Nana Mouskouri is the Highest Selling Female Artist of All Time ! Fluent in 10 languages, She has sold over 230 Million Disks Worldwide, recording over 1,500 songs in 15 languages on 450 Albums. She has more than 230 Gold and Platinum Albums Worldwide with total record sales Worldwide in excess of 300 Million, more than Any other Female performer in the history of recorded Music ! She is the Highest Selling Female Singer, and Elvis Presley is the Highest Selling Male Sing
There should be more warmth, more soul, more feeling, more emotions, more spirit, more fire and more humanity, so to speak. Miss Mouskouri is wanting in each of those aspects
Yes, Mouskouri's voice is very sweet. I like her White Rose of Athens. But she must stay away from all Streisand numbers. Anyway, she's clearly outclassed on this tune.
As a man, I can't imagine my wanting to have Ms. Streisand's voice in my ear for this tune. Especially with such a romantic subject as "Why Did I Choose You, Ms. Mouskouri's is a perfect match for the lyrics. When I hear Ms. Streisand sing, for me its very much like the reaction I have to a coach's whistle. This is hardly what would inspire me to become sensitively romantic. I'm sure Ms. Streisand is a fine person.
As a man? As opposed to what? A dog? You say you are sensitive to whistles. Check out Streisand's version here on Youtube, I think that will more than settle it. Unless you have an inborn predisposition (as a man, of course!) for wan meowlings by feline Athenians. I've heard better pipes on hummingbirds
Incite: This comment is precisely in the spirit of what I associate with Ms. Streisand's voice.
If I wish to listen to a Rottweiler's version of "Why Did I Choose You," I'll purchase Streisand's recording.
On the other hand, I'm sure that Ms. Streisand has had to struggle in therapy, so I will root for her. A softness of soul would then be reflected in a softness of voice. A softness of voice would then be appropriate to the delivery of a song such as "Why Did I Choose You."
Streisand's is the best. Period.

It is such a nice song, when done by Johnny Mathis, or Nana.

Listening to it or not listening to it remains pretty much the same.Singing ofr singing sake.

she had a nerdy look, looks like a librarian from the 70's. I like barbra's version, its more emotional appealing. Nana's sounds like whatever

Really? People fighting over Nana and Barbra? This is hilarious... Well, I choose Nana... jajaja.
But thanks God for both of them!

I agree, it's not even close. There is no way Streisand can come close to the sweetness in the Mouskouri voice.

Insight: I agree- if you like softness of soul and voice, you are in the right place.

On your cue, I went to the Streisand version, and, WOW, you are right! Enough said.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I didn't mean to disrespect Mousk, Hers is a different sesitivity from Barbra's. Both are fantastic artists in their own right. (But Barbra's better)

Barbra has nothing to worry about here
