@TheWallyLopez the el gato capture doesnt record your voice, but it records any voice in the game, to record your voice you have to record it sepperately on your computer
I'm looking to buy Elgato EyeTV HD uam also to record my gameplays, however I learned that the board has a "delay" of some seconds, thus making it difficult to write and comment "aovivo"

Will it lag to much to play and record at the same time? Also without recording will it lag? I ask the 2nd question because I'm used to Computer gaming and my friends got me to switch to xbox but I like using my macbook's screen better. So will it lag?
he man plez plez replay i cant upload any gameplay on youtube when i try to upload a gameplay that i recorded from my eyetv it says error and when i tried to upload the gameplay on face it also says sorry, that's not a video file that we support. We currently only support the following extensions
i want an answer of this question i have HDMI cable with HDTV and im putting the display on 720p but there is one problem when i for example playing crysis 2
the detail of the picture is so bad but after 2 or 3 minutes it will get better
@dato19972011 if you actually took a second to read through the comments you would see that you can play on your computer without having to record but there is a really bad lag.
dude i have a question. I use the same set up as u and if you go under eyetv's display options, what do you have your HDTV set as?? For example do u have it at progressive scan or motion adaptive? I'm just confused about which one to use because i think my mac is not fast enough for progressive scan.
@GetSheezOn No, since you aren't going through your TV that doesn't matter. It will look right if all display and export settings (Computer and XBOX) are set to 720p.
@bfugal so if i have my xbox settings to 720p or higher and then upload it to my mac and i will set the imovie upload setting to 720p, will this result as ur quality? pls tell me
@phils2020 no, not "720p or higher". anything higher than 720p wont work. Also, make sure that the encode setting in the preferences in EyeTV is set to best quality and it should look as good as this video.
@creptoo59 I looked at your video and you're right (great vid by the way). Even when it's in HD the details are kinda blurry. Somewhere along the way isn't set to 720p. I'm thinking you exported it from EyeTV with the wrong settings (not HD), then it probably stretched back up to 720p after exporting the final video. Make sure you export out of EyeTV into "HDV 720p" and always use native settings in your sequence settings and your export settings.
@bfugal I appreciate the help but I found out what I can do, I can export to quicktime player as an hd video with all the correct settings and then when I publish it through youtube its hd, I just put a quality test up and it looks great
@P7ODiGY It's all default. I don't even know if it is possible to change any of those settings in EyeTV. I didn't do any color correction or modifications in Final Cut either.
@ThePWGamer highlight the file you want to export in EyeTV, go to "file", "export", then choose the "H.264" option where it says "Format", name the file and chose it's export location, SAVE, then you can upload that file to YouTube.
I was wondering. I recently started playing my 360 on my computer screen. I was wondering, it's hdmi out from xbox to hdmi in on the monitor. Is there any program like camtasia, that will record from the hdmi source on my screen ? Thanks for the help.
are you playing your game through your imac? this is what i am wanting to do, i am buying a product called kanex XD which enables me to play my games on my imac, and also to be able to use my imac with the press of buttons on my keyboard. but i also want to be able to record my gameplay on my imac, is this possible??
@conormacphee From what I know about the kanex XD, it just turns your iMac into a monitor for your XBOX 360. You can't record gameplay at the same time.
@theT3chbr0th3r5 ScreenFlow is made to record what is happening on your computer's desktop, not the monitor, if you were to use kanex XD you won't be using the computer anymore, just the monitor. It's kinda confusing if you have an iMac or a laptop because it's all looks like it's the same thing but the monitor is separate from the computer's OS desktop. it virtually unplugs your computer from the monitor and plugs your console into it. get it?
@xbiggchrisx See the video and description, it's all there. There is also a bunch of extra info in the comments that should cover most issues that you may have.
@xbiggchrisx Make sure that your XBOX video settings are set to 720p first, and the switch on your xbox cable is switched to HD. Your video is probably like that because you don't have a HD TV so you don't have it set up to send out a HD signal. When you do all of that, your software should automatically recognize a 16:9 720p HD signal.
@leftynic Does the audio work fine when the cable from your Xbox is connected to your TV? If you are splitting the signal, do the other audio cables work when used for other things (DVD player, etc)? Try swapping out each cable (USB and A/V) one at a time and do a test record each time to see if a bad cable somewhere along the path is the problem. If that doesn't solve anything, then call Elgato and/or trade the EyeTV HD in for a new one. Good luck
@trialondadeck It doesn't come with the HD PVR. You have to buy it separately. The box is originally meant for recording TV programming so it needs extra equipment for playing and recording at the same time. :\
Hi, thanks for the video. I'm looking to get this box to record my Xbox 360. I'm trying to see if there's a way to record and play at the same time without using a "splitter." When you record, does the software have a little monitor window that displays what it's recording? If so, I could just hook up my Macbook to my TV, and use that little monitor window to play if it maximizes. So, would that work?
@hirummy There is a monitor window that shows what you are recording and yes, you can record and play at the same time from your computer but there is a significant lag that is created by sending the signal through the box into the computer. at least one second of lag. When playing games like COD that kind of lag makes it unplayable. If you are just playing back stuff like theater videos or cut-scenes, then the lag doesn't make that big of a difference.
@hirummy I actually don't use a distribution amp. I put all of the clips together in the theater mode available in Call of Duty:Black Ops then I unplug from my TV and plug into the PVR to record everything at once, then edit, etc. If you get one, make sure it is Component (Red Green Blue), and it has at least 2 outputs. Do a search for "Component A/V Distribution Amp 2-Out" and you should find what you need, but you will most likely only find one with 4 outputs, which seems to be standard.
@bfugal Every time I export a video it enlarges it and makes it not fit the screen correctly. Do you know how to fix this? Watch my video if you don't understand what i'm talking about. It cuts off the top and bottom half of the video :(
@LfsuGaming Your aspect ratio of your source video looks like it is 4:3, and HD video is 16:9. is the switch on your cable set to HDTV? if not you will get an SD signal. That could be one reason for it. Or something related. Otherwise, If you got the HD PVR why aren't your videos HD? Are you using any program to edit? make sure that you don't modify any video settings when editing/exporting. Always preserve the original aspect ratio and resolution and you should be fine.
@SuchRawTalent If you set it up like I said (with a splitter and signal amplifier) then it should record in 720p fine on your computer. Other than that, you can't have your computer recording anything while you have the XBOX connected to your TV. What I do is I make videos in Theater Mode through my TV, and when I know what I want to record, I unplug the cable from the TV and plug it into the EyeTV HD and run it to my Mac. I don't just play on the Mac because it has like a 1 second lag.
@SuchRawTalent Your XBOX will only send one signal at a time. If you want to use your TV and capture to your computer at the same time (by splitting the signal) then you might be able to plug a SD cable into your splitter for the TV and have the HD signal going out of the splitter to your PVR.
@Gphazor Yes. The difference is that composite AV (red white yellow) has a maximum resolution of 720x480 interlaced (480i) and looks like crap when you watch full screen. The Eye TV HD gets a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 interlaced (1080i) or 1280x720 progressive (720p) and looks great even stretched to watch in full screen. Component HD (RGB+RW) is a larger, more detailed image. The resolution is 1.7-2.6 times better. IMO, that's a pretty huge difference.
@bfugal Thx man, for the answer and those resolution facts. now i know why recording in a/v doesn't look that great; never knew it was interlaced. i know now for sure i got the wrong one. :p
@heythereitsmehans your video file might not be correctly exported. The only time that ever happened to me was when I didn't check the box that says to "make the movie self contained" in the export window that asks you to name the exported file. If you don't do that then it is an "empty .mov" file and cannot be uploaded or viewed on any other system than your computer because it is still pulling from the original video files instead of being its own independent file. I hope that helps.
@bfugal cool thanks, so you just used elgato eyetv hd, without using any other hd pvrs, because i went to other videos, and they where using a haugpauge hd pvr with eyetv as in the software, not the eyetv capturing device, and pretty much they use the eyetv software so they can capture using a haugpauge, so they can transfer the captured video to a mac, am i making any senses here, but thanks.
@siegfred484 yeah, that makes sense, because when you set up the software you can pick between a huge list of possible PVR boxes that are compatible with the EyeTV software.
@bfugal thanks for making everything clear to me i can't wait to get my elgato eyetv, and ill mention you if people wants help, on how to set up theirs, and ill subscribe can't wait what videos you'll post soon, and thanks again.
i was about to buy this on amazon, but i need more info, did you just used the eyetv with out any other devices like a haugpauge (hope i spelled that right) HD PVR. please reponde if you can thanks
Yeah, I am not just using the Eye TV software. This quality test is for the Elgato EyeTV HD which is itself a HD PVR hardware device that comes with the software (EyeTV) for your computer. Kind of confusing because the box and the software have such similar names. get it?
The box turns the XBOX connection into a signal that can be passed through a USB cable (Because Mac computers don't have Component inputs). This is the only way that I know of to capture HD video.
can you be more specific with the DV file format you converted with? I got the same setup as you but cannot for the life of me figure out the best quality to upload in youtube.
@Ne0Russell Yeah, so you export from the EyeTV software in DV if you want to edit the video because that plays well with Final Cut. If you don't want to edit, and just want to post straight to YouTube (or when you are ready to export to an edited file that you will then upload to YouTube), make sure you export to a H.264 Quicktime file with native settings. That is definitely the best format for high quality video in the smallest package. Just don't try to edit H.264 files, it is a nightmare!
does everything u said aply to a ps3 aswell
