i love shan(tai) too eventhought i am bamar(burmese), and i also love chin, kachin, kayah, karen, arakan and tanintharyi(tavoi) people. We all need to be unite and to free from bad regine. i love all you are from burma and world.
The song's name is "Mong ChaCha Peemai". Mong and Chacha are the sound of Gong & Cymbals, Peemai means New Year. Then "Mong Chacha Peemai" may be the "Sound of Shan Music Instruments on New Year's Day". Shan New Year begins on the first day of the first month (Loen Zeng)of Shan Lunar Calendar, between the 2nd fortnight of November and the 1st fortnight of December. The scene is Shan Kar (dance) in the New Year Festival at Namkham,Northern Shan State.
Thank you ... Beautiful culture and beautiful people. I love Shans... well, I love all my ehtnic brothers and sisters... Arakans, Kachins, Chins, Mons< Karen and Kayahs...
Where does this song from? Does it come from north of Thailand or Kengtung? I think it comes from north of Thailand becuase I can understand the song very well.
This might be true because they don't want to get mix up with people in Thailand, even though they are Tai or have Tai root too haha. I heard more Tai or Dai being used than Shan.
I don't think so...but as you said, some Burmese (esp Karen) along Thai-Burma boarder call Thais as Shans... But, we (Burmese) use Shan as ethnicity... Anyway, they are our brothers and sisters!!! Long live Shan-state and her culture!

Yes, the Burmese call the Tai people Shan, but also in Western countries "Shan" is more common than "Tai".
proudtobepalaung 4 years ago
"Shan" also means "mountain" in Chinese. So we are also "mountain" people.

Are the Tai Lu and Shan the same people? If so why do they call them Shan?
kingxCobra 4 years ago
Shan are divided into several ethnic groups, e.g. Tai Nue, Tai Sa (China), Tai Lam (Laos), Tai Lue (Northern Thailand) etc.

Shan is a Burmese word that they used to call the Tai people right?

coz thai, laos and shan r in same ethnic group, which is basically known as tai/dai
boedawgyi 3 years ago
@kingxCobra only Burmese people call them Shan. They call them self Tai. Cuz burmese people hard to pronounce Siam. So, the siam later became Shan.
