Great song. Im down in Virginia with your cousin... great line. The stones always seemed to get one country type song in each of their early albums. Far Away Eyes is another good one.
This song is about a man who tries to dull the pain of his wedding day with alcohol. The song has a drunken sloppy feel to it. Along with Keith Richards, Dave Mason plays acoustic guitar on this track. Mason was a member of the group Traffic, which Jimmy Miller produced before working with The Stones. Mason also recorded with Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney & Wings, Blondie and Fleetwood Mac.
A girl makes me think there's a pain where there once was a heart. Can you please tear it out? and preserve it right here in his jar i'm pointing to on that shelf in the kitchen .
The 'Stones have a song for every experience in life. You can always count on the music to pull you through. What a great time the sixties and early seventies must have been. Musically no time period comes close to the talent that was out there. I am 42 years old.. I did not live the music, but certainly was fortunate enough to be around people who played great tunes as I was growing up. I thing the 'Stones, C.C.R., and the DOORS, and so forth are immaculate. Nothing even comes close them.
@germanpanther1 I was 3 in '71 and remember the sixties noise on the telly. It never ended with Altamont, really. The culture continued. Look at Zappa's 200 Motels from the year I'm talking about.
@germanpanther1 i strongly disagree, 100 percent the music of the 60's and 70's is amazing and nothing can be compared to it but if you search for underground music today there is a LOT of gold out there, you may have to dig long and hard but surely there is still EXCELLENT music being made today

@Kowarsch what about buttons? call me fool but i like that one better, i know i shouldn't, i know it makes no sense at all, but i just can't help it. Jesus christ: connection! that's my favourite song ever, i think.
@japhysmith Yes....of course....you`re right, too. Connection is such a great song.
And I think AFTERMATH was a great work, too. But....... Beggars Banquet, let it bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile I can listen to the hole albums.....and that is so great in our times (where everything is just a mouse-klick away...)
a bow legged sow...plied me with bourbon so sour...you will be wed in the hour...help me dear doctor im damaged...ring in my pocket but there was a note...im sorry to hurt you...i'm down in virginia with your cousin lou...[luke]
The Rolling Stones fell heavily into the style of country music on quite a few of their albums. This is not a bad thing upon 30 years of reflection because we or should I say I saw this band as a rock band, followed by some blues tunes and then crept in
the country which was a surprise to say the least....

The Stones did Country Music justice every time they decided to, but , then again Rock always did Country better than Country did Rock.
willbond 1 year ago
The early Stones were no slouches when it came to mastering genres that weren't strictly rock.
They did a few tongue-in-cheek spoofs on country music that were worthy of the Grand Ole Opry
Dear Doctor
Factory Girl
Country Honk
Dead Flowers
and the chorus to Mother's Little Helper ("Doctor, please, some more of these" Out side the door, she took four more.)
