I just played Winnifred not too long ago! Probably my favorite part I've ever played. Please feel free to check out my channel to see a video of me singing this song! =)
@dentelTV2 do you have the rest of this version? My grandma had it on VHS, recorded from TV, which I haven't been able to find in years. Any more footage would be wonderful!
This is from the very first CBS TV adaptation of"Once Upon A Matress" with former Cleveland,Ohio and NYC kids tv host/performer:"Uncle Joe"Bova playing "Prince Dauntless"and Comic actor and singer:Jack Gilford as"King Seximus".
@HouseAddict8240 I got a major laugh out of everytime everyone else leans back from her every time she goes up for the belt on the "shy" or "try". It's hilarious. Semi-subtle visual humor. ;-)
I was the queen two years ago in this play when we did it at my middle school, and now i get to audition with this song to get into my high school's musical theater group :)
@NYCprincess7 Same here! My college is doing this in the spring! When I first listened to this soundtrack, I thought the songs were relatively simple, but now looking at the sheet music and tackling this song... it's proving to be an interesting and fun challenge! Hoorah for Freds!
Was this also on TV? I was 3 when this version was done. I vaguely rember the 72 version that I just saw on here. I think Bernadette Peters was in the seventies version and I think Ken Berry. I'm not sure. Is the whole thing available?
if anyone knows where I can get the full recording of this version with Carol I will be infinitely grateful!! We are opening in 2 weeks and I'd really love to see more of what Carol does for some more fabulous ideas!
Dear Spartakos, No! That is not character actor Norman Fell playing"Prince Dauntless The Drab"in the 1964 CBS TV version of "Once Upon A Matress!". That is former Cleveland,Ohio and NYC kids tv host/performer "Uncle Joe"Bova.
That was great. Thanks for posting it. I paid way too much for an unwatchable copy of a copy of a copy of Once Upon a Mattress on EBay. It's nice to be actually able to "see" it here!
yeah, she did this musical on broadway for a while. it was her big break. (paired with the garry moore show) she has also been in a lot of other plays.
such a talented lady. I grew up watching her show. It appears to me that she could have easily been a huge broadway star. she definitely had the pipes for it. did she ever appear on broadway? forgive me for my ignorance. I only know her from her famous weekly show.
This show was written specifically for Carol Burnett. It was said, that if she didn't play this part, that the show would not be completed.

I love where she sings, "Horribly shy". Wonderful voice control.
She's really a star. I bet she hated doing the Disney version though, they butchered the score. Kinda funny that she ended up being the queen.
