I find it hard to decide if its happy or sad, a bit like is Mona Lisa?
But that way it fits with the scene after April has peformed the abortion and is sat at her window bleeding. I think at some points she seems sad and scared, because she is slowly bleeding to death, but other times I think she seems happy, relieved, that she is escaping the "hopeless emptiness" through death..
well yes, it does repeat some elements from another track, "Route". that's because it's from the same soundtrack. it doesn't recycle some older tracks, it just picks up that theme, and theres nothing wrong or dull about that.
I love how haunting this piece is. It reflects the anguish and turmoil that April is going through. Then towards the end, it picks up the tempo because she has to pull herself together and go on with her life.
This music is so pure in emotion and feeling I am in a mist, a dream and on my way to a heaven, yet, unseen and beautiful. A sadness takes over me as I look back on all I haven't yet lived. I have lived, yet, not in my heart, fully, only partially. The cost is high and I am in some way willing to pay a price, maybe, not sure. I am frustrated because I know in my heart there is more you know it too and I can see in your eyes, your sadness. I do love you, my beloved, I do.
I always get so upset that Thomas Newman doesn't win oscars for his work. He's brilliant and my favorite composer. It's so frustrating to see such talent go unrewarded by the Academy. I mean, I loved the Slumdog Millionaire score, but the Wall-E score made me CRY it was so good.
Most composers, not all of them, tend to repeat themselves. James Horner, Philip Glass, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, even John Williams, and Thomas Newman. They are all easily recognizable.
Yeah, they use similiar cues and such. And yes, they're easily recognizable. But this sounds EXACTLY the same. Again, it's not bad music, though. It's still beautiful. As for other composers, Hans Zimmer's action pieces tend to be alike in tempo and the beats and stuff, but he's still my favorite composer.
It certainly was a very powerful film, but I find it extremely hard to enjoy when the subject content is so, so bleak. Expertly made and acted though, just very, very dark.
I know what ya mean mate. Terrific peice of music, but coupled with the deeply tragic scene from the film makes it very difficult to enjoy on its own.
Amazing piece. If you love this check out Fila Brazilia's Subtle Body. It somehow reminds me of this piece. It's a piece of very stripped down electronica, Check it out and see what you think. Love this piece so great... i have not seen the film yet can't wait to see and hear it!
Newman kind of plateaus in this score and although there are for sure beautiful moments - myself am a huge fan of Newman - seems at times either underwhelming or too much like his sections of his score for American Beauty. The film is surprisingly powerful, even though Newman could have undoubtedly produced something much grander than he did. His score for WALLE won an oscar; his score for Revolutionary Road was unfortunately not even nominated : (
that's another reason why also i'm angry, because "down to earth" composed by thomas newman and peter gabriel didn't win too, and it was all for the overexagerated love for Slumdog Millionaire, a really good movie, but nothing in comparation with Wall-e (songs, OST, story, sound design and sound edition). Thomas Newman is a genious, and Pixar too.
Without giving anything about the film away, the scene in which this peice of music is played is one of the most powerful things i've seen in film for a long time. Seriously powerful stuff!!
the scene is when she stares at the window...and goes away...i think this piece you refer is like a painting but with soundtrack...it looks not real (surreal i suppose) if you see it a few times...it's so symbolic and enigmatic at the same time...Seriously powerfull indeed my friend..
I think this piece is so perfect given the context of the movie.....conveying both tenderness and distance at the same time........thomas newman always gets it spot on
thats meant to be *a bit like is Mona Lisa smiling or not?
