damn listen to them play. you know those people who, when you tell them you like the clash, say "Oh yeah, i know them. they sing should i stay or should i go." ? i feel so bad for those people.
lol did anyone else notice at about 0:40 when the interviewer puts the mic up to the kid thats asking mick a question? The interviewer puts it under pauls chin and paul pushes his arm away, and the interviewer like rubs pauls chin lmao.. sorry I thought that was hilarious
@SugarSpunQuill they refused to do TOP of the PLOPS precisely because of that - They had PAN pips dancing to BANKROBBER I seem to remember reading...Strummer in WHITE and Simeonon shirtless...that would get the girls screaming !
anyone got any more clash footage, especially interviewed with fans . GET IT UPLOADED. its good to see how the band treat the fans with respect, but sneer at interviewers, especially knobs like this one. you exspect him to ask "what is your favourite colour" R.I.P topper & joe
Thank You, Blasty! This is marvellous ... I especially enjoy the energy of the fans and their physical proximity to the band. If ever there was a metaphor to sum up the relationship between the two this would be it.
Forgot to mention, it was a regional program, made in Newcastle at Tyne, Tees Studios. There was another program made there called "Check it out", this was the one that John Lydon aka Rotten swore on, a big no,no in those days. Not sure but thats somewhere on the web as well.
I am in the audiance, if I remember correctly the Clash refused to come off after the two songs they were meant to play, they must of played about six songs, what a night, has anybody got anymore tapes of this program, as I was there a few times watching different bands, didnt know this stuff was on the tinternet, I'm the bloke right in front of the camera, near the end of the tape, the one with red and white hair.
never ever seen that before. never even heard of "alright now" . was it a regional programme? any info appreciated. this is how it should have sounded on vinyl. in fact all of "give em enough rope" was ruined by pearlmans production. an americans idea of what a "rock " album should sound like. should have been clash produced, like the brilliant sound of "prisoner" and "pressure drop". crisp and punchy.
this is epic, the clash are great

Den Hegarty, who is interviewing the band here, later provided the spoken word mock radio segments on Sandinista!.

Lol I have the same birthday as Paul Simonon, I never realised. I love how they'd only play if they could do it live.

Note Topper's Born Reply:
Born:
To Lose
Then he became a Junkie. The power of words be careful...
I had the tremendous good fortune to see them in Feb, IN WDC, USA, a few weeks before they recorded this.
I can see the difference in their shows from Feb to this. Clearly influenced by going to the USA.
You new fans know how you think they were incredible?Yes, they were *that* good, you lot.
Be grateful, listen to their CD's and all their early bootlegs.
Brilliant Brilliant.
