  • I heard from a reliable source that once Reb Shmuel was late for his Friday night shabbos meal and his wife was concerned that the soup would cool off. So Reb Shmule then composed this tune for Sholom Aleichem (which is always song or said preceding the meal) a tune with a fast beat!

  • This song is called, Shalom Aleichem. It was composed by Rabbi Shmuel Brazil and first appeared on his Regesh "Shabbos" album.

We sing Shalom Aleichem at the start of the Friday night meal. This tune is one of the more popular renditions of it.

Avraham Fried, very often would include this song to start his concerts. Shalom Aleichem basically is a welcoming song for the angels Friday night and is also used as a way of welcoming people.

  • In English we greet one another with, How are you?

In Hebrew we greet one another with, Shalom Aleichem, which means, Peace onto you. And the responder say's, Aleichem Shalom, Onto you peace as well.
