  • STEVE VAI SE LO CHINGA BIEN CABRON

  • I tried playing a scalloped neck before. It's like learning to play allover again. I'm too old to start over.

  • OH CHRIST MAKE HIM STOP!

  • UUUUUUUICCCCHHH,,,QUE MONSTRUO EN ESA GUITARRA,,EXELENTE

  • screw Ella Bachmann couse of audio

  • ke kantidad de gutarrisras buenos ke hay , komo este y no son konocidos ba por lo menos yo no lo konocia es un groso

  • top 5 guitarist (random order) eddie van halen, reb beach, paul gilbert, richie kotzen, george lynch!

  • Best site for these guitar dvds is search web for keyword: GoldmineGuitars

  • any1 else click to this because of the yngwie videos?

  • @mrhendrixfan123 Lol! Yeah. Busted!...i am going back to listen to Malmsteen...LATE!

  • i gotta admit this is the first time ive heard him play, and im impressed

  • and then... carpel tunnel

  • is this a women or a men ?

  • finally! i found a guitarist that picks the same like me!...okay my picking is ugly too...

  • Ritchie Kotzen, one of the greatest performers in the gear. Virtuoso and he also has very good taste. Ritchie rocks!!

  • Me, I just like guitar playing...all styles. I like different players for different reasons. I appreciate what Kotzen was displaying here (circa 1988 or so?) because he was one of the pioneering wave of virtuoso rock/fusion players that advanced the technique of guitar playing. I like this vid for its display of unabashed chops.

  • Love the guitar.

  • does anyone know if he used any pedals to boost that laney?

  • @deanml1986 I've got an old Guitar World mag from 1990 where he says "You know what I have for a rig? My guitar, a cord and my Laney half-stack. That's it... I don't use any effects at all." It's also worth noting that even here? He's using 0.11's. They make a HUGE difference in overall tone lemme tell ya...

  • Thank god he started making proper music

  • @Airipela ahahahahahaha come hai fatto a sgamarmi???

  • @FMGuitarChannel ...ah semplice... perchè io questi video li guardo maniacalmente quasi ogni giorno ..:)

  • just a bunch of random notes that really dont go together, i like Paul Gilbert

  • ... Sweep picking is pretty damn hard, but meh, I never liked the sound of it.

  • it seems his hands grew with time. lol?

  • zum kotzen!

  • that was awesome, best new solo i've found in a while.

  • thats one strong left hand!!!!

  • SOUNDS CRAP SORY!!

  • ritchie is a monster..

  • hilarious name, boy!

  • His little finger has another brain.

  • @underver :)))))

  • Very unorthodox sweeps... this guy is a freak, i am in awe.

  • WHOA.... SCALES! played REALLY FAST!!!

  • Ritchie is an ALLTIME GREAT!!

  • In the 80's there was this chick we nicknamed " Ironhead" at our parties cuz she wouls show up with her hair straight from the curling :iron"...and so funny cuz for all that teasing...she would be the only one who could sit thru all the metal songs all night...and say...ok now i recognize that one..."It's Ritchie Kotzen!"..and its doubly funny that we teased her...and she like twice as pretty as girls nowadays!

  • THIS IS UNBELIEVEABLE

  • much better than Steve Vai and I have no problem saying it

  • Some awesome sweep and tapping licks there. He's definitely got chops out the wazoo.

  • Ritschie Vomit

  • My gosh, this is some of the most beautiful music ever. I must say he is definitely a master at sweeping, and its amazing that he does it without making it sound boring like so many guitarists do today.

  • Jesus, Kotzen is amazing

  • Fun Fact:

    Kotzen is "PUKE" in German.

  • For real!?

  • yes, Kotzen means Puke, look it up on a translate page or something.

  • @WackenOtto

    Funny.....

German word meaning to puke or up-chuck.

Mad skills though. Never took the time to listen to him before today.

Plays it like he could do it asleep.

I don't know how he could have slipped my radar all these years.

  • @WackenOtto PUKE is "vagina" in Filipino..

  • WOW Excellent Sweep :D

  • @diegoescolochog.... you usually dont like shred? what do you listen to? screamo.....shred requires true tallent.

  • Herman should take some lessons from Richie...

  • Pure Shredding.... usually I don´t like shred but I love this one.

  • the world would never lack for stupid people,Richie plays the guitar with soul and passion, and he is way better than you think. As you can notice in this video,Richie is not only a distinguished Rock guitar player but also good at Fusion Jazz,Funk and of course blues

what he played distinct from others,he's music combined lots of style,it is not boring at all,and what you said definitely make you look even more stupid,,and that means you are totally unfamiliar to Richie Kotzen!

  • I really don't see any point in explaining things in that way. If someone doesn't understand what makes this man a great player, I say fuck him. I don't like Petrucci, I don't like Malmsteen, I don't like Vinnie Moore, I don't like Batio, but it's the music they make I don't like, when it comes to pure skill there is nothing to say except: fuck, these people can play some mean guitar. Rock on, man!

  • And by the way, you don't have to listen his entire opus to realize what a beast Richie is, it's enough to see a few clips on you tube in which he switches from neoclassical arpeggios to funky licks and simple riffs with such unbearable ease, that you simply must be retarded not to appreciate his abilities and skills.

  • Yeah thats richie back in the days shredding the hell out of his guitar. Today he is even better than that.

Most people trolling here dont understand much about guitar playing and shredding.

Shredding this piece at this constant pace is so hard to do...

Even people like Vai appreciate richies skills, wich is something to think about.

Anyway, respect mr.kotzen (kotzen in german means to vomit uhm... lol) i hope ill be able to play that one day :)

  • Great comment. I was wondering though, where did you see that Vai appreciates his skills?

  • I cant believe the haters here - obviously based on jealousy! This shred display was a sign of the times- PLUS, Itz a TECHNIQUE video, folks - therefore, he IS going to shred and show off! Check his stuff now - he has amazing technique still, but it takes a back seat to his soulful playing, and song writing/singing. He has matured musically, and is still in the top leagues, more so than he was here!

  • boring .........sweeps ..........

  • epic troll

  • Kotzen is in a league of its own. Twisted shit!!!

  • Fuck it...this is beautiful soloing....

  • Astonishingly good technique

  • As far as technique is concerned, he's got some chops, but I've heard dozens of guys right here on youtube who have just as many great licks & hardly anyone knows who they are. In the Classical music community one is expected to have technique. You can't play in a major orchestra unless you have chops. Same with Jazz or Bluegrass. This kind of thing is only new to Rock players, and even that is over 25 years old. 10,000 fast licks ain't shit without good music to put them in! Get over it!

  • I know, listen to Greg Howe. He's a guitar madman.

  • @onegnarlyguitar Which "unknown players" on youtube are you referring too? I haven't seen anyone on youtube who is 19 years old(Richie's age when he made this) who can shred as effortlessly as Richie does here. Please enlighten me.

  • @tasdvl9 Jason becker???he is like 17...

  • @ChromeTombz richie kotzen is a year younger than jason becker

  • mindles shredding,jippii

  • Kotzen is the german word for puke

  • Kotzen plays so well, however I think comparisions betwen musicans lead to nowhere.

Both of them have different styles and both gave great music equally.

The two of them have their pro's and their con's as well.

It's a matter of accepting indiduallity, don't you think?

  • allucinant..

  • I didnt know Ritchie Kotzen got down like that WOW. He sure did hump that machine at 2:31 though

  • lol

  • Amen ^-^

  • OMG im a gutarist i play wow i want to play that HECTIC RICHIE

  • love this video

  • technicouly Great ! But sounds like shit!

  • Man, watch his other video. In this one he was 17 or something.

  • Actually 19, but still i don't think you will find any 19 year olds these days who are half as good as what he was. Now he is a master.

  • yeah. but he is was still no Jason Becker. far short.

  • Actually man, just plain shredding wise, I would say this is close if not as good as Becker. Composing tho, Jason destroys Kotzen. Technique they are equal man.

  • I have to respectfully disagree, Kotzen is, and was, far less talented in all regards,

  • How do you figure? He plays just as clean on sweeps, tapping and string skipping. Just because Becker plays neoclassical sweeps with hyperspeed doesn't make him technically better. Kotzen could do anything technically as well as Becker.

  • Kotzen's vibrato is weak, especially for someone who fancies blues. he also, never utilizes any interesting legato phrases, which renders him even more boring

  • really? I suggest checking out Gambale for the best (bar none) sweep picking technique

  • @sonitusdeus: Gambale starts to sound very boring after you listen for a while. 95% of solos is sweeping, matching with his "efficiency picking formula". This solo of Richie is more versatile in my opinion.

And you can bet that Gambale cannot play this, same as Richie cannot play Gambale stuff.

  • @phileasfogg07 why don't you stop listening what technique it has been used and start listening to what notes are used...Rock guitarist like Richie play 1 chord songs so i cannot see what creativity you can do on improvisation on 1 chord. On the other hand Frank is a fusion player and a natural improvising genius. When you hear Frank Gambale shredding/sweeping on 1 chord let me know. You should check out Chick Corea's electrik Band.

  • @phileasfogg07 You're right! Gambale does get boring. I was sad to see that he repeats the same solo about 70% of the time. It's a great solo though.

  • hehe Kotzen means in german Puking

  • ja das stimmt (yeah thats true) u616

  • and "die" in german means "the" hmmmm

  • just noticed....its a scalloped fretboard from around the 12th!!!!

  • It's actually scalloped only at the last 4 frets.

    Ben.

  • if u like richie kotzen guitar (in this video) u should cheak mine page

  • @VintageMord like some jem's

  • @VintageMord

did steve vai copy ritchie's idea? or was it the oposite?

  • @CarlosCepinha opposite, steve vai did it first

  • @Captinfingers its like the JEM guitars where the last 4 frets are scalloped. if you look closely, its only 4 frets at the end that are scalloped

  • @Captinfingers now ive heard of a scalloped fret board but idk wat it means...perhaps u could tell me?

  • @nikolaishrederguy

Scalloped Fretboard is the "scooping" out of the wood between frets so that there no contact between fingers and wood, only string and the fret itself.

  • @Captinfingers o ok thank u

  • @Captinfingers what are the benefits to scalloping

  • @Nardbluzrootz

So you can play faster by not having wood to press down on. The wood scooped out between frets forces the string to "bridge" to the next fret when pressed down by the finger. This 3 way ( ;) ) metal on metal on metal creates the same sound as metal on metal on wood. It's faster because you don't have to press down as hard.

  • i love at 0:11 1:00 it remind me went i open the doors to boomers
