However you will surely point out that the contradiction remains, only in his words, not mine. I think he is being intentionally paradoxical, or else simply using the expression, which is common enough.
Billy Joel is Jewish, which may/may not be hard to believe if you consider he also made "Only The Good Die Young." As for who it's about, it could be for his first wife, who he might have been dating at the time since they got married in 1972. It's like "Just The Way You Are," in that they're both about a woman who Billy Joel is pretty much sick of at this point.
Why do you always have to influence people's song. If that were true the song will have a sexual connotation. Forgive me, but his is some amazing kind of stretch. I've worked as a church musician my whole life, and I've seen some incredible twisting and pushing to get a round peg Pop Song into the "square peg" that is Church Music (indeed, Martin Luther asked, "why should the Devil have all the good tunes?") U do know there is no source either scriptural or otherwise that ever documents she gave up her Jewish faith as she followed her Son. Catholic Satellite Radio station has a show dedicated to people calling in with secular songs explaining how a particular songs speaks to them in a spiritual way. Whether Billy's song is about Mary or not, it always could be.
You should do an interpretation of the Beatles' (rather Paul McCartney's) "Let It Be." It is incredibly relavant to Mary. It is especially true since this song is based on a dream McCartney had of his own deceased mother coming to him w/ "words of wisdom." Mebbe the Blessed Virgin dispatched his mother to speak to McCartney on her behalf?

religion gives people the excuse to organize, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. but you have to wonder which would dominate if religion doesn't exist. i'd love to think the good would still organize where the bad would fall short, but i'm not that naive. one is much easier than the other.

Religion does not cause these things. People do. People who wish to control others gain power in a powerful group - any group (religious, corporate, political, union, education, etc.) and then use their power to control and abuse. Religion is the vehicle of bad people, it is not the cause of anything.

i can't prove God exists, but aren't there many wonderful things about religion too? As for science, God and science operate in harmony. Many Atheists became the way they are because for too long Christians took the Genesis story as literal history. It was never intended that way when Christianity came about---the best way to understand the Bible is through metaphor... after all, the Bible was inspired by God but WRITTEN by men. Belief in God is the only way to explain the meaning of life. I say that as an independent thinker, not only as a Christian. I chose this song for my beautiful older sister's funeral who committed suicide aged 35 after a long battle with paranoid schizophrenia. It describes her completely and this video comforts me as I now think she is in a better place. As for who it's about, it could be for his first wife, who he might have been dating at the time since they got married in 1972. Why do you always have to influence people's song. If that were true the song will have a sexual connotation. Not from an attraction stand point but definitively from a rapport stand point. i seriously doubt an image can inspire that. Forgive me, but his is some amazing kind of stretch. I've worked as a church musician my whole life, and I've seen some incredible twisting and pushing to get a round peg Pop Song into the "square peg" that is Church Music (indeed, Martin Luther asked, "why should the Devil have all the good tunes?") However, this is just too much. This is a beautiful love song. One any woman would die to have sung to her or about her. I suppose Mary would love it as well, if Joseph played the piano.

It is no I who suggest this, it is God in His word through His prophet Zephaniah. I gave you the narrow quote from Zeph. 3: 17. The full quote begins in Zeph. 3:14, & onto 3: 20. "Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad & rejoice w/ all thy heart, O daughter of Jerusalem" (3: 14).
It is the RSV that speaks of singing festivals for this "Daughter of Zion."

Christmas wasn't officially celebrated until the early 1800s, whereas it has been a pagan tradition for many centuries to bring in trees and plants, in celebration of the persistance of life even in the hardest parts of winter. And don't even get me started on Easter... are you trying to say collecting eggs is Christian?

In early Christianity, the Romans called Christian people healers, because they were "clerics." The sacraments of communion, confession etc. were present to heal the human soul and human heart. The Greek word for sin, hamartia, simply means missing the mark. It wasn't until the 10th or 11th century that sin came to signify a need for punishment (in my opinion, not good theology).

Good would still conquer over evil, but the point of the church and organization is to facilitate love and goodness (e.g. outreach to the poor and heal the soul whhen it goes off track--for the churchh acknowledges that no one is perfect)

i can't prove God exists, but aren't there many wonderful things about religion too? I'll agree that a lot of awful things have happened within the church, but through religion people feed the poor, protect the homeless, heal the sick (e.g. Catholic hospitals), give people a second chance in life even if they have messed up; furthermore, a lot of beautiful music exists because of religion and the church. It was never intended that way when Christianity came about---the best way to understand the Bible is through metaphor... after all, the Bible was inspired by God but WRITTEN by men. I chose this song for my beautiful older sister's funeral who committed suicide aged 35 after a long battle with paranoid schizophrenia. It describes her completely and this video comforts me as I now think she is in a better place. This world can be a cruel place sometimes but I try to think that everything happens for a reason - even though that reason may not always be apparent at the time. Evolution takes much on blind faith.Darwin said advantageous traits came by genetic mutations.Maybe that's correct, but there is not one example of a genetic mutation producing an adv trait.He claims that organisms observed adv traits in others & so desired to reproduce with them.Consider sight?How does an organism without sight understand what sight is let alone that it is adv?How did life evolve from non-life?Etc.Evolution can't explain the complexities of living things(which was its purpose).

A house is not infinite. So another being that is also not infinite can make it. It merely travels to that which is beyond itself.
The universe is without end (including all its parts). A being that is limited then could not make them. Only an infinite being could make it.
