the shabby way stuff in Skid Row looks, Audrey's outfits and of course Audrey II in all her evil carnivorous glory. I know the happy ending is traditionally bashed as being to easy but I think Audrey deserved it.
I like the happy ending, too. It's often accused of "rewarding" Seymour for killing people. But the sad ending punishes Audrey for... well, for what exactly?
I think Audrey's suburbia dream might look silly to people who always lived in nice, safe places. Just a few years with a bad janitor, horrible neighbours or useless landlords and suddenly it doesn't look so silly, it looks safe and peaceful.
@RabiaB I think Audrey's undeserved death is crucial to what the original ending conveyed. The story is saying that Seymour's corrption had the potential to hurt ANYONE including the innocent! But I have an understanding toward the new ending. The new ending basically conveyed that you have to take responsiblity for the conflict while it exist and you might just suceed and prevent chaos. Still the old ending conveys the message much clearer: atonement becomes furtile when the deeds are done
Yeah, I'm kinda glad they didn't use the original broadway ending here. It would've fit. In the broadway Seymore turns more and more evil with each killing. So he really deserves his end. But in the movie, he's nice and goofy.
To me, this movie is better than Wicked, Fame, bla bla bla! I love this, throught that's old! I'm doing this play in school and i sooooooo hope i get in!
Our school is putting on this play soon

@RabiaB I think Audrey's undeserved death is crucial to what the original ending conveyed. The story is saying that Seymour's corrption had the potential to hurt ANYONE including the innocent! But I have an understanding toward the new ending. The new ending basically conveyed that you have to take responsiblity for the conflict while it exist and you might just suceed and prevent chaos. Still the old ending conveys the message much clearer: atonement becomes furtile when the deeds are done

@AliaSparrow I totally love you for this comment. Finally, someone who understands the positive side to BOTH endings!

Neat how she comes across as ditzy and genuine.

Ellen Greene is amazing! She's pure Brookyn yet she has a sweet voice!

Wow it doesn't take much to make her happy, does it?
Probably looking through an Argos catalogue would be the high point of her day.

I hate her voice so much its so high and squeaky

I think that's kinda the point of the character. She is supposed to be very innocent and vulnerable.

You know what's demented? *Spoilers*
In the Broadway versions, the Seymoor dies at the hands of Audrey II. He certainly ended up "somewhere that's green.'

Yeah, I'm kinda glad they didn't use the original broadway ending here. It would've fit. In the broadway Seymore turns more and more evil with each killing. So he really deserves his end. But in the movie, he's nice and goofy.
