  • Deitch's subject matter would NOT have been allowed in mainstream theaters back in the 30's.

  • I used to see this and many other old B&W cartoons films on what is now channel 13 -then one day there was something wrong with the transmitter. My mother came over and switched the channel to -the Mickey Mouse Club ! I stayed with that for a long, long time.

  • I haven't seen this film since I was a kid. The last scene looked like the Cthulhu Mythos !

  • do you have from Van Beuren, Doughnuts work in progress (???)

  • Watching these animation s are really a trip when you're stoned and listening to early Pink Floyd.

  • They were a real couple of turds! They kill the poor camel for being thirsty, then skeletons entertain them and they hit one with his own leg and pull another's head off.

  • And the final scene looks like - the Cthulhu Mythos of Lovecraft !

  • water!!!

  • Great Big Sea-- I dunno, but I am downloading this right now thru Real Player SP Downloader

  • Looks like "Walk Like an Egyptian" wasn't so original, after all! (nor as clever as this!)

  • This is very much like the Fleischer cartoons of the same era.

  • Very cool! But I wonder why when I try downloading this, I get a message like "URL does not contain video"?

  • Water!

  • Music byt Gene Rodemich who recorded for Brunswick clear back to 1923. This is my favorite Tom and Jerry (Waffles and Don) cartoon.

  • @78timothy hehe! Glad to know that! I have many Rodemich 78's in my collection...

  • what an amazing ending

  • It's very nice!

  • i watched these as a kid =þ

  • These are new to me, were they ever on tv , like the old Terry cartoons?

  • "Give me my leg. Gimme my leg." So classic. Great!

  • Where can I buy this on dvd?

  • I second that!

  • I'm looking for 1 Van Bueren cartoon called : "Cinderella Blues".

  • I don't have that one.

  • :) Ok.

  • This is beyond weird...makes you wonder what the makers had in mind. The ending looks like "Hey, we've reached the time limit, time to wrap things up!" Why does the little guy always have his cheeks puffed and his mouth screwed over to one side? Is he supposed to be chewing tobacco?

  • wait, did they just beat the cammel to death?

  • Clever but not as good as the Fleischer material of the same time

  • I guess this was the inspiration for Gene Deitch's Waldo comix stories. I've always wondered what he was referring to, and now I think I know.

  • It's Kim Deitch, Gene was his father. But, yeah those late 20's and early 30's cartoons are a huge influence on his comics. I love his stuff.

  • @zootsmcgurn wat was van beurens last show?

  • Deitch was no paragon of virtue and his stuff was NOT family friendly or SFW. He was not committed to a set origin story for Waldo. Was he (1) a secret agent, (2)a demon reincarnation of Judas Iscariot trying to redeem himself, (3)a hallucination of a hopeless alcohol (Boulevard of Broken Dreams) or the offspring of an unnatura;l sex act ?

  • My parents just came back from a trip to Egypt, unfortunately they didn't encounter any dancing skeletons. Where can I buy these Van Beuren cartoons? I love this crazy, often disturbing shit!

  • i got a collection of them from the dollar dvd shelf at our wal mart not too long ago.
