Could be for any reason under the sun; contractual obligations, a more appropriate composer for the mentality of the movie, varying people being on vacation causing the list of composers to shift around, there are a billion possible reasons they would've picked another composer they just happened to have already on the payroll as you helpfully pointed out.

@Flygontrainer remember i meant lyricist, not composer and newman was also the lyricist and that's what i hate. tim rice took over after ashman died of aids(poor guy.) and finished aladdin. rice continued on the lion king with elton john. alan menken and steven swartz did pocahontas and hunchback of notre dame. david zeppel was the lyricist for hercules and mulan. and the last really musical disney film. yes, phil collins only did tarzan, but remember this was their last musical for a long time.

It wasn't released because a black princess would not have gone over well in that time era. Tiana is actually my *favorite* princess. She and Belle. I think the reason it was disliked is because of all the Hannah Montana/High school musical bullshit that Disney has been vomiting out to us in recent years. The new generation didn't get to grow up on the Disney classics.

I think Disney needs to realize that this is where they shine. Good old fashioned 2D. Leave the computer animated stuff to Pixar/Disney...but don't use all their good stories to be ignored by the eye candy they think CGI brings. 2D is where it's at. <3
