when you are in iMovie and you export footage from your gopro to youtube directly, does it drop the quality from 1080 to 720? Because i can't get my 1080 footage on youtube.
Hey Matt, I have a big question. I want to start getting into video production type things, I have a windows laptop that isnt really going for me. I've seen a bunch of your videos on iMovie, which are both for iOS and Mac. I was wondering, can you do all the advanced editing you are doing on your mac in imovie on an iPad or am I better off getting a Mac Mini, which I am in the market for?
@MattsMacintosh man i just got final cut pro x and i don't get how to adjust the whitebalance. Its very easy in iMovie but i nee some help with final cut.
@JohnnyKMAFilm Dear Johnny, why do you feel the need to advertise your channel on successful channels? It is very rude and can annoy people. Best of luck with your channel.

Is the GoPro footage from Idaho by any chance? I visit Sun Valley often and take side trips north. The trees look very similar. Lodgepoles, I think? Great tip! Editing can make a great shot look awesome!
Haha this is awesome! Every time I want a tutorial video or wondering how to do something, you make a video, and I wanted to learn how to color correct in iMovie, you're awesome, keep up the good work ;)
I've been photographing for little over 2 years now and with editing you try to keep it as real and beautiful as possible, but when I do that with color grading on my video's they look much less good. I feel like you have to go more crazy on the colors in video to let it pop out real good.
Like your color grading in this video. When your editing and you only see one shot, I think that it's oversaturated. But when you're playing the video, it looks pretty good.
I messed around for 2 days with this kind of settings (and editing of course) on my last project called "AJECTA railfest 2011" on iMovie '09 which I sent to Youtube today. It's really convenient.
@Bullit163 Matt has already talked about not caring which model he has, and also. The MAc Pro is a very expensive computer. It's the kind that you get an update on every 4 years, not every year.
Great tips, mate. I always make adjustments to my photographs but I've never tried adjusting video colour correction. Definitely something I'll look at in future. Thanks.
@MattsMacintosh Fair enough, if you're not comfortable, then don't do it.
Just know, though, that to give a tutorial to someone like me, the teaching ability is far more important than the skill with the programme. I've looked, and been unable to find tutorials in either of these programmes that helped me, even though when looking at their work they looked skilled, they weren't great at the tutorial process. You've shown that you can be.
Matt i really love your iMovie tutorials. i've used after effects and final cut but i use imovie for just basic edits and, yeah i love that you take time to go through these basic stuff. :) appreciate it!
Put red to 145%, then green to 135% and blue to 50%. Go in the colorcircel and go with the dot to the left-under corner. Now put 'Vignette' on it and voilà! You got great colors!!!
With your opening video of the MacBook Air, you managed to pan the camera very nicely (like smoothly - camera did not shake or look amateurish - quite professional). Did you initially pan it as you were shooting (on a tripod, for example) and then used the stabilization option in iMovie, or was it a standard, stable shot then zoomed and panned in iMovie?
Basically, how did you get that nice pan? Thanks.

Hey so Matt I'm planning to film a video for a project I'm doing but I don't have something fancy as an SLR would color correction make it have that movie kind of feel?
Hi Matt. Can you make a video showing the different styles there can be, I'm making a short film with the Canon T2i and need a look and feel for the project.
@nicdem25 In terms of number of styles, you are only limited by your imagination. I recommend looking at movies that are the same genre as your short film and see the look they used. You'll start to notice that most horror films use cool tones, epic history films use warm tones, action films have kind of a green overcast, etc...
Hi Mat,
I have a question.
Which IMovie Version are you using?
Thanks!
