@hawk860 yeah, you would have surely done better...
to be on pole in an f1 race, any f1 race you have to be pretty much perfect and that is just an example of the level you have to be at to be on pole. so for that season and that race it is pretty much a perfect lap!
@h1coupe i respect what you say.F1 is competative and i did say its a stunning lap but once he corected oversteer from overenthusiastic throttle and thats 2-3 tenths right there and he nailed every apex perfectly but if he would ride the kerb more aggressively like alonso, hamilton or vettel (theres more) he would get another tenth or 2 but i guess thts his smooth driving style tht conservers tyres rather that raw pace,it is indeed perfect in some respects bt i prefer drivers tht just go all out
Now this video should be shown to the people that have denied Button his rights by stating him as "sluggish, catious" etc. For a driver with not the fastest car in 06' to produce a stunning lap like that is remarkable. Show this to all of the Button haters of the world.
Martin brundle was a good driver and is a good commentator. During his days b4 f1 he fought with some f1 drivers too.. Guess he didnt have a good car or so.
@GTAstuntz Martin did have a very good car with the Benetton B192, but unfortunately his team-mate was wait for it.... Michael Schumacher and during that season I think he retired in the first 4 gp's but was a very reliable driver during the middle and end of the season. But that was really the pinnacle of the cars he drove at the time and harshly got "kicked out" of Benetton the next season.
that honda car in 2006 if it was reliable could of been a championship winning car, had the pace just not the reliability, but lets not dwell on the past, the best driver on the grid jenson button alongside the best team principal in the paddock Ross Brawn = winning race and winning championships
lol, is there no repeated coverage in the US? That's what happens here in England, if the race is early in the morning, it's repeated later in the day.
I was just playing this track on f1 ce . And I always struggled at turn 13. after watching this video I realized I was taking it wrong, thanks jenson :D .
The Brawn team (last years Honda team) is looking like a real contender after maintaining the fastest laps by a margin of half a second and more for the last few days of testing at Jerez. I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the private teams win some races, I fully expect Force India to be running in the middle of the pack this year.
If you have the speed channel, they cover most of it. Unfortunately for me, I'm in the states and it takes place around midnight, but I'll still be watching :)
Geez...the more I watch these onboard clips the more and more respect I feel for these guys.
Any idiot who tells you their skills and bravery are overvalued and that they don't deserve thei salaries is an idiot. Boy kicking around a football are two a penny...these men are HEROES!
i say have jenson in a renault or something instead of piquet, don't think you can have 2 #1 drivers in mclaren.. like 07 and we all know how that turned out.. lol
... but yes SOMEONE BUY HONDA ALREADY!..or alteast announce it earlier!!.. don't want 18 cars on the grid.. that's boring
haha from what i've been reading .. i don't think they have.. looks like it's gonna be a last minute buy and a last minute engine integration, who knows what the balance of the car is gonna be like w/o having tested the drivability of it let alone what random company the power train is gonna come from sigh* what are we fans to do now?
It's cool how Brundle points out all the challenges of this circuit, lets the viewer what the driver has to do. And he also explains why this is such a great lap to deserve pole. We don't get this kind of detail in the Australian broadcast.
For all that's said and done, no true F1 supporter can claim Jenson is rubbish.....in a good car he's perfect, in a bad car he's good..........Jenson WILL win the WDC, and watching this lap again, my confidence in him remains............
Well, I hope so too. In 2004 and 2006, I think, Honda was really competitive. Jenson was able to compete with Fernando and Montoya. It would be awesome if Honda were to be at the top.
Yeah I said that too, BIG Ron should of given Jenson a chance, But then would Jenson leave Honda, He is just so dedicated to that team for his own good and I feel now he is gonna miss a chance to become a World Champion, but who knows with big Ross at the Helm !!!
That was one awesome lap, I dont think ive ever seen a lap quite like this before, really brought tears to my eyes it did and that has never happened, beautiful !!!!!
Better than 2007's 'Earth Car' too. That paint job looked like gorilla sick and the car was abysmal. Wonder what the new livery is going to look like now they've lost the Lucky Strike sponsorship?
hmmm,i dunno,if honda sort it out they're good as we saw in 2006. But wen he came out and planted it on pole here,i thought it was his year, tbf he outscored everoyne post hungary.Rob
Exactly. I really wanted him with Mclaren in 2008, it would've been a perfect fit. If it wasn't for crap-ass Honda holding him back he would have Heikki's seat. Heikki is good, but I don't think he deserved the Mclaren seat. He had good moments in the season, like Montreal and his second place in Japan, and admittedly the R27 sucked, but he was a good driver in a bad car, and he got lucky in Japan. Next season, Hamilton will outclass him completely.
mclaren cant have 2 british drivers cos they need to keep the sponsors happy. they were desperate for rosberg cos hes german and they have a german engine
Button is a good driver, but not a great one. i doubt he will ever become world champion but he deserves to win a few more grand prixs and this qualifing lap suggests just that
wrong - button will win it one day. the ability is there, always has been, just a case of the car... i honestly think if he'd got the seat at mclaren instead of heikki, think jenson would have been world champ and not lewis hamilton.
maybe you're all right, i would like button to be champion but he has to find a way of proving your theory by getting into a faster car or winning the championship with honda, but will he even be in an f1 car next year?? nothing is certain and he has stated in the past if honda doesnt win by next season he would rather retire than continue being the 2nd best english driver.
never mind the odds, and im not trying to be optimistic here either, but if jenson has a competitive car, he'll win the drivers championship - he really is that good!

hawk860 9 months ago
@hawk860 yes but he did get the pole, even though he does not have what you call the "all out" style.
and as you correctly stated he does safe tires and car when he drives, which makes his style excellent.
in that race there were all out drivers and he still got the pole.
those 2-3tenths gained on a single lap can easily disappear when tires start to fade :)
your point is valid though:)
personally I like a style that´s inbetween, kinda like Schumacher(actually my favorite)
