Thanks man! I dont know what the number of strands on the wire is but I am upgrading my batter head to a Fiberskyn and the wires to puresound wires that cut out the buzz, I really think its just the shitty wires but thanks for the tips!
I have the first snare that you played and I am having troble tuning the buzz out of it, I am using a powerstroke 3 on top and an ambassador on the bottom with sound percussion wires. Any help with this is greatly appriciated!
@UnitCrane514 does buzzing come from just playing the snare? or buzzing when playing other drums? how many wires on purecussion? Are you tuning heads the same tension(bottom should be tuned a tad higher)! you can also try detuning the tenions rods on each side of snare beds a bit! hope this help!
i think that if you have to make a snare test between steel and wood snares, the should have the same head and hazy on it and at least have the same tunning and then compare and see which one sounds better and has a less ring to it. but thats just me:) anyways, i think the steel sounds better:)
@unlikeanyotherhuman good video period. good stick control.I hate time keeping but the sound is always versitile compared to what is on the drummers mind when putting the snare in time....I would always go with a wood snare but. your video changed my mind ,I like the Evans drum head defiant-lee .you can't go wrong with Slingerland drums....(-:
Greetings human, thanks for your kind comments! as for buzzing(sympathetic ring) these snares are being played in a two car garage with a 20 foot ceiling not the best of rooms for recording for sure! But snare sound is tighter in a smaller room setting! Los........
What the hell are you doing? You used entirely different batter heads in comparison? All things must be equal if you are to compare. Same heads are a must. Same tuning. Was this a joke? Or to find out how stupid some drummers can be? ;-)
Relax Gene, I just wanted to use heads that would bring out the each snares best sound potential! let's face it the fyberskyn sounds terrible on the metal snare, plus youtubers get to here heads that they wouldn't normally run on there snare drums! All's good in the drumming family! later.......
Greetings forzaitalia, you can usually find 3ply Slingerland snare drums from $100. to $250,depending on finish and condition! check e-bay,craigslist, and pawn shops! good luck...........

You should make the heads the same next time so we can clearly see the difference.

steel snares r loader than wood snares, i prefer steel
wp08021 1 year ago
Wood snare will always out sing metal even a cheaply made wood snare-..
what is the bearing edge set at ?,do you happen to know?-this will also make a
BIG,BIG difference when comparing snares especially between 2 wood snares.
nlbjones 1 year ago
@nlbjones Bearing edges are original old round edges!
cdiaz55 1 year ago
@cdiaz55 yes,but do you happen to know the cut angle..just curious thnx.
nlbjones 11 months ago
@nlbjones I highly disagree. I'd take brass/aluminum/steel over maple any day! Although I will say that birch snare drums are absolutely killer!

i love the sound of the fiberskyn, but fuck, i bought one of the weekend for a gig, 3 songs in, i put a hole in it. not too impressed.
Oceansandblue 1 year ago
@Oceansandblue they make heavier (powerstroke) fiberskyn!
cdiaz55 1 year ago
so i'm going to get a new snare drum. would you suggest metal or wood?
FrieLegos 1 year ago
I love the 3 ply Slingerlands. I vote wood. But I also vote Fiberskyn over EQ2. I play an early 30's Radioking birdseye maple so I'm a little biased.

no doubt the nature part;)

i prefer the metal snare :)

wood- warm n fat sound...steel- sharp n bright sound...=)
alvintkh 1 year ago
wood definetly has a more full pronounced sound to it while the metal is more bright and poppy so it depends on what you play

You should have done a head comparison using the same drum, first. Then compare the other drum using both heads. That would at least be fair.

WOOD........
