I had the same problem with GTA IV on my 360. it would freeze always two minutes into the game. i read it was due to the dvd-rom the game was put on not being but i installed the game into the hardrive and played for atleast 3 hours and nothing happened. its been good since. however since u have the arcade, u have to see if buying a new or used HD is worth it. i think it is.

Yeah I got a freeze problem on my 360 and it's brand new basically got it like a month or two ago from micrsoft around Christimas time in fact Christmas eve lol. I don't know what to do. It seems like every time I complete a mission 5 minutes after it freezes. I hate it. Or even if I don't do a mission it freezes after 20 minutes. It didn't use to though on my old 360 only like once a month maybe not even. I don't know someone said installing works so who fuqn knows.

i fixed it by doing the tooth paste trick.............. rub tooth paste around it and let to sit for 5 mins then rise it off.

i am not sure what the problem was on the 360. i do know that R* didn't test the game on the first run ps3s, so if you have an older 360 i would say that is probably the same problem. R* claims there is nothing wrong with the game itself - even though they are the ones that didn't make sure thier game would work on all systems. i don't have any kind words for R*. well, that's not totally true. they did create san andreas after all, which is a much better game than gta4 anyway.

no. they were not able to give me a patch or any kind of fix - sony admitted fault. it had something to do with the chips they put in the first run of ps3s weren't compatible with the game, so sony sent me a new ps3. i was very fortunate though - some people had the same problem and were just shit outa luck. my heart goes out to them. i still blame R* for not testing the game on the first run ps3s. R* didn't care, so thanks to sony for stepping up to solve a problem they didn't cause

the game has started please turn off the following features:

1) The games auto-save. Press Start, Game, and locate the Auto-save option. Turn this off.

2) Turn off the games flicker filter. Press Start, Display and locate the Flicker Filter option. Turn this off.

3) Turn off the controller vibration feature. Press Start, Controls and locate the vibration option. Turn this off.

GTA IV freezes because it takes big part of the ram and the steps they put on their site are to make less use of the system ram.. you did all the steps but you probably forgot the last 3 steps ( i can't blame you.. this game lets you forget even your own name..!! )

unplug your either net cord from your ps3 or if your hooked up to the internet wirelessly, disable that, also turn off dvd upscaling & ps2 upscaling

only if you have one of the original ps3s. the first run of 60gb has a chip in it that allows it to play ps1 and ps2 games without an emulator. this chip is not compatible with gta4 so they're working on a firmware update for the chip. they're also working on a patch for the people with internet problems.
