@derrickgl indeed, i think that i too lack the intellectual fortitude to decipher such peculiar notions as the intentions of this piece of cinematography, the ideas it is meant to connote, or the ones presented herein. such a quandary of life and society it has left me with, perhaps one day i, along with the ample multitude who have displayed such a confidence with their "likings",shall grasp the true inspiration.I vow to, and therefore shall, henceforth devote my life to such accomplishments
@ganthonyvr Rhode Island School of Design. It's pretty much the best art school on the east coast... maybe more so. I don't know. It's damn credible though.
I hate short films like this. It's clear that they make them like this for the sake of making them like this. It holds absolutely zero meaning behind it, the director probably just thought "Oh if I make it really weird, people will think I'm original and creative, when in reality, it's just a random sequence of events I thought up in order to seem artistic."
This movie is very av.-gar. It scares me. I don't get, but i know what you're trying to do. You're trying to psych me out, aren't you?! Don't f*** with my mind MLagan! I'm serious! Really, stop it! I will eat your children. you think I won't, but I will.
still waiting for american psycho to pop in . of course naked with a chainsaw. I think he would make movies like that. when he is in a good mood. anyway, thumbs up.
I love the ending, where you are waiting for the tennis ball, and it doesn't come so you relax your arm and smile.... brilliant way to end it. You are genius!
I'm not sure whether I find this disturbing, intriguing, or just confusing. Perhaps all three. But all the same it's a work of art that carries some sort of meaning to the artist. And for being able to put it out there I respect him. They should really put this into the abstract room at the Tate Modern.
It's been a while since I disliked a film this much, but I must praise the effort to make something different. Congrats on the film and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.
I find thiss rather interesting, being an art student I wouldn't consider this to be art but this is in no way down to what you have created, it is just my personal opinion. I loved how one of your areas was on god (Religion), and many clips seemed to slightly relate to gravity (Science) particularly the tennis balls, not sure if you had this Idea in mind and if I'm reading to much into it, but anyway Well done :)
@paisleypoet66 - Are you joking? Anyone can paint a picture ... whether it has value is of opinion. Just as whether this video is art is an opinion. Is creating art not about creating an opinion?
The ability to come up with the ideas in this video and execute them so impressively is in my opinion the real triumph. This a great film.
I agree, apparently paisleypoet66's taste for "art" (if that what they want to call it) is very limited to painting, which id very basic and normal, they obviousely can;'t let they're brains go beyond little kid territory, this film was incredible and they were just waisting they're own time and gaining the creator a veiw, and by that, they were supporting them.
don't listen to them mrpitchf0rk, they're the one thet needs a life, they obviousely care about this film so much that they keep coming back and giving it more veiws when doing so.
This reminded me of English class in college when there was symbolism involved. I don't understand symbolism (it's not the way my mind is wired). Once I read the explanation, I can understand how the images relate to the point that's being made.
I don't understand how God cannot have the answers, though. Without God, life doesn't make any sense.
@SketchageX: who hates religion? the filmmaker? i can say there was no religious hate in my comment but rather the subjective interpretation that God did not have the solution sought. it is curious though why you feel that anti-religious comments need to be censored or repressed. If the message were strongly pro religion would that then be acceptable? wouldn't everyone have the right to express his/her opinion no matter how distasteful it is to you personally?
Post your Opinions. IMHO::The young man/YM stuck in the cycle of daily life (up and down tennis ball). The cycle is so routine he doesn't even have to look but the routine/tennis ball will continue to pound us til we are old/dead/sleeping. Life/world is coldly harsh in our walk to find God and He offers useless illusory comforts, the umbrella for protection, the drink for warmth. Note God's eyebrows ie Will you accept it? YM: Realizing the illusion he walks by ie Life is cold that's reality...
...Tango w/ car is the same daily cycle. note car leads the driver ie our routine drives us; tennis ball hits old man ie routine drives us. When the Moon stops the cycle; the music starts; we are enlightened; the sky views are illusions of movement it's al an illusory cycle; not really moving at all. At the end, the YM now at one with himself with no tennis ball to deal with (no illusory cycle; routine driving him) He smiles = he is free to walk away and live life enlightened.
The floating inexplicable carrot may be like the carrot we all toil for in our daily job. ie carrot on the stick. Our protagonist will take a bite of the carrot but then spits it out in rejection of the illusion (like he does with religion God) needing something more.
@TimeTravelinc: It was just a subjective interpretation that I had while watching the film. It's always interesting to hear differing viewpoints that people have watching the same thing.
The guy was probably experimenting with different effects like cloning himself, using stopmotion, and fuss with sound effects. Then it all suddenly came together to this.
lol this is what i call being TOO conceptual .. but i like it.. and if anyone didnt read the info here it is :
In order to reach spiritual enlightenment, one sweater-vested young man must face a dancing Oldsmobile, endure a boozy encounter with God on a frozen tundra, and brush his teeth, comb his hair, floss, Q-Tip, lather and shave simultaneously. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Slamdance Film Festival.
Its too rediculous to actually decipher, if there was no info given in the sidebar then I'd have no clue, its like he put a bunch of random clips together and then just made up a meaning.
