  • Hi Mat,

    I have a question.

Which IMovie Version are you using?

    Thanks!

  • i have a go pro question matt. How do you connect it to the helmet, i didn't get the helmet that came with it.

  • Hi there ! Are you a pilot ? :-)

  • when you are in iMovie and you export footage from your gopro to youtube directly, does it drop the quality from 1080 to 720? Because i can't get my 1080 footage on youtube.

  • Hey Matt, I have a big question. I want to start getting into video production type things, I have a windows laptop that isnt really going for me. I've seen a bunch of your videos on iMovie, which are both for iOS and Mac. I was wondering, can you do all the advanced editing you are doing on your mac in imovie on an iPad or am I better off getting a Mac Mini, which I am in the market for?

  • @Yippykaiyay No, there are a lot of things that you can not do on the iOS version of iMovie that you can in the Mac version.

  • @Yippykaiyay mac mini.

  • great tutorial,thanks mat

  • started using these tips for my videos. i can honestly say they're coming out waaaaayyy better!! thanks man!

  • extremely helpful, thanks alot :)

  • What lens do you use or recommend for Canon 60D?

  • @wayneharrel If you go to my channel page and search "DSLR Lenses" I have a video with some general recommendations.

  • @MattsMacintosh man i just got final cut pro x and i don't get how to adjust the whitebalance. Its very easy in iMovie but i nee some help with final cut.

  • Can you do these video's also for FCPX?

  • what camera do you have

  • @GuineaPigKid11 My videos are shot with either a Canon 60D, Panasonic GF2, GoPro Hero, or my iPhone.

  • at 2:31, you use the options of changing the Green, Red, and Blue gain in it... mine doesn't show that, do i have to change some settings to get it?

  • those it work on ipad 2

  • FREAKING AWESOME

YOU NOW HAVE A NEW SUBSCRIBER

  • I wish you would make more color correction tutorials. Your footage looks truly amazing!

  • @MattsMacintosh can i do this with in motion 5?if i can,how?

  • Is it me or does the host looks like Cole Phelps?

  • how do you do the blur at :13

  • These pointers are great! Thank you!!!

  • @JohnnyKMAFilm Dear Johnny, why do you feel the need to advertise your channel on successful channels? It is very rude and can annoy people. Best of luck with your channel.

    Michael.

  • RIP Steve Jobs. See you in iCloud!

  • Thanks so much!

  • Matt! Steve Jobs died today. 10-5-11

  • Great video abut I was wondering if u could do more iMovie tutorials?

  • thanks man u helped me a lot!

  • I no this is not pertaining to the vid but iPhone 5 or 4s has a confirmed date Oct 4

  • Thanks for the video dude. Helped a lot.

  • what video editor would you recommend for pcs???

  • Hello!! Man, I wanna buy an iMac... Gona use mainly iMovie and FCPX.. Question is: Wich is faster ? i5 or i7 ? Asking that because the i7 has 8 cores (even though 4 are virtual).. Will the FCPX and the iMovie 11 recognize and use those cores ?? To simplify: Wich is gonna be faster to use FCP X and iMovie 11 ? The iMac i5 3.1 ghz or the iMac i7 3.4 ghz ? Thanks man!

  • you should do some cc in after effects

  • what screen recorder system do you use?

  • @ConflagrationClone probably screenflow.

  • Is there any chance of you doing a tutorial of how to use the color correction on FCPX ? Its a lot more complex! (At least I guess so)

  • great info thanksss master matt

  • Thanks. Is was looking for this. Don't forget that you also can use the build in video effects to create some looks.

  • Which microphone did you used? And can I connect any microphone in my new mac mini '11?

  • I gotta say, these tutorials of iMovie have helped me a lot.

  • Too bad my mac wont support the newer imovie.

  • Can I ask, could you do a Final Cut Pro X Colour Correction Tutorial. I am probably wrong but I hear the colour correction in FCPX is more complex.

  • Great job

  • Is the GoPro footage from Idaho by any chance? I visit Sun Valley often and take side trips north. The trees look very similar. Lodgepoles, I think? Great tip! Editing can make a great shot look awesome!

  • Haha this is awesome! Every time I want a tutorial video or wondering how to do something, you make a video, and I wanted to learn how to color correct in iMovie, you're awesome, keep up the good work ;)

  • this makes windows movie maker look like a piece of crap. one of the reasons im getting a mac.

  • I've been photographing for little over 2 years now and with editing you try to keep it as real and beautiful as possible, but when I do that with color grading on my video's they look much less good. I feel like you have to go more crazy on the colors in video to let it pop out real good.

Like your color grading in this video. When your editing and you only see one shot, I think that it's oversaturated. But when you're playing the video, it looks pretty good.

  • You should go full time with YouTube, your great!

  • @MattsMacintosh Wow thanks for making this! Very useful tips, this will really help me with my videos! Keep it up! :D

  • can you render in 60fps on imovie yet ?

  • You should go over exposure and video settings on the 60D

  • What's that safari plug in you've got, the letter?

  • Hi, Matt.

I messed around for 2 days with this kind of settings (and editing of course) on my last project called "AJECTA railfest 2011" on iMovie '09 which I sent to Youtube today. It's really convenient.

  • How do I do this in Final Cut Pro X?

  • @ProgrammersWeb The color menu in the video inspector

  • cool

  • Hey Matt!

Are you going to sell your 2010 Mac Pro, and buy the 2011 Mac pro (if it comes out) ?

  • @Bullit163 Matt has already talked about not caring which model he has, and also. The MAc Pro is a very expensive computer. It's the kind that you get an update on every 4 years, not every year.

  • Someone accidentally pressed the dislike button...

  • That's is a nice tip. Thanks, and make more videos about iMovie 4. Big Fan of Yours

  • You forgot to mention that YouTube allows color correction after publishing now...

  • I never use iMovie and probably won't ever again, but how do you make the timeline wider?

Mine's all squashed and thin, it doesn't look quite right.

I have mine full screen however.

  • should i use video copilot's film magic pro for film look color correction, or adjust it manually in after effects?

  • Great tips, mate. I always make adjustments to my photographs but I've never tried adjusting video colour correction. Definitely something I'll look at in future. Thanks.

  • Hey, really useful video. Even for colour timing in in FCP X :D

Is there any chance we could see some Motion and After Effects tutorials?

  • @LOTRzagorath I would want to see some motion tutorials too.

  • @LOTRzagorath I just don't feel like I'm good enough at either of them yet to make tutorials.

  • @MattsMacintosh Fair enough, if you're not comfortable, then don't do it.

Just know, though, that to give a tutorial to someone like me, the teaching ability is far more important than the skill with the programme. I've looked, and been unable to find tutorials in either of these programmes that helped me, even though when looking at their work they looked skilled, they weren't great at the tutorial process. You've shown that you can be.

  • could u do some tutorials for gimp or something?

    BTW i love ur videos

  • nice tut man :)

  • is there any similar tool in premiere pro?

  • @sk8thore Avid, and Final Cut 7.

  • @sk8thore 3 Way wheel in color correction.

  • Matt i really love your iMovie tutorials. i've used after effects and final cut but i use imovie for just basic edits and, yeah i love that you take time to go through these basic stuff. :) appreciate it!

  • Wow - these videos are a really great help, the way you present them and the way you do things is soo simple that anyone can do it !!!

  • how the hell can you do movie in movie layer mine doesn't let me... PLEASE RESPOND

  • God Bless for still making these IMovie videos, they really help! :)

  • Put red to 145%, then green to 135% and blue to 50%. Go in the colorcircel and go with the dot to the left-under corner. Now put 'Vignette' on it and voilà! You got great colors!!!

  • Thankyou

  • GREAT VIDEO! this helps a lot!!!!

  • Great vid man! It really helped.

  • Hey matt. I was wondering something. what software you recommend for someone who wants to leave iMovie? after effects? or what?

  • lol i was just looking for this today hahah

  • With your opening video of the MacBook Air, you managed to pan the camera very nicely (like smoothly - camera did not shake or look amateurish - quite professional). Did you initially pan it as you were shooting (on a tripod, for example) and then used the stabilization option in iMovie, or was it a standard, stable shot then zoomed and panned in iMovie?

Basically, how did you get that nice pan? Thanks.

  • Very good tips!

  • I appreciate you taking the time out to do these tutorials. They are very insightful and easy to pick up.

  • Hey, i have the same MacAir that you have, is it common that when I boot it up that 1/2 of the RAM is already being used?

  • @NaviShergrillz What app is using it?

  • @MattsMacintosh imovie

  • @MattsMacintosh Messenger for Mac, Caffeine, Translate Tab, Yoink, iCleanMemory, To-Do Lists, Hyper Dock, and Stickies. This is only at start up. After using it for 5-20 minutes of using Safari or Word it goes down 1GB free. Activity Monitor shows that Safari and Safari Web Content uses the most at about 300MB.

  • @MattsMacintosh Messenger, Caffeine, Translate Tab, Yoink, iCleanMemory, ToDo Lists, HyperDock, and Stickies. This is only at start up. After using it for 5-20 minutes of using Safari or Word it goes down 1GB free. Activity Monitor shows that Safari, Flash Player (Safari Internet plug-in) and Safari Web Content uses the most at about 500-700MB total. I later shutdown all of these apps and it didn't change much. Sorry if I posted this twice, I don't think it showed up the last time I posted this.

  • Great video Matt!

  • More iMovie videos please! :)

  • What camera do you use?

  • @TheMcjapskiProject Canon 60D

  • @MattsMacintosh how about the lens matt? thanks for the tips

  • is there a decent way to color grade in a program like final cut express?

  • @GadgetHD My time machine is broken right now.... and all my vintage Macs are in storage while I'm traveling.

  • great video! I love how u make these videos with mostly with imovie and not with finalcut

  • what video editor would you recommend for window users?

    Thanks for your time

    PS great videos :D

  • @falli3 Depends. Widows Movie Maker is free, so I would start with that. I like both Vegas and Premiere if you want more advanced features. I would go with Premiere if you plan using a lot of the CS5 apps.

  • @MattsMacintosh Widows Movie Maker, sounds like a fun place... Widows. Hmmmm.

  • @falli3 Use Premiere Pro.

I just got it (Along with Photoshop and After Effects in the Production Premium package) and it's excellent.

I barely need to render and I can make an effect in After Effects and it appears right in Premiere Pro!

  • Hey so Matt I'm planning to film a video for a project I'm doing but I don't have something fancy as an SLR would color correction make it have that movie kind of feel?

  • @Pianoplayer1311 Absolutely. I even color correct my iPhone video.

  • Matt

  • Great video Matt. Hope you still check my videos out ! :)

  • So close not really awesome video

  • I know you already supported the cineskates programme, but when will you be getting them?

  • @isaaclimyj Not sure. You never really know with Kickstarter stuff since that don't even start to make them until after funding ends.

  • @MattsMacintosh Thanks for answering.

  • I know it sounds stupid but where can we see which camera & gear you use

  • Comment removed

  • @HenricMaverick I have a list on my channel page on the sidebar.

  • Nice video

  • your iMovie is better

  • Hi Matt. Can you make a video showing the different styles there can be, I'm making a short film with the Canon T2i and need a look and feel for the project.

  • @nicdem25 In terms of number of styles, you are only limited by your imagination. I recommend looking at movies that are the same genre as your short film and see the look they used. You'll start to notice that most horror films use cool tones, epic history films use warm tones, action films have kind of a green overcast, etc...

  • anyway, our videos will always suck compared to yours. xD

  • your iMovie videos are amazing

  • very informative.... I've been looking for something like this.

Once again, thanks mat and i love your vids. Very informative!

  • OMG I LOVE YOU

  • so close!
