  • On the money. Thanks.

  • Think I actually fell in love while watching this!!!! Great performance :)

  • Nice

  • You are great at this, such a nice song!! very interesting picking style..Love it

  • Awesome and unique rendition of an old American song. I really like the fingerpicking but it looks hard to do - but appropriate for this song. I loved it! Thanks for posting.

  • I adore this song. Why is it so addictive?

  • I adore this song. Why is it so potent?

  • im back to hear one of my favorite versions of this - what are you doing now ? married? BF? college? touring Europe?

  • I say well done! Attractive, haunting, beautifully sung, well complemented with guitar. Even a few lyrics I hadn't heard before and I've been obsessed with this song lately! I'm working on my own rendition in a blues setting. Definitely love what you did with this tune!

  • Great tune and you do it well. Sorry I didn’t pay too much attention to the song itself. I was preoccupied by your picking style. I have never seen any one pick open handed with their index finger before. Other than a back hand down stroke that really don’t count. I must say its pretty cool.

  • the best way to download this mp3 from youtube is to google mp3iffy.

  • kristibro...you could change "wife" to "guy" and it should work for you to sing it in the female version...Hope that helps.

  • Lovely. Nice finger picking, nice vocals. Loves the arrangement kristi.

  • I absolutely love your take on this great song! Beautiful, soul-full singing and killer original (I assume) lyrics...

  • love this song, you got a great jam here.

    make it your own girl!

  • Nicely done! :)

  • svida mi se

  • very well done!

  • there are some reasons why america should be saved, this is one of them

  • Right on.

  • This is lovely ...

    Thank you for sharing it

    :o)

  • bravo

  • Great rendition of this haunting song. My favorite version is by Amy Sarli of the Fiddle Puppets with beautiful banjo accompaniment from Mark Shatz.

  • Thanks- I'll check that out!

  • whats the name of this tune?

  • It could be "Cold Rain and Snow" instead of "Rain and Snow"- I'm not sure.

  • thanks i looked that up and it says the grateful dead but it isnt the same song. Then in your description thing it says "performed by the be good tanyas" i looked that up aswell and i dont know if the songs actually called that or what

i like your version though and im trying to look for a version closest to yours

  • look for a version by pentangle, an old british folk-rock band. it's quite good.

  • its called rain and snow

  • Very nice -- you are a fine singer. One thought though -- your deliver is very much a feminine one (that is it is not sex neutral singing style -- if you know what I mean) -- so given that I would change the words to "I had a husband who gave me trouble all my life" as your delivery is not masculine -- i.e., it does not seem like a man complaining about his wife. This is not a negative critique just an observation.

  • I don't agree with this. Jackaroe was never changed by the Grateful Dead to sound like a female even though it's from a women's perspective who is dressed a little boy. Many other songs are also not changed for this reason.

  • You are entitled to your opinion. But I think your example is not a good one. I heard the Dead perfom that song more than once and knew several of the GD band. I never met Garcia but I still correspond with some that worked with him. However, Jackaroe is a narrative about the relationship between a women and a man told using 3rd person pronouns -- so it could be told be either sex. Rain and Snow is a man's personal story (told 1st person). I don't see your case.

  • DocCalley,Perhaps you need to listen to it again. "There was a wealthy merchant" I see your waist is slender" "I know your waist is slender" -3 (count 'em) persons. I don't care who you know b/c you are wrong. I am a musicican myself who has worked with a lot of folks in the GD scene but that doesn't make me (or you) an expert. However, you are wrong here about Jackaroe and I don't think your opinion about his song amounts to much either.

  • DocCalley,

Excuse me for the typing error- "I know my waist is slender" for the last example of person.

  • Thanks Doc! I agree the two songs are the same. I stil think with you Mr pallet is totally wrong and does not understand the difference in first and third person pronouns. If you look up the Dead's lyrics you can obviously see its a narrative third person. Anyway everyone is giving an opinion so no big deal. Maybe Pallet is thinking about some other band?

  • hehe.. whether it's first or third person, not really the issue in my opinion. I value the way the lyrics sound with the music. And "husband" just sounds terrible compared to "wife" in this song. I must admit that I had considered the alternatives because it does feel quite unnatural as a woman for me to sing about my wife :)

Btw, I appreciate all of the discussion. I love stuff like this!

  • Smile. Whatever the lyrics you did a fine job with the tune!!

  • We got a local dead cover band here with a AWSOME women lead singer and she always changes lyrics. I personally think thats what its all about. Ever here the Rowans/Rice version. breathtaking.

  • @kristibro UNNATURAL!?!?! You're saying homosexuality is unnatural... wowza.

  • It begins as a narrative and then uses all 3 persons as I have explained in quoatation . But I am tired of this conversation so this will be all I write. I was referring to Jackaroe as performed by the Grateful Dead. Must point is just as krisibro said that husband would just sound terrible.

  • Cool song and excellent performance!!! I first heard this song from the Arkansas Shieks in the S.F. Bay area.
