  • that's a really neat plank! you're so strong to be able to pull that off. You have come a long way from your first vid =) keep it up! I hope to try that move soon. I attempted it first time and slided down the pole.lol

  • Thanks! I try to practice every third day of the week-- one day weights at the club, the next either bike riding or treadmill if weather is cold, the third day is pole...

  • wow that was fab well done looking so strong can tell you have been practicing

  • Thank You!!!

  • Joel you are the freakin man!!! You just keep getting better and better everyday!!! You are my inspiration. I have no idea how long it will be until I can do scissors lay back and plank but thats you to I have high hopes!!! My idol!

  • Thank You, JC--well, I haven't reached idol status yet, LOL! But I'm trying to get a little bit better each time. I'd settle for just being able to throw down a decent combo here and there without getting out of breath!

  • So envious of your plank! Wish I could acheive that move!

  • Thank You...I'm still working on it--it's still not quite level. I 've got to push my butt up a little more--but it's getting there. When you do the move, try tilting over to the side as much as you need to to reach down. Also, do that "inside rotation" thing with your legs: turning the knee caps inwards towards each other. You get a little more surface area to grip the pole...

  • Nice plank/magicians assistant :P

  • Thank you! I had not heard that term for the move--but it is a great name. Yes! Because it looks exactly like the floating girl with the rings trick!!! That's funny because back around Halloween here in the States, I went to a show on Navy Pier..and there was a "Punk Burlesque/Magic Act--and he did that floating girl trick. I like that name better than "Plank"!!!

  • That was awesome, well done!!

  • Thanks...it's been hard staying focused on Pole--finally got some warm weather in this miserable, cold country--so I've been riding my bike a little more and poling a little less! Thanks for the nice compliment!!!

  • Whoa! Great job!! I love watching your videos.

  • Thank You!

  • yay joel! you always execute your moves so flawlessly. and you're so cute that you know all the proper names for moves...sadly i do not. keep poling doll!!! xoxo

  • Thanks, Glitter! I just noticed a day ago that your new profile icon is this same move--the scissors layback! Yours is very impressive--and I think you did it on SPINNY! I owe the name to Fleur--she was the one who told me what it was called a few minutes after I posted. I kind of stole that hands free layback from somebody else, LOL!--don't remember who, but it is a nice looking move and I wanted to try it. I copied the scissors move from BlueSkye33--I love her style. Thanks for watching!

  • wow Joel!! you have really impressed me with your skills!! your coming along really well..it's awesome to see how you've improved so much in so little time..keep it up hun!!5 stars*****

  • Thank You!

  • Love the lighting effect in this vid!! Joel, you have blossomed into such a graceful poler, truly. The steps you took so properly have paid off for real - it shows in your moves - that plank was flawless! Congrats on all your hard work!!!

  • Thanks! The scissors layback was a cool looking move the first time I saw BlueSkye33 do it. It turns out to be a little hard, but not that difficult to do. The major problem is a little "twisting and pulling" on your skin. Doesn't help if the pole is TOO sticky when you try it...

  • Awesome plank at the end, Joel! I thought the video editing was kind of cool! You are really coming along with pole! Great job!

  • Thanks, Allie! I have really been enjoying watching you get a little fame and fortune from your poling skills, too! The whole superbowl gig, the professional video shoot--lots of exciting things are going on with you and that is a wonderful thing! Thanks for watching!

  • you are too much this is so sweet!

    very impressive!

    you looked fantastic

    =)

  • Thanks! I just really thought that scissors layback you did was so cool looking. (This is what Fleur tells me is the name of the move). I didn't have as much trouble holding the move as I thought--but it does "pinch" the skin quite a bit when I "scissor" out the legs into position. As for the Plank...well, it seemed a little better this time, but it still scares me reaching down and tilting back into that move!

  • wow wtg joel..!! great no hands lay back.. thats a hard one!

  • Thanks, Karol! Leg power moves don't seem all that hard for me. But moves that involve flexibility or core strength seem impossible to get! I spent two hours Friday trying to make the gemini look better and half the time I still couldn't even get the move on the pole at all! The layback, though, seems fairly easy. It's weird!

  • Wow Joel! ^o^ It was awesum just to like see you get straight into a trick! I was like O_o look at him just chill up there for a while! =D fantastic! Theres one thats kinda like that, but like inverted, I believe its called the Tammy. When ur upside down n holding urself up by ur feet, n u drop the foot thats in the back (i think I can do it but i cant explain it) but with ur leg strength im sure u can do it ^^!!

  • Oh...OK...Yes I get the idea. Well, that's actually almost "Half a Jade" sorta--but tilted off the pole in one direction. I think I understand what you mean. Ha Ha--it's funny because I think up stuff and I will describe it to somebody in a comment and they are like "Hunh??? " I think I do that to Fleur all the time and she will comment back--"can you show me?", LOL! Thanks for watching!

  • haha yeah i know I was like hmm I don't think ive actually seen a jade O_o i may have to look it up. everyone calls alot of the moves by different names so =) thats also how it can get so confusing

  • fantasitic!!! u've really progressed! luv ur setting as well, is that black ligh?

  • Thanks Emily! I do have a black light bulb...but it never seemed bright enough to make the vids look really cool. I need a bigger one. Actually, I just used one of those goofy "visual effects" that are in WIndows Movie Maker. This one makes videos look like a cartoon. I did it to hide my stupid looking sunburn. My head looks like a turnip or a bright red tomato!

  • wow what a plank! and nice variation there w/ the layback...it's got scissor legs, but idk exactly what it is called. it's nice though. lookin good my friend..sorry behind here, much luv, shelly xoxo

  • Yep, Fleur says it is called the "scissors layback.." Makes sense! I just noticed that glitterhips has a version of that move and is using it on her profile page as her new icon picture. I think she is doing it on spinny mode. Thanks for noticing the Plank...I did figure out how to "notch" that plank into the pole without killing myself. It's a little trick you have to do--you kind of lift UP and tilt BACK. It solves the "male" problem if you are VERY careful, LOL! Thanks for watching, Shelly!

  • WOW Joel, you look like a pro!! Love the moves, your grace has developed in leaps and bounds and combos too, your dedication is showing! I hope to have a new vid out soon, in a new venue... I've been sans pole for a month now :(

  • Yes, I wondered about your new location--but I didn't say anything about it before 'cuz I wasn't sure it was public yet. Will you have adequate height and proper ceilings in the new place? Be careful with who you let move your pole--I remember Studio30 had such a terrrible time with her movers--I think they put a dent in it or something! That could be a good roadtrip and the lyrics for a new country music song: "On the road with my U-haul, my cat, and my pole..." Thanks for watching the vid!

  • hey there...i totally love that split leg thing...i like to do it then go into the wrist sit..for some reason that works out well for me, who knows why lol...im sorry about your sunburn, i know they HURT..

  • Thanks! Yeah, I got a little too excited about the summer weather. It was hard to focus on poing--the weather was soooo nice. It's been crappy and cold here in Chicago for such a long time. Frozen water from so much snow actually cracked our front porch stairs in half, LOL! Gotta love those midwest winters--although I wouldn't mind retiring to Hawaii!

  • Wow You've got that layback down. It looks great. You've come so far!

  • Thanks..! I did sort of figure out a work around to get closer in to the pole. It's tricky and dangerous...Ha! ...probably "Too Much Information" to describe it in detail, LOL! But you can kind of see me climb up just a little and tip back before I do the Plank. It's kind of like how the wrist seat move gets set up. It works OK if I get it just right. Otherwise...OUCH!

  • Yay Joel - you're getting it! Great plank :)

  • Thank You!

  • your performance of all 3 moves was awesome!! you're looking more and more stable with every new move you learn!!

  • Thanks, Azriel! So as I am typing this...just a few minutes after you watched it--I'm thinking with the 2 hour time change that Veena must be on her way over to Poletential--the place Fleur teaches at. They are having an open house at the Studio and rumour has it that the dynamic duo will be there, LOL! I'm so jealous. Laurie and the kids are out of town and going to the movies alone doesn't seem nearly as exciting as a pole jam! Hope things 'round the Aegean Basin are more exciting!

  • Can't wait to get to where you are!!!!

  • Thanks, Mannah! Well, I'm not very far, LOL! I'm not sure of your age, conditioning, and previous athletic interests...but I'm sure you will be fantastic at it. Progress comes in fits and starts and it helps to have a good sense of humour about the whole thing. Because some days, absolutely NOTHING happens, practice is a disaster..and then you have to sit down and laugh for a few minutes because it gets so ridiculously frustrating! Over time, though, you see progress and you'll be excited!

  • woah joel...20 secs i loved it . then 45secs xx 1:06 i actually said out loud " thats brilliant, well done ", fab plank xx

  • Thank You! Fleur tells me that the second move is called a scissors layback. Actually, quite a bit of grip is created between the legs in this move. It's less a matter of danger than of pole burn--because as I "walked" the legs out, I got a little skin twist. As you lean into the direction of the downward pointing leg, it seems to get even more grippy...but a little painful, LOL! I'm thinking a hands free version of the scissors might even be possible... Thanks for watching!

  • Wow Joel!!! Great handless layback! I think that is an extremely difficult move and you nailed it! I call that second move a scissor layback. Keep pushing the feet down on that plank. You are getting sooo strong!!! Do more vids! :)

  • Thanks, Fleur! I finally got a long block of time to practice, post a video, and catch up on all the vids in my "in box"! Laurie and Johannah went downstate to visit grandma, so I've got lots of free time in between laundry loads, LOL! Just finished watching your uncut dance a second ago! Fabulous! Thanks for the compliment! By the way, that scissors layback is hard--but not as impossible as I thought it would be. I found that "twisting" the thighs a little gives a pretty solid grip...
