@Scarecrow545 High point? It was his FIRST recorded album and he didn't get to display his writing talent on it. His best work was on his last album with the band, "Master Of Puppets".

You could hear him best on KEA (though I think the production took a bit of his power away since it was so sterile and dry), but I thought MOP was his best sound....when you could actually hear it. He had a lot of distortion and grittiness on that album that I like.
I think Ride has his best distortion sound (see: Bellz, Ktulu), but a lot of the time, when he was playing in the lower register, the actual body of the bass was distorted, so it was swallowed up by the guitars, and you could only hear some clicking and overtones. I've 'learned' to hear the bass on RTL and MOP, but it's still not as clear as KEA.

Honestly, I dont think he even put up all these videos to sound good, but rather so viewers can hear how the bassline sounds the whole way through.

Thinking in terms of balance and structure, I agree with you completely; however, I will say that this is much better than the bass-inaudible recording. But definitely man, Rush would never like bass this loud, and I think about Rush when I think good balance/sound quality.

Well, as a fellow bass player, I would still disagree haha.
Perhaps if Cliff didn't have his bass overdriven/distorted throughout this album, this'd be a bit better. IMO Kill was his high point for bass tone.

@Scarecrow545 High point? It was his FIRST recorded album and he didn't get to display his writing talent on it. His best work was on his last album with the band, "Master Of Puppets".

@Scarecrow545 Yeah, I did read that perfectly. You could hear him best on KEA (though I think the production took a bit of his power away since it was so sterile and dry), but I thought MOP was his best sound....when you could actually hear it. He had a lot of distortion and grittiness on that album that I like.

I think Ride has his best distortion sound (see: Bellz, Ktulu), but a lot of the time, when he was playing in the lower register, the actual body of the bass was distorted, so it was swallowed up by the guitars, and you could only hear some clicking and overtones. I've 'learned' to hear the bass on RTL and MOP, but it's still not as clear as KEA.
