The problem with this kind of movie is that guys who grew up with these 80's shows is that they have been put on a podium when really these shows were dumb and kids only liked them because they were kids.

Holy crap... the amount of things gone wrong here is ATROCIOUS!!!! They got all the storylines all wrong... especially concerning connections between characters... this movie had its script laid out in a hundred different ways from the proper source material (ie THE COMICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). As soon as they said Stephen Sommers was directing it.... I gave up 95% of my hope that this movie wouldn't practically be Uwe Boll'd. I will not rest until I create a film to right this wrong!

The 1st one with Shia was a classic, 2nd one is a "Like-It-Or-Hate-It" film.
Either way, Transformers will always be superior to films like G.I. Joe, which I haven't seen but am iffy at the moment about it.
I'm okay with popcorn movies having bad acting as long as there's some good action & I don't feel like it insulted my intelligence too much (since every action movie does that even if it's well-done).
Ehh...the first Transformers had the 'Sarah Palin Effect' on its side. It was an okay movie that should have only been a good Michael Bay movie. For the second...love it or hate it is a bit too broad. It was a movie you had to go into with the right mindset. If you expected it to be good by normal standards, you'd be sorely dissapointed. If you judged it by Michael Bay standards, then it was fun as hell to see, what with the explosions, robot fights, and slow-motion Megan Fox.

First Transformers was able to appeal to various people & not come as too laughable while still being dumb cool fun.
All Michael Bay films require a certain mindset. The only problem I have with Transformers is that Megan Fox isn't hot & she can't act. But yeah, Transformers 2 was boring for the first half then made up for it in the 2nd half with tons of cool action although it didn't outdo the first which was surprising
It was only considered good because the bar was set lower than the stick at an Anorexic Limbo competition.
It had plenty of problems if you looked at the plot for more than a few seconds, countless stupid reasons to bring in comic relief characters, etc. I could go on, but there's a character limit.
Transformers 2 made the mistake of thinking that it could be a 'real' movie with 'plot'. And that 'tons of cool action' isn't anything we haven't seen before. Final fight was anticlimactic.
I agree. Most Bay films take themselves somewhat seriously but not to where it can't be fun at all but PEARL HARBOR & TRANSFORMERS 2 both took themselves way too seriously to where it was a joke. My sister cried when Optimus Prime died & I laughed because there was no reason to care.

But that ia our point, it shouldn't have been. The toys, cartoon, comic book were made in the 80's. The "kisa" that were watching it are in their late 20's an 30's. It is PG13 so not exactly a kid movie.
I only wish to see this film because of Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in Star Wars: Phantom Menace & was in other Action/ SciFi films like X-MEN and BALLISTIC: ECKS VS. SEVER.

George Lucas said the same thing about the Star Wars franchise, specifically the new movies. Those movies also featured graphic decapitation, dismemberment, and murder of children. Transformers 2 included thousands of deaths, a man being cut in half, and one of our 'protagonists' executing a wounded and helpless enemy with a shot to the head. GI Joe was about the same.

I liked that it had a lot of action in it. It was, i guess old-school, storyline. Acting could have been better for a few of the actors, but I loved it. Special effects were great too. Can't wait for the sequel.

We had a blast laughing at the shitty acting & dialogue. But the action scenes we're definitely great too. We had more fun with this than Transformers 2 (i fell asleep an hour into it, alien robots are boring now)

As a kid, I loved the GI Joe team. I had all the action figures, loved the cartoon series, and collected the amazing comic books. But when I saw the trailer for this movie, the first thought that came to mind was, "There's no way in hell I'm paying to see this piece of shit."

No GIJOE is not worse than Transformers. It is better for sure. And by the way,it has only made 100 million so far- total and cost 170 million to make. It needs to make about 200+ to break even so it is hardly a success. But thank you for sharing your opinion, always welcome here!

I understand what you mean about the comic books having much more depth and plot. I remember the original G.I. Joe comic books and action figures. Though the movie might not have followed the comic books to the T as far as plot goes, I do believe it stayed close enough to the original to at least make sense and give a decent storyline. In my opinion this movie stayed closer to the original plot than DBE which sucked complete ASS!!!
I only read a few of the comics which were way cooler than the cartoon I agree. I think the comic fans are dissapointed because it is not an adaption of the comic book story...I can understand that but you poor saps are totally missing out in letting that ruin it for you. The movie is way cooler than the cartoon ever was though. Crazy action, ridiculous weapons and vehicles, explosions, ninja fights..it's also basically the cartoon plot only instead of MASS or weatherdominator... nanomites.

great review, my bottles my mind is why critics are using lines to speak well of this movie when those lines could be applied to Transformers as well( a movie they hated). For example when they say "just turn off your brain and have fun. yet this same critic loathed transformers. Seems to me they are the same kind of film except Sommers is a bootleg version of Bay. Depends on what Transformers you're talking about.
The 1st one with Shia was a classic, 2nd one is a "Like-It-Or-Hate-It" film.
Either way, Transformers will always be superior to films like G.I. Joe, which I haven't seen but am iffy at the moment about it.
I'm okay with popcorn movies having bad acting as long as there's some good action & I don't feel like it insulted my intelligence too much (since every action movie does that even if it's well-done).
It will either be decent or crapola

Ehh...the first Transformers had the 'Sarah Palin Effect' on its side. It was an okay movie that should have only been a good Michael Bay movie. For the second...love it or hate it is a bit too broad. It was a movie you had to go into with the right mindset. If you expected it to be good by normal standards, you'd be sorely dissapointed. If you judged it by Michael Bay standards, then it was fun as hell to see, what with the explosions, robot fights, and slow-motion Megan Fox.

First Transformers was able to appeal to various people & not come as too laughable while still being dumb cool fun.
All Michael Bay films require a certain mindset. The only problem I have with Transformers is that Megan Fox isn't hot & she can't act. But yeah, Transformers 2 was boring for the first half then made up for it in the 2nd half with tons of cool action although it didn't outdo the first which was surprising

It was only considered good because the bar was set lower than the stick at an Anorexic Limbo competition.
It had plenty of problems if you looked at the plot for more than a few seconds, countless stupid reasons to bring in comic relief characters, etc. I could go on, but there's a character limit.
Transformers 2 made the mistake of thinking that it could be a 'real' movie with 'plot'. And that 'tons of cool action' isn't anything we haven't seen before. Final fight was anticlimactic.

I agree. Most Bay films take themselves somewhat seriously but not to where it can't be fun at all but PEARL HARBOR & TRANSFORMERS 2 both took themselves way too seriously to where it was a joke. My sister cried when Optimus Prime died & I laughed because there was no reason to care.
You're absolutely right. If they make another Transformers, it better be a 2 hour bullet-fest & not anymore eye candy or distracting plot

Granted, G.i. Joe wasn't as bad as the critics had made out but it still wasn't spectacular in anyway. Like Transformers 2, we had seen it all before but this time, it was just boring.
The only good thing about it was Snake Eyes who was always cool & played the Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in star wars & is a cool stuntman. He deserves credit for doing an awful movie like Joe

George Lucas said the same thing about the Star Wars franchise, specifically the new movies. Those movies also featured graphic decapitation, dismemberment, and murder of children. Transformers 2 included thousands of deaths, a man being cut in half, and one of our 'protagonists' executing a wounded and helpless enemy with a shot to the head. GI Joe was about the same.

The scene with The Eiffel Tower falling reminds me of Team America World Police. One of the greatest movies of all time btw.

I liked that it had a lot of action in it. It was, i guess old-school, storyline. Acting could have been better for a few of the actors, but I loved it. Special effects were great too. Can't wait for the sequel.

We had a blast laughing at the shitty acting & dialogue. But the action scenes we're definitely great too. We had more fun with this than Transformers 2 (i fell asleep an hour into it, alien robots are boring now)
The years best blockbuster is still Star Trek :D
Also i thought Channum Tatum was brilliant in "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" His only good performance to be honest :)

I understand what you mean about the comic books having much more depth and plot. I remember the original G.I. Joe comic books and action figures. Though the movie might not have followed the comic books to the T as far as plot goes, I do believe it stayed close enough to the original to at least make sense and give a decent storyline. In my opinion this movie stayed closer to the original plot than DBE which sucked complete ASS!!!

I only read a few of the comics which were way cooler than the cartoon I agree. I think the comic fans are dissapointed because it is not an adaption of the comic book story...I can understand that but you poor saps are totally missing out in letting that ruin it for you. The movie is way cooler than the cartoon ever was though. Crazy action, ridiculous weapons and vehicles, explosions, ninja fights..it's also basically the cartoon plot only instead of MASS or weatherdominator... nanomites.

BTW, comic book was for kids and there was some serious sh..going on. BTW...Ice Age, Toy Story, WALL E, Narnia, all for kids, they have a tone, good writing and characters are developed. It had potential to be more than just fun and that is the point, we want what made the orignial stuff fun, fun characers and storylines.

The movie is basically meant to sell toys to 10 year olds of today....if I was 10 that movie would make my head explode in ecstsy...well I still got plenty of 10 year old in me at age 33. It was great? I don't know JABD, we value opinions so whatver your poison is..enjoy. The plot, acting and the dialogue were atrocious. It has nothing to do with critical on this one, I (Kristian) enjoyed the action for sure and it was better than I thought BUT it could have been so much more, read the GIJOE comic books from the late 80's. You will see some hardcore stories in there. Storm shadow and Snake Eyes storyline was amazing character work.

great review, my bottles my mind is why critics are using lines to speak well of this movie when those lines could be applied to Transformers as well( a movie they hated). For example when they say "just turn off your brain and have fun. yet this same critic loathed transformers. Seems to me they are the same kind of film except Sommers is a bootleg version of Bay.
