  • I have trained with Sensei Akihito Yagi last year... I know how happy is he when he looks how other countries practice karate

Gojyu ryu Meibukan is one of the traditional karate schools

and please...is not about who fights better...it's about devotion...if you want to be the best (something that no one can achieve) then try some competition, but when you get older you get sportless, you will appreciate knowledge, not physical power....technique...and is then when you want to do self defense

  • @chuequitosam I love karate, and I expect from people respect to what they doing

is sad to see that a sensei call himself "shihan"

please, think about it...when you saw a sensei using this label, you can instantly realize that any okinawan practicioner trained 10 times more than that kind of "shihan" in his life

not for "social status" or business

is to made ourselves better...sensei Akihito said to me "Karate man is allways the second"

please practice, thanks for uploading the video

  • O professor de Goju-ryu é melhor no kata e no Kumite!

  • @LewisLad96 - Akihito Sensei is a 6th dan in Okinawan Goju Ryu. If what he does isn't Goju, I don't know what is. Now, it's true that it isn't Goju-kai or what some call "Japanese Goju," but his Goju is excellent, and these Canadian children are quite fortunate to have had the opportunity to see an actual Japanese master instructor in person.

  • tht aint goju ryu

  • @Lewislad96 DIFFERENT DOJOS HAVE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES! Why doesn't anyone understand that?!?

  • 7:35 asshole!

  • Vaya una mierda de seipai, entreno con gente que es cinturon negro infantil que hace este kata infinitamente mejor.

  • I am bored of commercial karate. This is not the way.

  • kuro obi nice movie u ll seee goju ryu sensei in this marvelous karate movie

  • what is this bullshit ?

    please do explain

  • lol @ the guy doing aerobics upstairs

  • Idk......kinda looks even

  • Shito Ryu is better

  • Who cares which art is better than the other or this art vs that art....Most of the time it depends on the student and or instructor and not the art....Just go do what you like to do and enjoy it for your own reason....The real test is in the street where there are no rules, just life and death.....Even UFC or MMA have set rules in the ring....

  • I only can't understand what is about with all that yelling?

  • @StillOnMars it's kiai. similar to how boxers expel gas after a power punch, it helps with breathing control, keeps your body in balance and gives a mental confidence of a stronger hit.

  • Hadoken!

  • 1st one looks like goju

  • лохи

  • that is JKA type of sports kumite!!!

  • Shito guy yells a lot.

  • Lol, I remember when I was training and every sparring tournament, everyone was afraid to engage eachother and you can really notice it in this video.... They just stand there and taunt eachother.

  • I am a Goju Ryu Karateka 11 years, Ikkyu ranking. And I hate sparring my friends. I always hold back out of instinct of not wanting to hurt them, they are untrained and just throw very bad muwashi geri and try to grapple with a stand like Kimbo Slice. They leave themselves open and I just tend to not throw any techniques, at all. But in a fighting situation I'm totally different, exploding on my opponent.

  • @HairofSteel555 be kind to friends :)

  • Comment removed

  • low level commercial karate.

  • @mhnstelneisemail

yea, karate sucks. took it for 9 months, then i quit. after that joined the wrestling team in high school. learned more in my first month in wrestling then i did in my nine months of shito-ryu.

  • haha canada

  • That is a black belt kata?

WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and reached black belt?? you shit!

leave the Shito ryu to shame (the Shito ryu is a style of speed and explosion)

Shihan angelo Mendoza do not deserve to have that belt!!!

  • @chicorasta100 That is a breathing kata for Shito Ryu. I should know because I've been in Shito Ryu karate for 10 years.

  • The Big Guy: "Enough of this choreography shit!" -_-

  • @bakagundum12 the first is goju ryu and second is shito ryu

  • i love both this styles :) .

  • The guy in the background on the elliptical is puzzled as to why he hears karate screams on his ipod while the Rocky theme plays.

  • Very bad Kumite...the fat guy is a llttle more technical, but they really fight bad...if your are giving an exihibition you shoul practice before to try a good Kumite demostration...

  • @andresnegro1 Wow you must be a Tenth Degree Master of "GumFu" to have such authority to criticise. I bet you'd Piss your pants in a Kumite match then go on Youtube to Hate on martial Artists.

  • @nandansho: No I´m not a 10th.degree Master, but I´ve been practiceing Martial arts since 1984. Shao Lin Kung Fu (3 years) at the beging (Green-red belt), Hawaiin Kempo (Black-belt) and Grappling (two full years), 7 th. place in 1992 Panamerican Karate Championship and a lot of experience in international competitions.

  • @andresnegro1 Yeah Well i am a Shuri Ryu Master,, USA, USKA State National and World Champion. My School trained Joe lewis, Bill "Supertfoot" Wallace and Ron Mcnair (Nasa Astronaut) You don't know squat, That Sensei would eat you for lunch. and Me I'd put you to sleep in 6 seconds.

  • @nandansho Good...congratulations...My Grand Master Bill Ryusaki knows them all very well...and they know him too...well they call him master..anyway sport karate is intresting sport...looks like real karate sometimes...good for your medals, maybe the Shito Ryu or Goyu Ryu friends from the video can catch you up in real karate...I don't train know... possiblly you could have avantanage in an actual kumite...but could I use grappling or kung fu technics? Just to be fair on me... regards.

  • @andresnegro1 Since Shuri Ryu was the 1st Karate Dojo in America before Ed Parker and created The USKA The largest Karate Org in The World. I believe My Organization is a competent Authority on skill.

Before Toughman. before PKA, before UFC, Pride, K-1 there was USKA and i was doing Kimuras on the mat and Arm bars waaay before UFC got popular. In case you don't Know Shuri- Ryu has everything, throws Jointlocks, kicks punches chokes and Kill techniques. I have fought boxers,MMa, and many Styles

  • @andresnegro1 I want you to scan Streetfights on youtube where the protagonist is a Karate Player, Also look up GPC Jordan, Machida, Kung lee,GSP. Every consistent Champion is a Karate stylist. Including Keith Hackney who destroyed a 6.8 600lb Sumo in UFC 3. You talk about Real Karate? Well i fought a Tang Soo Do Stylist (Chuck Norris' style)in continuous fighting(on film) and knocked his teeth out in Worlds. so you are full of shit and need your ass kicked some more.

  • @nandansho Don't get angry....If you loose your selfcontrol, you will loose your battle...besides you will get wrinkled... regards...

  • @nandansho Send links please....In street fighting there is black man (Kimbo), doesn't seem he can teach nothing good...easy to beat him....other names you suggest are good fighters...couldn't find your video. No my friend, I´m full of knowledge with your kind teaching and focused instruction...after so many tourments, yes I had my butt kicked too... 3rd places at least as a prize for such deshonor...

  • @nandansho Excuse me, you may be a Sensei, but I do not believe you should be talking the way you are, "you need your ass kicked some more" that is NOT how a real Sensei should speak, this video is not about fighting, it is inaccurately named, it is a demonstration of Sensei Akihito Yagi, and Sensei Angelo Mendoza, I've had the pleasure of meeting them both, they don't mean harm to anybody, what you are doing is turning this video, a harmless demonstration, into a fight, that is a disgrace!

  • @FreeRunner5000 Regards Sensei

  • @andresnegro1 pardon me?

  • @nandansho: Just remember this before writing things down: I shall conduct myself in a manner which will reflect credit upon myself and society.

I shall be loyal to my school and to the art it teaches.

I shall be honest and exercise integrity with the purpose of developing cooperation and trust with my fellow karate-ka and my teachers.

I shall exercise restraint in the use of my karate knowledge, employing it only in fair competition or in defense of my life, my family, or my country.

  • @andresnegro1 I'm very familiar with the Dojo Kun( My O'Sensei was the one that published it in the Pinnacle of Karate.) You're the one who violated it by trashing Sensei Angelo, I protected Goju Ryu and his honor by calling you on it. You also called Sensei Fat. Since I am a High ranking Shuri Ryu stylist and Competitor I have every right to call you out on your insults. Choki Motobu is who i respect and Honor(He tested Nahanchi in Bar fights) He trained O'Sensei and was a brute & true Artist.

  • @nandansho Since I have fought against Many Styles,, i am confident in stand-up on the ground in water or fighting Blind. . I don't make anything up I walk the walk paid my dues in Blood, and I am what Iam which is an accomplished stylist. Your words are BS shit talking and i'm done talking to a pretender. Enter your best student in ANY USKA match the Nationals or World and then you can talk. My Student won World in 04. My 1st teacher was Sifu Lee a student of Bruce Lee out of Seattle. OSU!

  • @nandansho haha you don't sound like a master at all, but I'm sure you get that comment all the time. What you are saying sounds like complete BS, I looked at some of your other comments, and you seem more like a thug than a martial artist, please don't say OSU anymore.

  • @nandansho : Ok, sorry for calling sensei Angelo "fat", alltough he's a little bit overweighted, be carefull with cardio desease & glycemia..., sorry for being to sincere on my comments...I didn't like the kumite demo...maybe more coordination for next demo...Kata / waza application could do better...Actually I´m approaching Goyu Ryu Dojo to start practicing along with my kids. Oss Sensei...

  • @nandansho Besides, I have very good friends practicing Goyu Ryu , Shito Ryu and Shotokan at international levels. I was just a good intention of critizisem...a good sensei would appreciate my hard comments. And yes I pissed off a few times when I knocked-out a few of my oponents....thougt they wouldn't wake up...

  • Great vid. I love Akihito's movement. And such controlled strength from Mendoza.

  • Absolute respect for the master(angola?) brillant technique and reverse back kick. anyone who has ever kumited properly would know this was a friendly match, look at the other sensei grinning during the fight. And if you have ever kumited a master, you can realize they are holding a lot back. don't ever challenge a karate master, kumite techniques are one thing, self defense is a whole other ball game. excellent demo.

  • @Arreis1122  haha. i learned new word-->kumited

  • @adiyyhatem hahahaha! nihongo deals with words differently, the present and past tense is not in the word itself. It's hard to express in english lol. so "kumited" gets the point across, i think you understood =)

  • the only bad thing about this vid as that it's in canada...

  • Parece dois caras brigadores de rua kkk

  • KUMITE SUCKS!!

  • @1987nsr , if you say that " kumite sucks" you shouldn't be logging in to a karate channel. Consider chess, hockey or something equally mild and up to your taste.

Karate is definitely not for you.

  • Shut the fuck up ur mouth u stupid canadian rat-brain asshole. I'm the 3-rd DAN and I'm training in the Russian Karate Federation under Sato Tetsuo leadership and I know for sure how to ACT. Anyhow we've been always fucking canadian assholes like u coz u r softies and will be like this forever ))) don't get mad this is reality just accept it ;)

  • @1987nsr, why is it so that people like you always cry foul after the first punch or kick,eh???

Judging by the way you talk I don't think you've ever taken a month of karate practice.

    Btw, I practice kyokushin...

  • Dudee, I ain't wanna argue or swear, I just tell u what is it indeed. Man if u r practice kokushinkay then why ur master fights like pussy? Even this master (Shito ryu) on a video makes a lot of mistakes in his kata and his fight sucks either. Anyhow, fuck it up man- :)) just keep doing what u were...

  • @1987nsr One thing expect out of a 3rd dan is gentlemanly behavior. Don't see anything of the sort here.

  • URAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    SEARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    AIGAHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • Love the guy just chillin' on the elliptical up there. Must be an awesome view

  • d+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

  • @Shaolinkungfucat You fags dance around with your pretty batons and collapse at first hit. Sure, it's flashy, but it has absolutely no practical application whatsoever. Eat a dick

  • @Shaolinkungfucat You're probably describing yourself, not karate!!!

  • O dam, you can tell the goju dude as soon as he steps onto the floor. Breathing, locking of the tondin. Blending the hard soft. But the other dude.. Weak

  • I am 6'3 140lbs

I Strike with lots of power

Which martial art is best for me?

  • @GarrettandSean Muay Thai

  • @BradsBrotherStu 6'3, he's really tall, Muy Thai required Elbows and knees, its really hard for a tall guy like him to move those part. I suggest Karate

  • @GarrettandSean you should try Goju Ryu. i have taken that style before. its not a flashy style. there is a lot of power involved in it.

  • @GarrettandSean it depends would u rather a kick sum1s ass in a slug fest or immobilize so they can't fight back then nock em out? it realy depends wat do u wanna do

  • @MrNayfframpo styles do not defeat styles. Fighters win,not his style. Either way,its petty way of thinking attempting to look down on other fighting forms or say which is best. That is not what the martial arts is for.

  • "Boards don't hit back."

    Master Lee

  • Karate is for fat American kids who can't walk a mile without dying from exhaustion.

Karate is for Martial Arts wannabes and Chuck Norris Fanboys who like to waste all of their energy moving like a monkey before getting knocked out by a real martial artist.

    It is rigid and gay.

  • @Shaolinkungfucat wow...so you know sooo many things about karate and martial arts......why are you telling us this.....if you don't like karate then don't tell us because we don't give a damn to what you like or don't and if you think that karate is gay then you are a fucking lesbian.......fat lesbian.....

  • @cata112233

    lolololol

  • @Shaolinkungfucat it is true what they say, empty heads have long tongues.

  • WSL lineage Wing Chun is also called the Gentlemen's Way of Fighting. Because after they destroy you, they are still all clean and tidy and ready to go to the clubs.

  • @Shaolinkungfucat Lets see your Wing Chun videos bro-ham

  • never noticed before, but shito ryu is a lot more like kung fu than goju ryu, or shotokan. Not trying to insult anyone, just my opinion. Is that a fact that shito ryu uses more of the older movements than the other styles?

  • @veshkeat i ment goju ryu, not shito ryu. Goju ryu looks more like kung fu

  • both of them are laosy

  • oh I don't know why they're even called ''sensei''. their technique is absolutely off. both in kata and in kumite. the average 6.kyu would do it in a better way.

  • shit-oh (oh shit ryu) ryu vs. go jew ryu LMAO the funny part was go jew ryu because hes a jew going to do ryu right? whatever which one was funnier oh shit ryu or go jew ryu LOL no i mean shit oh ryu....also in french, is shit au ryu which means shit by ryu chito ryu and goju ryu. me i find GO-JEW ryu is the best one

  • the kata is very bad...

  • @babyfeve

yep the kata is the tournament one not the traditional anyway i ddnt like the movement is like a robot it lacks off feeling

  • opinions and assholes.

  • Not everyone who complains is a fat novice. I wouldn't criticize Higaonna's kata because I don't like his tempo or I don't think they're not showy enough, but these guys are clearly sub-par. They gave brown-belt kata performances in this video - that's being generous.

  • kabal vs darius lol mortal kombat rocks

  • i took goju ryu for a awhile years and years ago. i got green belt with 1 mark from brown. i won a lot of events with (for give my spelling and poor knowlage this again was a long time ago) kakeaka kne bon?

  • easily done just one board break

  • DA HADUKEI RYU!

  • it sounds like hes saying asshole at 7:35

  • 8:07 lolz that was a tomoe nagae

  • The apparent goju kata has VERY high kicks and is not like goju by appearance. The kumite is low standard sports based and as for a HUGE guy beaking a 1" pine board WOW, I could drop one on the floor and it would break!

  • for some of u commenters out there. i have personal knowledge of Sensei Angelo Mendoza. i attended his Dojo until blue belt. Angelo IS relaxed in the kumite. He is a very intense individual and has very strong opinion of his Shito background. when it comes down to it he lives Bushido. This was a fun demonstration by Sensei Angelo while visiting the Goju dojo. i know not of Sensei Yagi Akihto, but imagine he also holding back. good katas and kumite. liked the tai jutsu demo.

  • haha someone on the treadmill watching the fight at the top

  • OSO!

  • The commentary here is just sad. Which is better? This is like cousins at a family dinner being compared to each other to see which one is better. Family rivalaries are aways disfunctional. Secondly, neither man is a good representation of the full scope of either art. Therefore, you are looking at one man vs. another in what seems to be a friendly match. There is no comparison to be made here.

  • which one is Shito-ryu and which one is Goju ryu?

  • @bakagundum12 First one's Shito, second one's Goju

  • Boards dont hit back.

  • Comment removed

  • Also, anyone else see the throat strikes by Akihito that could have incapacitated the other guy easily at both 3:49 and 3:55, I think that shocked him!

    Peace :)

  • @gronygroovy Come on man. It's extremely obvious from your comments that you're biased towards this Akihito for some reason. You're either a student of his or a Goju practitioner. There was nothing wrong with the way the other guy was fighting. He was clearly the better fighter.

  • Anyone else think that for a "friendly" sparring match that the Shito guy is a little bit....aggressive? That kick at 4:11 isn't "friendly at all. Watch how calm and smiley Sensei Yagi Akihito is throughout this "friendly" show. Personally, I applaude Sensei Yagi Akihito for not losing his cool as Angelo Medoza is clearly in agressive-mode and wanted a full-on fight! ONE of the many reasons I love Goju-Ryu Karate-do :)

  • @gronygroovy: I'm going to have to agree with Thrillcekr. The Goju man's fighting intent was not as strong as the Shito man's and I would say that many more of the Shito-Ryu guy's strikes would've landed had there been more contact. I'm not knocking either style, but I think the winner is fairly obvious.

And while you applaud Sensei Akihito for his lightheartedness, I on the other hand think he could've taken it more seriously.

  • All I know is....Jet lee whoosp the shit out of a bunch of karate guys in Fist of legend. LMAO

  • Годзю-рю рулит

  • This is Goju? I don't think so. Load of crap. Looks like westernised bullshit! Kata is just average, however, my blue belts can do better. What's with all the bouncing around as well???

  • Machida karate FTW

  • I know there are many styles, but honestly, when they spar, it all tends to look very similar, though I'm sure there are differences a well trained eye can see.

  • @jjhaywood

    These styles are similar.

But traditional Shotokan is totally different than from traditional Goju ryu.

    Different randori/ sparing.

Some similar things but the attitude is different.

You can find high level in both styles but they usually look different.

  • @SenseiEli thats really good to know. I practiced karate for 12 years and obtained a Nidan rank, but left because I felt the style's emphasis was too much on brute force (I'm only 150 lbs). I struggled with physically stronger opponents. Later, I started Wing Chun and my sparring improved dramatically in just 6 months, so did my confidence! Thats when I realized how important it is to choose a system that fits the body type. Probably Shito would have been better for me? (Or better teachers?)

  • @jjhaywood

I think that it is very important that a Sensei/Sifu or any other teacher of martial arts will guide his students to understand their way in the martial arts field.

Of course a stronger faster with superior technic and spirit will be a better fighter.

But most of us can't be good in all these aspects so we should try to improve all of them but understand our body.

If you got to Nidan" and left I think somethings were just not right for you there.

  • @jjhaywood

I am happy to hear that you found your way and kept on training in a martial art.

It might be. Another Sensei or a more suited system might have done it.

I myself left Krav maga for Goju Ryu.

I think that there are very good aspects in Krav Maga, But Goju ryu for me has much more to give me.

  • @jjhaywood I am 130lb. Short, small (but I didn't say weak). What karate style do you think is best for me?

  • fortress vs fortress

  • too much ippon, not enough bunkai. what's with the bouncy shit? how embarrassing.

  • @rgreggus dumbass, if u stay planted on the ground its harder to move and you would get your ass kicked

  • bouncing tends to create a rhythm in the person, so techniques can only be executed when weight is coming down & tensioning the muscles. absolutely USELESS for actual combat. great for sport and boxing, but still embarrassing when put on your ass outside the dojo/ ring.

  • No, bouncing does not create rhytm. The idea is to constantly change your rhytm and movement so your attacks are harder to predict and harder to read. Static traditonal karate is to easily read, your attacks won't be able to hit your opponent. Many competitors however overdo the bouncing. You have to be light on your feet, however you still need to keep your balance. The traditional shuffling movement, I do not know how else to say it, however is equally as bad because of predictabilty.

  • @aiyer1989 I agree...movement should be about not getting hit and/or landing well placed blows. It can also be used to set up an opponent...deceit is the name of the game :) A good fighter is one who lies with every movement!

  • @ohmgbrownies exactly.

  • HEY! THATS Giryu FROM "KURO OBI"!

  • @TonyPstunts oh shit you're right!

  • they are coaches not players and the difference between the two schools

(Shito Ryu and Goju Ryu ) exists in the kata not in kumite ,in kumite there are differences in styles from player to another and doesn't matter what is his school if I am wrong please tell me

  • @enta3omry293

Kumite style depends on the rules of engagement. "Kumite" is not the name for a self defense fight, but for a training match. There are kumite competitions, but they are for fun or for full time athletes. Therefore, you can see that all karateka, regardless the style, fight the same way at a given tournament, according to strategies that fit the rules, and personal preferences that also ft the rules..

    I hope this helps.

  • Ok. Anybody that thinks this is a full match, must learn the meaning of friendly sparring. This is not meant to be like a competition.

Goju ryu is not fancy kicks, that leaves you open, but more devastating retaliation. They did not go out to make each other lose. It was for fun, and for people to see a few techniques.

Anybody that thinks anything else is a fool, and has no idea about karate. These guys are professionals.

  • @vanhite Agreed 100% Karate is not about showing off or about beating another master or even a fellow student, it definitely isn't about belts or trophies. Karate is...well it's Karate, any practitioner will know what I mean. Karate is a martial art and a philosophy.

  • @johnm543 that is a horrible explanation. I can't believe 22 people agreed with you. Well, given the state of schools and society, I guess I can see how 22 would agree...

  • @kenfo0 my intention was not to educate you, I am not a teacher. If you don't understand what I said then you must not be a karateka. Here you go then. Karate is a martial art intended for defense of one's self and those close to you, It is not about trophies or stupid contests. 22 people agreed with me because they like me understand this. So don't insult them or me in your educational frustration. The state of schools is, they are under funded and society is misguided and short sighted.

  • @johnm543 You are a childish imbecile who does not understand what it means to be a karateka. The most glaring clue to you SHOULD be that you need "22 people" to agree with you...not the sign of a karateka, but a sissified nancy-boy DESPERATELY grasping for approval. Back to square 1 for you.

  • @kenfo0 Wow you must have some sort of personal problem with me LOL. First again it was not my intention to say I understand anything to do with Karate. I also had no need or knowledge of 22 people having agreed to me until you said something about it. And as for the "sissy nancy-boy" comment, that seems to stem from your own need to prove your "toughness" or "manliness" I however believe that mine is secure enough that I have no need to prove it. If you don't like my opinions don't read them.

  • @johnm54You are arrogantly stupid yet persistent....that's one crappy combo you've got going on. Again, you know nothing about being a kareteka, nor do your 22 fanboys. You are one of the latest generation of loud sissies who try to turn everything into dramatics. You are an insecure sissy. I don't call you a sissy, or stupid, out of the blue. It is based on your views. For example, how does one "not like" an opinion UNTIL one reads it? Yeah, brilliant comment, retard. Stop your whining.

  • @vanhite Thank you very much for answering my question before I even asked (a whole year before, apparently).

  • total amaters are these people

  • Sad, it seems that even Karate Do instructors are being filled with their own lies.

To call yourself a SHIHAN and have this kind of technique, what would the students look like?

No idea of speed, power & coordination. And the kumite!!!! even 10 year olds have more ideas on how to fight! even if it is friendly kumite!!

    From Wikipidia:

Shihan (師範?) is a Japanese term, often used in Japanese martial arts as an honorific title for expert or senior instructors. None of which are shown here:)

  • Were the heck does someone have to go in the USA to learn the best karate? I mena what is the best of uechi ryu, goju and kyokushin?

  • @Mider999 if you whant to learn heavy fighting i would suggest kyokushin

  • er... no, seriously.... even if u try to make excuses, i still believe that this kata SHOULD be performed much better given his rank... check other videos of shito ryu seipai on youtube and 'feel' the difference

  • Lol youtube comments always fails! Everyone who criticized are most likely fat obese novices!

  • @Supercucu123 Who exactly won the friendly match? I ask because at this moment that im typing this im having a migrane or something

  • @Supercucu123 "waaaaahhhh! anyone who doesn't agree with me is fat and stupid!". You pathetic , weak loser. nice job "supercuts123"

  • @kenfo0 Obvious troll is obvious.

  • @Supercucu123 you are the troll, whining that anyone who doesn't agree w/you is fat and stupid. Now shut up and think on that, fatso.

  • @Supercucu123 yeah and ur a fake martial artist wait i had something funny to write. take it easy sleazy!!!!!!!!!!
