@deidira No; Hiragana and Katakana are simple enough to pick up, though memorising is another matter. HOWEVER, most written Japanese relies on Kanji, the characters, and many do not have a direct romaji translation - the basis on which hiragana and katakana works. For example, 'enshroud' is written with the kanji for 'tomb' - it has connatations of being cloaked in death you see? When spoken it has this effect. The direct romaji "tsutsumikakusu" loses this, and half of its meaning.
