This makes me hopeful that our schools production will come out as well as this one has. Ill be in my first 3 hour long musical this year, and were doing the high school or original or...whatever version it is for Once Upon a Mattress. How many hours a day did you use to memorize your lines?

there was no band music in here. It seemed very bland and awkward without a piano, flute, drums, and violin backing up the singers. Dauntless didn't seem very sad that another princess failed. And everyone else weren't really sympathizing him. Everyone wasn't desperate enough for another princess. Not a very good version....

they cant help it if they dont have a band and only a recording. This doesnt exactly look like a high-budget peformance, so dont be over-judgmental. Although, i do agree with you on the actual state of the actors' performance . . .

why do the show if you have to change the lines? it takes away from the show humor.

Ok. We bought the play as the MIDDLE SCHOOL version considering we were in MIDDLE SCHOOL. WE DID NOT CHANGE THE LINES. That is the way it was in the script, can't help that.

No, the song was rewritten greatly, as in a lot. Not as in it was a great rewrite.

Dauntless didn't seem to undertsnad the motivation behind his character... and he didn't incorporate acting and song together at all.

Your lyrics and lines are different from what I'm used to- what version is this?

Seems to me this was re-written greatly. "Why must every princess get the bird" -> "be deterred" to avoid the "the bird" joke - the "none of the ladies give a fig for living in sin" removed for a similar reason. The whole "no one is getting any - younger" line is rewritten. I guess you need to do this these days, but then why do the show at all if you can't do the show?

The problem with schools rewriting scripts, as I so often find, is that by changing only f lines, you throw of the balance of the script- the original dialogue was chosen carefully. The song lost some of its potential when the words were unbalanced.

The thing is, there are a LOT of shows you can do which require no rewriting at all. This number is built on a foundation of (1) The queen won't let the prince marry, so (2) no one can marry, so (3) everyone is horny. If you can't do that and instead you rewrite, the whole edge of the song is lopped off and you're left with a nice song that doesn't really drive the exposition like it needs to - what with Larkin pregnant and all. It's sad it upsets the balance of the show.

YEAH, but you could have said something else besides, my play was better! you could have elaborated more like u said in your reply comment. and the only reason i was rude is because you were rude. that's my "opinion" on what you said and you can't change someone's opinion

Well, you can change opinions if you try. I music direct shows and I can see/hear a lot of flaws, but the important things are if the cast and crew had a good time preparing the best show they could, and if the audience felt it was worth it to see it, and I'm judging you succeeded on both counts.
