That logic isn't right. If you play alot of fighting games (or watch anime) you'll know they're LOTS of characters that don't sound the way they look. There's many characters who look white but speak Japanese or have an accent (Rock Howard, Terry Bogard, Ken Masters etc.) It's funny how Japanese animators create characters with caucasian complexions and give them a foreign language, yet nobody finds that unsual.
The language doesn't matter. If it's done well, it will fit. If the voice acting is done with some actual emotion behind it, some actual "acting" and sounds good, then you can easily ignore the fact that its an American character speaking Japanese since it sounds good anyway.
The thing though is that the English voice acting in Virtua Fighter seems to suffer from the same type of voice acting and direction they use in the House of the Dead series and it just sounds really bad and half assed.
Sega in general never seemed to really care much about the English voices in their games (note; these aren't dubs, these voice originate from the Japanese version) and has always made them sound as bad as possible probably because the Japanese audience can't understand it anyway. Again, like I said, Virtua Fighter isn't the only game that suffers from this. House of the Dead is another example and there are plenty more, just look for any Arcade game made by Sega and you'll be sure to find it.

The fighting is not JUST like Tekken. Tekken is all about learning long, intricate juggle combos. You can argue that Virtua Fighter does have the same juggle combos, but the combos are not what determine a fight. Virtua Fighter is like a "twitch" game (Mega Man, Devil May Cry) in fighter form.
It's the person that reacts more quickly and more accordingly that wins the fight. It doesn't matter what kind of combos you know if you can't land them. Tekken doesn't rely on movement (sidestep, dashes, crouch dashes, the Virtua fighter's new offensive move) as much as Virta Fighter does. Tekken's physics are also very erratic, so predicting and reacting accordingly sometimes becomes dependent on random luck, not skill.
I don't know if you know this, but "beaner" is a racial slang. It's akin to "cracker," "chink," "gook," and "nigger." That's probably why the person who replied to you is offended.
By the way, his accent isn't British. It's American. Sometimes people of Hispanic descent grow up and/or live in the U.S.A.
