is a plastic tub ok to use as a breeding tank? also, i have a male yellow finned dragon plakat and a slightly larger female velvet plakat and i am getting some more females soon, i am aiming to get a whole lot of dragon plakat fry, and i will start line breeding
@johnnypiperdapplekob Sure but i would try to find the clearest plastic so you can see in the sides to see your fish. you still need a filter, heater, light, etc. good luck!
@FishFrenzy22 yeah, i've got all that :) i'm just doing a whole heap of stuff with brine shrimp so i know the basics, and the tub i have is pretty hard to see through,so i'll have to get another,
@TheBettalover123 One, but the male may kill her or she may die before you get her into spawning condition so it's good to have a backup pair if your 1st pair doesn't work out. females can also kill males too so you gotta be careful
@TheBettalover123 You have to either hatch baby brine shrimp for them to eat or if you dont have the resources you can try buying frozen BBS and feeding it to them in small amounts. you cant feed them bloodworms until they get to a decent size or they will choke on them, i'd say at least 1/2inch+
@superlamaface I bought it at petsmart i think. it didn't fit right and ended up sucking up 90% of my fry. but i poured out the filter and most of them were still alive so instead of a sponge try covering it with pantyhoes and a rubberband. much safer
@fiestyCat86 lol i used to have a lot a while back. and now i started getting bettas again! haha i have 1 male 2 females at the moment and they are going to be bred :)
wow I think you have the same problem I do...aka five bettas is NEVER ENOUGH. lolz, I have seven (shame) but i love them all to DEATH!! We're going on a year now and I've had some casulties, but it seems like everyone is doing good now!! I like your set up way more than my own, but hey insperation right?
Yeah i stopped breeding bettas for now. all my fry died and my pair got sick and died. i dont really have time for breeding right now, but i hope to get back into it eventually. I'm down to one 20gal tank.
Nice setup. I too have to breed and raise bettas in my bedroom. Getting a 20 gallon next week for my new HMPK Blue Dragon fry but for now I split my spawns between two 10 gallon tanks.
The breeding tank should have only six inches of water. That's what i find works for me.

@Cybersix1980 it depends. from 5-50+ fry can survive, it all depends on how you care for them, etc
