performers were so professional back in the day and well spoken. Heard keisha, britney, jlo on the radio today and really couldn't tell them apart. So much voice processing, loud beats, effects.

And no one sings it straight anymore. Everyone tries to add too much acrobat stuff (vibrato, compression) to their singing these days. Here I can clearly hear the quality of karen carpenter's beautiful voice. There was no need for any embellishments. Personally i take karen's voice over mariah carey.

If you listen very closely to this at the beginning of " Close To You." Richard plays a wrong note, and Karen shoots him a look... almost like she is silently telling him " Get on the ball Richard.." It's rather cute in a way.. But both she and Richard where perfectionists when it came to stage preformance and if anyone in their band improvised or emblessished their playing outside what they'd ok'ed Karen would be waiting backstage to reem them out for it.

She wasn't even a singer in the beginning of their career - she was just a drummer. Then, one day when they were in the studio trying out singers and they couldn't find the right person. The producer asked Karen to just do a trial run of a song her brother wrote. The producer couldn't believe his ears. He said: 'why don't you sing the song'? Karen said: 'but, I'm not a singer'. The producer replied 'yes, you are'!
