Guthrie too, but Guthrie hasn't done anywhere near as much as Kiko or Bucket. Especially Buckethead, his discography is monstrous and the best part is that he is always changing things up while sill being himself. I have said this many times before, but he has played over 20 genres and written music in all of them. He is a true genius and sadly underrated.
I listen to Air every day. It's just the most incredible guitar performance I've ever heard. I really wish he had recorded a guitar version of Serrena because that's my all-time favorite composure of his.

Cacophony - Images should have been on the top ten too. JB was phenomenal on that song so was Friedman. If I remember correctly I think Jason said that song was inspired by the composer Claude Debussy.
No Temple of the Absurd!!!! What!? I know its hard to pick just ten of his best solos...But come on! IMO it's one of the best songs off of Perpetual Burn. Also Burn the Ground has an amazing solo by Jason. Check them out if you haven't heard those two. Good list though, I thought those two would be in the top ten.
Great list (although as others have said Ninja in Marty !). I would have put Desert Island and Jewel (intro solo) on there too. Jewel = most epically beautiful solo ever.
Eleven Blue Egyptians at first reminds me of space travel and aliens....then I start thinking about R-Type or Gradius when he really gets into the solo.
Its a real shame he got ALS. He's one of the best if not the best guitarists Ive ever heard. There are countless mindless shredders, but very few of them know how to make something worthwhile with that ability. Jason played incredibly fast but while he did he could keep tons of emotion in his music.
Now that I hear it, it could be, but it sounds bery much like Becker's style as opposed to Marty's, but I can here a switch when the second solo comes up around 3:30.
and yeah the Ninja is definitely Marty Friedman. And Speed Metal Symphony sounds like a mixture of both, people give jason WAY too much credit for Speed Metal Symphony. Watching it live it's amazing how much Marty shreds in it. Not bashing on Jason, but people forget the beast that is Marty when ever Cacophony is brought up.
yeah...becker is like a Beethoven...not point of camparison with friedman in that way..not because he's better...just because friedman is more focused on oriental and exotic deal...i prefer Friedman, but becker is cool too..and twhen they play together they are a big deal.
Technically Becker is soloing in there too. Honestly though, it is REALLY hard to differentiate between the two when they do this, especially when they layer 4 or 5 guitars over each other.
I find it rather easy to tell the differance. I mean if it helps at all marty's guitar just sonds cleaner and has a less "electric tone" Jason has alot of pick attack and you can here the string noise and his tone is more crunchy. ha. the truth is marty and jason are both playing all the solos from caphony in this video except concerto, marty is just strict rythm there.
are you sure that marty is stricly rhythm in Concerto? because all the leads except for the beginning have Marty Friedman all over them. It's his classic sweep patterns and leads everywhere.
yeah. this solo is jason mostly. there are ohter parts where marty takes a lead. their guitar playing is very different. you can here when marty plays it sounds cleaner, jason has like a heavy pick hand and you can here it. im not saying either style is better its just how you can tell the differance.

The whole songs are solos XD I can't include the entire song, so I isolated the most impressive/dramatic/climatic part of it. Some I had to cut at seemingly awkward times cause if I didn't it would run into the next run of solos, and that usually took up too much time.
i don't mean to call you an idiot, and i know what you mean about the whole songs being solos, but if you study it, you'll be able to isolate the solos from the comositions...
Yeah, I can't say I'm a big listener of Becker, so that would have probably helped. Sometimes I also like to include bits of composition just for the effect.
I think DigitalDreamDoor did a fine job of picking them. Such a sad story what happened to this guy. He truly is an inspiration. If only I could play half that good...
Jason is pretty boss but in this era there is only one... ANDY JAMES!!! Hes like all my fav guitar players put together.

yeah. this solo is jason mostly. there are ohter parts where marty takes a lead. their guitar playing is very different. you can here when marty plays it sounds cleaner, jason has like a heavy pick hand and you can here it. im not saying either style is better its just how you can tell the differance.

The whole songs are solos XD I can't include the entire song, so I isolated the most impressive/dramatic/climatic part of it. Some I had to cut at seemingly awkward times cause if I didn't it would run into the next run of solos, and that usually took up too much time.

Yeah, I can't say I'm a big listener of Becker, so that would have probably helped. Sometimes I also like to include bits of composition just for the effect.
