I don't understand how he can do that on the skinny strings... Is it just a matter of finger strength, string tension, string gauge, amp? or does the guitar have a lot to do with it?
I can't pull off that clean, and i practice on a 12 string... It's true that i don't have a structured playing style like he does, and i'm working on it. But i can't pull off, on random notes like that anyways...
@Jamsessionroom1337 While I'm no where near as skilled as this player, I can tell you it's quite a bit different for me between acoustic and electric (I'm assuming you're practicing on a 12-string acoustic, but even if it's a 12-string electric it's still a big difference).
Tom I want to know what it's like when you randomly stroll into a music store and start noodling around. I just want to see people go "WTF? What's your deal?" That's some sweet "random nonsense".
He can shred without a back up track, plays with feel, he has a nice flow to his "random" playing, and he held my attention throughout this whole video. Excellent playing. I dont know if he can but If he can produce compositions that are equal to his playing abilities then I would say keep an eye on this guy.
@JadeMonkeyBand It IS really interesting, but I feel that my picking style works for what I do. His fluidity, however, is something I will probably never master. :D
You still make me drop my jaws :D damn you, question:
I'm playing guitar 14 years already but I can't think of progression like you did for example at 0:09 - 0:15 ... I somehow can't pull it off in 1 smooth clean run, how many times did you play it slow, how fast did you advance to faster lvl? What to be careful about when practicing, give us some advice lol
P.S. how slow? Make a video how do you practice guitar...this is the point where guitarists "shine"
i would love to have an improvisational session with you man. your playing's great, you really have got it all, technique, musicality, great tone, and your chord progressions are awesome too!
I want to learning stuff like this, can anyone please give me things I should study or learn?? cause i jsut dont know where to get started with this type style of music and playing
man is it me or did that have some of the song , 'jessica' in it. may have just sounded similar also sounds a bit like 'cliffs of dover' dont really matter though considering that it fucking rocks :) haha
damn, this is a nonsense? if im the one playing this 'nonsense' i wouldn't call it nonsense but something like 'greatest shred licks' or some shit like that. seriously that is something! definitely got cool licks in there, well, at least better than any of malmsteen's licks
awesome man. Are you using your Toadworks here? If so, PM me the settings please. Thanks man. Great Playing as usual kind of Guthrie and EJ mix. Sounds like Andy Timmons in a way too.
nice playing as usual. do you still use the mesa express? I tried one out and when I pointed the speaker towards my face, even w/ the treble on 1, it was too much high end for me.. i ended up buying the lonestar special.. how do you set up your amp? (location)
Outstanding "NONSENSE" Tom! Seriously, that was cool!
I know your idea of cool is typically related to some harmony but nonetheless, you were "ripping" here! A little "shred" never hurt anybody, right?!? (Especially when you can REALLY play, and you Tom CAN REALLY PLAY!!! - You're an excellent teacher too!)
Thanks! Loads and loads of really slow practice is the way to go! And I mean really slow. I use 9's on this guitar and 10's on the hollow body. All standard D'addario sets.
Hmm - I haven't decided yet but the Xotic strats look amazing. Not sure how I'd go about trying one though as they're made out of California I believe. Allen Hinds swears by them. I think I want something quite unique.
