Agreed---except you did miss one very important aspect, that was before the new covenant was truly set forth, for Christ was not dead yet. The Scriptures teach that one must repent and be baptized for the remission of sins---I'm not teaching it...just repeating it, you go read it. Acts 2:38

What was right was taking him down. In this case there was a "wrong" which justified a "right" and necessary action.

So, let's use the very same merriam webster you used, and look up "Faith": 2-b (1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof. 3: something that is believed especially with strong conviction.
There is no way to prove that God doesn't exist. That leaves you with your "Belief" or "Faith" He doesn't exist.
