very interesting, we see a reverse in roles, Yoda on the offense (jedi aren't supposed to use their knowledge for attack") and Palpy who tries to flee (very un sith like since sith are feared warriors)
@Tr4y3r It really came down to a tactical decision, not because Yoda was weaker. Yoda could have very well been victorious, but he made two erroneous decisions: 1. He fought on the Emperor's grounds. 2. He allowed the Emperor to maintain the high ground.
The battlefield more often than not plays a much greater role in a battle than superior numbers or superior strength do, especially if it favors one side.
@persianking44 it's kinda hard to NOT let the emperor get the high ground when he his throwing these big things to yoda...obviously, darth sidious saw that yoda's sword skills was too powerful for him so he decided to use the force. there, it was a draw.the blast throw them both.
Emperor is always my fav; point taken though. The emperor was using gravity to his advantage by throwing the seats down down at yoda. Using the force to throw them up with momentum as yoda did requires more force to waste, and is harder to deflect.

@NemeanLion I think that's really because it was trying to focus more on the Obi-Wan vs Anakin fight, which imo is the only good fight the movies have produced so far. But its the same thing with Mace Windu vs the Emperor. Both Windu and Yoda are revered in the Star Wars universe as among the more powerful Jedi, but the films never showed that. The original Clone Wars made Windu a frickin badass who didn't need a lightsaber to take down hundreds of droids.
Only the Emperor should be able to produce Force lighting, because it was so extreme when he first unveiled it on Luke, its like the Dark Side exploded. But they had to running it with Dooku and ever since every Sith in every video game can do it. Also this should have been the first time Yoda used a lightsaber. Yoda was the one so in tone with the force a lightsaber wasn't necessary, but here since this is the ultimate battle between good and evil I'm fine with it.
When Yoda fought Dooku it all should have been Dooku charging at Yoda with his lightsaber, and Yoda dogging it while force throwing rooks at him. And when he took those Stormtroopers heads off, he should have force pushed them off the leg instead.
Yoda, didn't attain the victory here because of the place of battle. It was a difficult place to secure a constant even fight. Mace Windu, would have won, but of course Anakin had some other issues going on...

A series is only as good as it's villain, and I'm glad this actor was cast as the emporer because he's amazing. The series is as much about the emporer as darth vader, if not more. I also prefer their fight as is. Leave the spectacular drawn out sword duel to the young jedi, and let the masters match their grandeur in a display of raw power. The emporer's face at 2:52 creeps me out. Reminds me of the little girl in the exorcist.
I get a chuckle thinking about what if they rose into the Senate Rotunda while it was in session and everyone was like "isn't that the guy we just made emperor?"
George Lucas is re-releasing Episodes 1 - 6 in 3D starting in 2012.. an once there finished he has said to make Episodes 7, 8, an 9. So you got your wish.
@713lucian you underestimate the power of Sidious, dude. in fact, Sidious uses that kind of thoughts against his enemies by pretending to be weaker than he actually is. on the windu fight it is pretty obvious he feigns weakness since he clearly felt that he had anakin ensnared, and knew anakin would do his best to keep him alive. and he is well on par with yoda on using the force, if not, even more powerful. Yoda knew he couldn't win, so he chose to retreat

Also explains why he didn't fully train Luke, the old way wasn't good enough to defeat the dark side, or Yoda would have done it.

He is so awesome in this movie, he totally made this movie worth watching.. Esp during the fight in the Senate where Sidious is just throwing the chair's at Yoda like it's nothing an he's laughing away.
Ian McDiarmid is the best actor in the entire prequel trilogy an this scene alone proves it.
i can never tell when yoda is attacking or defending. He spends like 70 percent of the time flying through the air like a bad ass though, which is awesome.
lightsaber is clearly not the best weapon of sidious but he is an expert in manipulating the dark side of the force with absolutely no restrictions which allows him huge power, yoda is maybe the most powerful jedi but as the others is has to deal with keeping himself in the good side of the force which grants basically less power than the dark side, mace was superior to sidious in lightsaber duel because he used the vapaad form, a dangerous form which uses some of the dark side emotions
I think windu was more skilled with lightsaber, but he couldnt absorb the lightning blast without his lightsaber, unlike Yoda who used just force to stop it.
And how can u say Yoda lost? He basically stopped everything palpatine tried, his light saber attacks, dodged those flying chairs and absorbed that lightning.... sidious just couldnt do anything to beat Yoda so he had to escape.

For some really strange reasons, Darth Sidious always send his guards out of the room at the worst moment. He did that when Luke Skywalker challenged him. He did it here: 0:45

This is 1 one of my fav lightsaber duels from Star Wars. Finally, the 2 masters of both forcesI go head to head. It's obvious that Darth Sidious won, but (in my opinion) Yoda is the best jedi in the series

I know the Emperor is really bad ass if he was able to beat yoda(yes he did beat yoda because yoda forgot to "mind his surroundings" like Liam Nilsson aka Qui Gon said in Batman Begins). @09tranm its kinda sad that Star Wars had only 6 movies , i remember reading something that episodes 4.5 and 6 werent suposed to be end saga episodes but begining but Lucas at that time had some problems with his family/marriage + financial problems so he decided to finish story with episode 6 with reedeming Vader :(

Also 1 funny thing, Samuel L Jackson wanted to play Stormtrooper/Clone guy in Star Wars but Lucas gave him much bigger role as Mace Windu
@PantelijaS Well I'm pretty satisfied with 6 movies to be honest. In fact I'm satisfied with just the original trilogy. I mean the new trilogy had it's moments but wasn't as good as the original. I'll tell you one thing though. The new trilogy had much better lightsaber action and I really liked revenge of the sith(just not as much as any of the original three). @09tranm well lightsaber fights in old trilogy were slower because at that time they used some kind of glass for lightsabers so they couldnt swing harder or faster because they would brake it (technology wasnt so good back then) in new trilogy they used some plastic lightsaber models so they had freedom to pull all those stunts without fear of breaking them , Revenge of the Sith was good movie especialy lightsaber fights but didnt had that special feeling like in Return of the Jedi
@Duane422 yoda left because his vision pierced the cloud of the dark side for the first time. he saw a glimmer of hope for the future and realized he was too valuable to die here. it was a good move as he survived to train luke.
@benyblancofrmthabrnx I've heard that before; is that in the novel? Either way It wasn't clear or apparent at all in the film...which makes it silly...it also makes it as if the dark side is indeed stronger. Plus Yoda says "Failed I have...into exile I must go"
This scene shows that Lucas has amazing vision and creativity, but he cannot properly tell or put together a story in film. When he does it himself, he screws up the subtler psychological aspects of a story - which is why TPM, AOTC and ROTS were so much weaker than ANH, ESB and ROTJ. The Sidious-Yoda duel should have not only been longer - it should have had a more archaic, reverent feel to it and certainly more dialogue. Aspects of the Yoda-Dooku duel should have been used here instead.
Big question at 2:35 is how Yoda lost ground and how Sideous lost his lightsaber. Imo Yoda won this. Sideous was scared at the start, he wanted to leave, Yoda stunned him twice by knocking him back at the start then repelling the object thrown down at him. Ultimately it came down to the final force push at 3:26, Yoda got unlucky, his size made it harder, and he fell unfortunately.
look at 2:25 when yoda makes his last jump there and the camera changes to look at the emperors face, pause it between those two moments, such a failure that is

lightsaber is clearly not the best weapon of sidious but he is an expert in manipulating the dark side of the force with absolutely no restrictions which allows him huge power, yoda is maybe the most powerful jedi but as the others is has to deal with keeping himself in the good side of the force which grants basically less power than the dark side, mace was superior to sidious in lightsaber duel because he used the vapaad form, a dangerous form which uses some of the dark side emotions

I think windu was more skilled with lightsaber, but he couldnt absorb the lightning blast without his lightsaber, unlike Yoda who used just force to stop it.
And how can u say Yoda lost? He basically stopped everything palpatine tried, his light saber attacks, dodged those flying chairs and absorbed that lightning.... sidious just couldnt do anything to beat Yoda so he had to escape.

This is 1 one of my fav lightsaber duels from Star Wars. Finally, the 2 masters of both forcesI go head to head. It's obvious that Darth Sidious won, but (in my opinion) Yoda is the best jedi in the series

I know the Emperor is really bad ass if he was able to beat yoda(yes he did beat yoda because yoda forgot to "mind his surroundings" like Liam Nilsson aka Qui Gon said in Batman Begins). Looking back on my comment I realized I made a spelling error when I said "black" I mean't "block"(but hey what the heck it's the internet and not english class).

@09tranm its kinda sad that Star Wars had only 6 movies , i remember reading something that episodes 4.5 and 6 werent suposed to be end saga episodes but begining but Lucas at that time had some problems with his family/marriage + financial problems so he decided to finish story with episode 6 with reedeming Vader :(
Years later he made episodes 1,2 and 3
Also 1 funny thing, Samuel L Jackson wanted to play Stormtrooper/Clone guy in Star Wars but Lucas gave him much bigger role as Mace Windu

@PantelijaS Well I'm pretty satisfied with 6 movies to be honest. In fact I'm satisfied with just the original trilogy. I mean the new trilogy had it's moments but wasn't as good as the original. I'll tell you one thing though. The new trilogy had much better lightsaber action and I really liked revenge of the sith(just not as much as any of the original three). But hey this is just my opinion you don't have to agree. By the way, Thank you for sharing your opinion with me.

@09tranm well lightsaber fights in old trilogy were slower because at that time they used some kind of glass for lightsabers so they couldnt swing harder or faster because they would brake it (technology wasnt so good back then) in new trilogy they used some plastic lightsaber models so they had freedom to pull all those stunts without fear of breaking them , Revenge of the Sith was good movie especialy lightsaber fights but didnt had that special feeling like in Return of the Jedi

@Duane422 yoda left because his vision pierced the cloud of the dark side for the first time. he saw a glimmer of hope for the future and realized he was too valuable to die here. it was a good move as he survived to train luke.

This scene shows that Lucas has amazing vision and creativity, but he cannot properly tell or put together a story in film. When he does it himself, he screws up the subtler psychological aspects of a story - which is why TPM, AOTC and ROTS were so much weaker than ANH, ESB and ROTJ. The Sidious-Yoda duel should have not only been longer - it should have had a more archaic, reverent feel to it and certainly more dialogue. Aspects of the Yoda-Dooku duel should have been used here instead.

Big question at 2:35 is how Yoda lost ground and how Sideous lost his lightsaber. Imo Yoda won this. Sideous was scared at the start, he wanted to leave, Yoda stunned him twice by knocking him back at the start then repelling the object thrown down at him. Ultimately it came down to the final force push at 3:26, Yoda got unlucky, his size made it harder, and he fell unfortunately.
