  • You might be interested to know that Seattle International Films did some Doctor Who fan videos (with a female Doctor) back in the 80's. Worth checking out their story Wrath of Eukor which is on youtube.

  • What is film festival i know what it is but meaning to it.

  • Does Siff play short films from film makers

  • I seriously need to live in a place more interesting than brookfield connecticut. another reason to be excited for college... 2 yrs to go! :)

  • Have you heard of Our Grass Is Always Greener?

  • Sounds interesting.... I'm gonna have to go and check it out!!

  • Hello i am from seattle and making a show. So do u still like seattle.

  • I wish there were more widely-publicized theatre festivals (as in plays...) I know of a couple in seattle, but i've always heard about them after the fact (well, i heard about one before hand... but i couldn't get there).

I have a question. What's your opinion of Live theatre vs. Film? You seem very interested in film, and i was just wondering about your opinions on different forms of storytelling.

  • @owlssayhooot Help me out on Rosianna's channel.

  • has anyone told you that you look a lot like alicia witt? I was watching the movie 'backyard wedding' and it was bugging me out how much she looks like you

  • Kayley are you going to bumbershoot? :D

  • Comment removed

  • @Georgiamilne1 Well, that's because Harry Potter is no in the Seattle International Film Festival. Which is what this video was about.

  • @owlssayhooot

oops sorry, my bad never really heard of a film festival just thought you were talking about your favourite films and stuff. sorry!

  • cannot wait for a film festival in Sydney... I am going to Sydney's writer festival, hoping i can find some good writers!

  • I'm not into film festivals, but you have an amazing nose. ^.^

  • I haven't been to a film festival in five years although my University has one at least every quarter and then there are several in the city every year. It's quite upsetting that I have missed every single one of them. I have even missed movie premieres for movies that I worked on! I really need to force myself to go to these festivals.

  • I want to see How to Die in Oregon soooo badly

  • STILL GRETA

  • There's a film festival here in Edmonton and I'm pretty sure it shows movies that no one will ever hear of again. It kinda makes me wish I lived somewhere that held a film festival that actually shows decent movies.

  • FOR FREE?!

  • aaaaah I have a show for most of that :( You should come see it... It's titanic the musical :D

  • @almightyshortme Titanic is the only movie I've ever seen in a theater! I was ten, and I'm 19 now! It's been that long!

  • @Coffeeisnecessary

I'm not really a fan of seeing movies in theaters... I dunno why.

But this is actually titanic the musical, which is completely different from the movie. It's fun... except, y'know... when the ship sinks... SPOILERS!

  • I attend the Cleveland International Film Festival Film Festival (CIFF) every year along with the Athens Ohio International Film and Video Festival and the BANFF Mountain Film Festival. This year you should check our Win/Win and Kaboom. They are awesome films.

  • I hope to go to one some day. But I do have a bit of a problem with paying attention or not getting bored. No matter how good the film is, after 2 hours of watching movies, I will get bored. Haha

  • I am also attending the Closing Night Gala, just to see Life in a Day. :D

  • I am going too, and I saw Louder than a Bomb at the siff theater! It is freaking amazing.

  • Ahhh Another Earth! I can't wait to see that!!! :D

  • This summer, I'm excited to see HP and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Thor, Monte Carlo, and Jig: The Irish Dancing Documentary. I'm especially excited for HP and Jig.

  • Batman! Harry Potter! The Hobbit! rwr

  • @20thRule I don't think that not being able to attend things in other countries is necessarily a missed opportunity, haha. A missed opportunity is something that you could have done, but then somethings got in the way, I think.

  • Harry Potter. Nuff said.

  • Hiiii :)

  • Is there a difference between Movie and Film?

  • @LovisaTheLion To me there is. I think of big blockbusters are movies, whereas films are more independent/creative. I don't know. I also just prefer the word.

  • @owlssayhooot Oh ok! I'm from sweden and things like this confuse me :P I had an english teacher who who said that Movie is the word for anything that isn't a documentary :P The swedish word is Film :)

  • Looking forward to Red Riding Hood and Water for Elephants :)

  • Wooop! I'm excited to see your reviews! :D

  • It's because you actually British pretending to be an American. ;)

  • @wmg2289 Film isn't a British word and movie isn't an American one...I'm not pretending that at all or I'd probably try a lot harder, lol.

  • @owlssayhooot Alright, next video, you need to be British then! haha

  • Beautiful hair! I'm planning to dye it about the same colour.

  • I'm probably going to Leeds international film festival this year. I lived in Leeds all my life and studied film for A Levels and at uni but never went to a single screening at the festival because I always forget.

  • Aaah The Trip was AWESOME. It was on as a mini series a few months ago here in Britain and it was SO funny. Have fun, I'm extremely jealous.

  • What about HUMP! 2011?

  • I get to see an advanced screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 18 hours!

And I love how the trailer for it is the featured video on the right column while I watch this video :D

PS I had to watch this twice so I could pay attention to what you were saying instead of staring at that piece of hair. :P

  • Well, being in Grand Rapids, MI we don't have many films festivals. But I do plan on attending the Lakeshore Film Festival this summer, and I have no idea what films will be showing or anything like that, I think it would be an endeavor on my part to make an appearance, let alone to try plan that much into it. in any case, I hope to make it a highlight of my summer!

  • Melbourne (Australia) international film festival is coming up soon!... just putting it out there...

  • So excited for Another Earth. I think it'll either be amazingly amazing, or terrible. XD

  • @k4386 I've heard it's really, really good.

  • I live in Toronto so TIFF is always a huge deal to me. Also I totally get the use of the word "film" over "movie." A movie is The Lizzie McGuire movie. A film is Pulp Fiction. There is a definite difference that a lot of people are too ignorant to realize. Have fun!! :)

  • I have tried to watch this video like five times, and I still keep concentrating on that hair. I'm sorry.

  • Have you by chance seen John Carney's 'Once'? The main characters in it are from a two-person band called The Swell Season, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. If you haven't seen it I strongly suggest you check it out :) (I may or may not have cried six times during the film, and that's saying something for me.)

  • @howaboutstefanie That's a brilliant film, really love it!

  • @howaboutstefanie Yeah, I love it.

  • As a film student, I enjoy these videos! I love film festival talks. :) I just had a festival come in my city, so I look forward to learning about this one. And International films are so beautiful. (except I usually only play attention to French ones since I speak French... I recommend The Class... if you haven't seen it already). Have fun at the festival! Oh and I look forward to seeing the Art of Getting By and HP7 (of course!).

  • That series is awesome :) I like that recommending a song by blur helped form the title of it.

  • You had a rogue hair at the beginning of the video...it's all I concentrated on. Had to go back. haha

  • PIRATES OF THE CARRABIAN

  • I'm really excited to see several films this summer. So far, my list is: Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Monte Carlo, Crazy Stupid Love, The Hangover 2 (as ashamed as I am to say that), and Midnight In Paris (which better be fantastic because I love Woody Allen's films). And I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting about, which is why I desperately need to find a job so I can see all of these.

  • Can't wait for HP 7 <33

  • The only film festival I've been to was in 2008, because they were screening We Are Wizards. That festival was canceled the next year. I should make it a point to find another one, because I tend to enjoy indie-type movies.

  • i wish i were in seattle... i want a free book thing...

  • TIFF in September! I was actually planning to volunteer but I had a lot of things going on when the deadline came so I guess I'll just watch at least one film.

  • I honestly didn't even notice that one misplaced hair until you mentioned it :P. But now it's all I can look at...funny how that works lol

  • I mailed you a present, to your P.O. Box. I hope you like it. <3

  • your hair is gorgeous in this video. What are you talking about?

  • I'm going to the drive-in to see the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean this Friday. Does that count. (:

  • Hahaha I'm so glad that you cleared up that you went to a different kind of film festival earlier this year because I thought, "Has it been a YEAR since that video?!" Speaking of films and you, have you seen the documentary "The September Issue"? I'm sure you have. Today you Tumbled a picture of Anna Wintour. I thought it was an excellent documentary; I don't feel embarrassed about watching a film about Vogue magazine because it's related to journalism hahaha.

  • the word films just rolls off the tongue much better than movies. I think its mostly due to the single syllable that films has.

  • Is that a Disneyland map on your wall? :)

  • I would love to see you have a movie reviews channel or you posting movie reviews on this channel. I'm the biggest movie nerd ever. And I would just really love to see someone else who is obsessed with film discuss.

  • I need to go to sxsw, the film festival here in austin texas, because i have not been able to these past years! And that video diary idea sounds awesome, i shall try it next year.

  • Ahh, I went to my local film festival a couple of months ago. Even though 97% of the people there were over the age of 60, it was still a lot of fun.

  • I'm going to be pretty much living at Edinburgh International Film Festival come June. Glad to hear you're getting excited for a local fest - they're a lot of fun and those of us who work at them are always pleased to see find new converts. Looking forward to your reviews.

  • I'm going to Wake Forest in Winston-Salem next year, and I have heard they have some pretty bad-ass film festivals. I've never been to one before, but as a great lover of films, I now realize I must check them out. Thanks, Kayley!

  • Wish I could go. I really want to see Third star with Benedict Cumberbatch.

  • @20thRule Film festivals are not American. They happen all over the world.

  • I saw Norman and Cameraman in Chicago at the festival last October. They were both really good. Norman was one of the best, funniest, and smartest movies I saw there.

  • is film another word for movie???

  • I mean, Harry Potter...but that's like saying you are going to breathe this summer. I mean, you need to do it to live! :)

  • Me and some friends are planning on going to Empire BigScreen in August at the O2 Arena here in the UK. It's not exactly a film festival in the traditional sense because it's also a film convention of sorts as well, but it'll be my first time going to an event like this and I'm really excited!! :D

  • ever been to the toronto international fl festival? cuz i havent!

  • My friend just told me she had yesterday dinner with a screen-writer "just dropping by on his way back from Cannes" who is planning on casting Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry in his new film.

    Life isn't fair.

  • Pirates. duh.

  • Have you heard of any festivals in the Chicago area? I've been meaning to check around but things are busy and having an excuse for you to comment back to me would be fantastic.

    ^-^ Thank you!

  • @JackSkellingFrost I'm sure googling "Chicago film festival" would do you wonders xD

  • @owlssayhooot I was sure it would! It's just more fun having super duper awesome people tell me that.

  • @JackSkellingFrost It's a while away, but in October the Musicbox theater holds a 24-hour horror movie festival. They start off with a silent film, complete with live organ. They show old stuff, new stuff, interview horror movie stars and directors. It's a good time if you're into that sort of thing.

  • I've got the Edinburgh film festival, but I don't have much friends who like films that aren't big summer movies.

  • @SR120 I'm going to all of these films alone, haha. My friends aren't too into it, either. You can't let that stop you from doing amazing things :)

  • @owlssayhooot The brochure is out tomorrow so I'm going to check that out.

  • We have the Baltimore Film Fest, which is the best thing ever at the Charles, and all the MICA students talk about it all day

  • THE ART OF GETTING BY

SO EXCITED TO SEE THAT MOVIE

  • Yay, movies!

I saw Camera Man on Film 4 a couple of weeks back, and it is excellent. I highly recommend it. An excellent look at the art of cinematography.

As far as film festivals go, I've been meaning to catch the Cork Film Festival this coming November. There was apparently some really interesting stuff there last year, and as a film student I kind of feel obliged to check it out :) Which reminds me, I should probably finish that script... *stares at blank page for another 6 hours*

  • I can see that you are as passionate about films as I am about concerts....

which is what I usually spend my time on attending and reviewing.

I have a list much like yours of bands and fesivals I wish to go see!

    <3

  • Harry potter :D

  • Have you seen Bill Cunningham New York? It's a new documentary about this famous fashion photographer for the New York Times. Really good; I saw it at the artsy theater in D.C. May not be playing in Seattle but it seems right up your alley.

  • I saw the trailer for Norman and it looks so amazing. I hope they release it on DvD eventually, or something.

  • Your hair is beautiful. I'm not even lying or comforting you.

  • Harry Potter 7 part 2 !!

  • I'm looking forward to PotC 4 and, of course, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Heck yeah!

There's a few others I want to see, but I'll probably wait for the DVD for those.

  • what camera do you use? :)

  • I'm pretty sure there's a big film festival in LA some time this summer, so I'll definitely go to that. as a film industry major, it's probably important to see a lot of films.

  • Cars 2 this summer, Pixar for the win! ^_^

  • I'm hoping to try and see some films at the Toronto International Film Festival. :)

  • im from indianapolis so i'll be partaking in the Heartland Film Festival

and im working on watching all of the Truly Moving Picture from throughout the years.

  • all i am looking at is that hair.

  • PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN THIS FRIDAY, YAAAY!!!

  • Your videos sound like well structures essays..

  • Oh I hate that I'm saying this but when you said "movies" at the end of your video it sounded like "boobies".

  • MOVIES.

  • Films forever. Seriously. I'm excited to see The Tree of Life and Melancholia this year mostly. I'm also going to see Attack the Block and Thor tomorrow :)

  • @KateyMateyLaa THOR! Hope you have a great experience, I want to see that so bad, but the Big Bad Exams are stopping me for the moment.

  • Leeds film festival is pretty fun, for those in the north of England (woo leeds! :) )

  • @101malteesers Hey, I'm moving there this autumn! Nice to know there's stuffs to do and cool things and whatnot.

  • I'm super exicted about SIFF! A film I worked on is playing and it was shot on the UW campus last summer. It's called Judas Kiss, and I would definitely recommend checking it out!

  • When it comes out, I'm seeing The Hobbit.

  • @bcwabass Haha, well you have about two years to wait for that one... xD

  • next week theres the vienna independent shorts festival in austria. I'm really looking forward to it. It'd be cool to be able to go to the film festival in seattle but it's a bit far ;)

so i can just be glad that there are enough festivals in europe ;)

have fun at the festival and enjoy the movies!

  • "Let's pretend v this hair isn't here..." OMG your bald!

  • I wonder if they have film festivals in England if they do I want to go :D

  • Last time i went to the Vancouver international film festival. It was really fun, i think i'll go this year ^^

  • I went to Tribeca film festival a few weeks ago :-) It was uber fun!

  • I AM SOOOO EXCITED TO GO SEE THE LAST EVER HARRY POTTER !!! it comes out around the begining of july in England i'm not sure when it comes out in the US

  • Indie film rocks! :) All of us YouTubers (that make videos) are independent film makers sort of... I love making vidoes. I love to start writing scripts and stuff too... I really want to go and see Submarine. You should see that. It's meant to be really, really good.

  • Hahaha, the word films sounds foreign. I never say that. I was wondering why you were using that word so much. For me it's: Wanna see a movie? You see any good movies this year? And the like. Even at a film festival, people watch movies! I guess it's all depending on where your from, but I've yet to meet anyone else that says film!

As an actual response, movies are expensive. 10 bucks to watch one? I rarely go unless invited, or if Pixar releases a movie.

  • oooh thank you for telling me about this. im totally going now.

  • In February I went to the Rhode Island Children's Film Festival which was run by my aunt and saw a film called Louder Than A Bomb. (also, a note: it's not a children's movie. At all.) If it's playing at the Seattle festival, I highly recommend you go see it.

  • I wish I hadn't known about this so I could have had an excuse not to go... now I don't have an excuse but still won't go!

    /foreveralone

  • Go and see Submarine, I just checked and it's on there. I mean I haven't actually seen it yet but it's meant to be great and the director is awesome at other stuff so I'm sure his directing was good and I will see it at some point in the future, I think you should put it on your list if it's not already there, you know, yeah :)

  • I'll be in Seattle for the last day! Now to convince my parents to go since it's a 'family' vacation.

  • This is totally off subject but do you dye your hair out of a box? And if so what brand do you use? I want to dye my hair red x)

  • I just Googled film festivals in Kansas, and I found one, but it's in the fall...I'm hoping to be able to volunteer during it and to go see a few films...if anyone knows of anything in the Kansas or mid-west region festival wise for the summer, it'd be great to know. :)

  • I'm from Belgium, and I realy love it here. BUT .... there is absolutely nothing interesting going on here!

Well.... I may be exaggerating, There are interesting things to do or see. But what I wouldn't give to go to a film festival or a comicon!!! I so want to have that here!

I love your vids by the way!!! They always make me so happy! (I love the gestures that you do with your hands, I thought I was the only one who did that!)

  • @Lynntynia There are film festivals in Belgium, LOL. You have to actually look for things, can't just expect them to pop up. xD BIFFF is in Brussels and the Ghent Film Festival. And I'm sure there are smaller ones.

  • @owlssayhooot well im not really THAT interested in films. i mean, i like watching movies but i'm not one of those deep thinkers that likes to get all technical when it comes to that stuff. but i am really excited to see pirates of the caribbean. :)

p.s. where'd you get your shirt? it's really cute.

  • wish i could go to things like this, we never seem to have anything in england, especially in the north :')

  • @thatsanicetnettenba Never anything in england?! England is like the best place in the world! You have the best museums, you can watch most of the films and series earlier than the rest of europe because they need no translation and in general the UK is just absolutely awesome! Stupid boring Austria, I'm jealous. ;)

  • @thatsanicetnettenba There are film festivals all over the world, I'm sure you have one nearby.

  • @owlssayhooot Not in Puerto Rico. D: Even though we're US territory, we never seem to have all the cool things you have. Just anime/sci-fi conventions and concerts. :(

  • @JustHereForComedy Just googled "Puerto Rico film festival" and like three came up. Rincon is probably the biggest one.

  • I'm attending the Annecy animation film festival in a couple of weeks, and I'm really exited, as well as anxious because it's going to be my first time travelling alone. It's called growing up, I guess.

  • LEMME GO WIF YOU!

  • @GracieLue2 Cooome! I'm going to see like 12 things, mostly alone or with my mom. Remind me somewhere to send you the films I'm seeing.

  • i've never been to a film festival, if i found one with films id like to see i'd probably go to one! i go to the cinema a LOT and heres the films i wanna see this summer: i'm looking forward to seeing Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Harry Poter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Cars 2, Green lantern, x men: first class, and Transformers:Dark side of the moon.

looking forward to seeing your movie reviews :)

  • Haha, Marian the Nerdfighterian xD brilliant.

  • I totally didn't notice that hair until you pointed it out. I do realize that sounds kind of stupid as you pointed it out in the beginning of the video but I didn't notice it, and then I saw the thingy pop up so I went back to read it and THEN I saw it. Actually I just feel stupid for commenting on a piece of hair but I'm not a film fanatic or anything, despite the fact that I took a class last year on Italian comedy/tragicomedy (I did it because I missed Italian and wanted to watch old movies).

  • @stephlovesthejobros Haha, I pointed it out because usually like 90% of my comments are about my hair, so I knew everyone would point it out. So ridiculous. But I'm glad you didn't notice! xD

  • I love independent film, I personally think that they are better then hollywood films.

  • @SampritB Oh, most of them definitely are. Less driven by money, more by passion. :)

  • I'm off to a film festival next month! Can't wait! It has a film which Colin Morgan (Merlin) is in! <33 Have fun at yours!

  • in Miami we have MIFF.

  • I remember reading your tweets about this! I've always wanted to go to a film festival but I don't have anyone to go with lol. Here in St. Louis it's in November... but hopefully I'll go this time! ^_^

  • I go to most film festivals in america with my dad, but sadly we won't be going to the seattle one this year :(((( LA disneyland map awesomeness btw <33 You should see The Rite. if you have seen it already, what do you think?? :D

  • @missZiggy549 The Rite isn't playing at SIFF, unfortunately, but I've heard good things. And that's amazing that you go to most film festivals. That's my dream life, haha.

  • Your videos are so good , and I can't wait for your " the doctor's wife " review :D

    From france <3

  • Tintin! I'm counting down the days =D

  • I want to go to a film festival. I really like films, especially the more unusual ones. Looking forward to your brief video reviews and hopefully some more detailed ones on your blog :)

  • Dear lord I love Film.

  • I'm yet to experience a film festival. I really want to go to international ones like Cannes and Berlinale. I might go to Edinburgh International Film Festival in June. Maybe ha.

I'm the same with the word 'movie', I prefer saying 'film'. I always think 'movie' implies it's rubbish ha.

  • @kieranrichard16 In my mind, films and movies are very different. I think of big blockbusters more as movies, whereas more independent, creative, artistic 'movies' are films. If that makes sense. A film is an experience, to me, as opposed to a movie just sort of being...I don't know where I'm going with this xD

  • @owlssayhooot I think that sentence got away from you... I understand what you mean though. A film is an experience, something you remember about the viewing of it, or if the thing itself resonates deeply with you. While a movie is just there for the commercial aspect. You tend to talk about the director of a 'film', and the actor for a 'movie'.... like the Coen Brother's new film, and LIndsay Lohan's new movie (if she's even doing one)... I think this sentence has got a way from me

  • You know Marionthenerfighterion?!

I'm still jealous she got the book signed by John.

  • @FrenchTheLlama1 Haha yeah, we've been good friends for years.

  • Deathly Hallows. 'nuff said.

  • wish I lived in seattle :(

  • @MissBlondieoXo There are film festivals all over the world. I'm sure there's one near you. :)

  • LIGHT

  • This makes me really want to try and find film festivals around london now, awesome vid.
