This channel is awesome and I don't use that term lightly. I see it as a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and it looks beautiful... If they ever make a Fallout movie, they won't need sets, they can just shoot in location.
Fallout anyone? No but in all seriousness, this is just simply amazing, like If i was ever offered the chance to visit a place like that i would try to have so much fun, try to explore, and learn as much as I could! Its places like these I wish they would show on documentaries
Nowadays, it's rare to be able to change someone in the slightest, especially in regards to their thoughts and how they view the world. You, Mr. Riggs, change a lot of people with these videos.
Used to come here when younger. Somehow the whole place has an indeterminate, uncomfortable but very fascinating feeling about it...I can not compare it with any other place I've ever been to.
Leonard Knight isn't at Salvation Mountain anymore (taken to live at a hospital as his health was failing fast, last I heard), and the young man who was going to take care of it when he got too old is dead. Some parts have already been heavily damaged. Who knows what it will look like in a few years.
Hi, I just very recently found your page, and I know you probably already have more comments to your video that you are or will be able to read, and without fear of having my message lost in this sea or curious people's comments, I just wanted to say thank you. You touched me, and this has changed me a little. :)
Wow now this is a place I have to go in my life time. I have a sort of facination with deralict and post-apocoliptic things and this is just utterly intrueging and beautiful to me.
@Lauen324 Michael Jackson produced his music video "In the Closet" with Naomi Campbell at the Salton Sea. I have always been intrigued by the place, there's a nice view of it driving out I-10
@Scrabzord wait you guys were right, it doesn't, just when it was linked to me it said "&dicks=yes" and I realized... you can put anything at the end of a youtube link after an &.
Where did you find all this?!!?!? I was there last week and we couldnt find any of this stuff. We found a few old roads but a lot of new houses. Please reply!
@howlongmustIsingthis you seem to have been on the east side of the lake desert shores maybe? because i used to go with my parents to an old friends house in the 90s, i remember it so well i always got a strange feeling when we went, cant describe it, its now been about 10 years since ive been there but id like to go back now as an adult.
Wow, just incredible music in this film. I cant stop watching it honestly. It fits this desolate, dark, and post-apocalyptic setting extremely well. And your narration skills are great as well, very educational as well as entertaining short. Good work my friend and keep it up, its videos such as this that keep my motivation running to become a film maker
That was a really good video. I love your voice. I agree with others when they say that you should do documentaries or voiceovers in general. I had never even known about the salton sea before this. Very educational
Nice Video. There's an old lime factory in Eastern Oregon you'd love. Went bankrupt and they just left it there. It's in part of my movie. Just don't get caught if you go there. .
Ahh! That's the same place and the old guy from Into The Wild, when Emile Hirsh and Kristen Stewart spend a day toghether near the hippy trailer park! Anybody else notice this?? Amazing, inspirational film, and a great guy!
This was so astonishin. Funny thing is, I don't know if I wanna feel sorry for the old man who had spent 30 years building something reminding me of a beacon of light, or hope even. Or, if I shuold feel happy for him, as he seems to have found a purpose in life, something most modern people can only dream of.
I live a few minutes away from the Salton Sea, so close that if I step outside I can sea it. I like this video because it captures the mystery and beauty of Salton City and the surrounding areas while other documentaries make it seem like something that should be removed. well done.
For the sake of the errie-ness of the film you're making it seems like it was mostly a man-made disaster when in fact the run-off was caused by extremely heavy rain in 1905, which caused overflow of the Colorado river and a levy to breach, which eroded two new rivers that poured into Salton. The film is still great though lol
Thank you!! This is great. I've been totally entranced by this place for years and you captured the essence of my hypnosis. (I just wonder what's evolving in that lake now.) Superbly done. -Warren Fahy
you are amazingly talented, i loved your book and i look foward to the followups of Mrs Peregrines Home for Peculair Children and the movie and more of these awesomely chilling and haunting videos
@fairlygoodman you can look around yourself if you want. Google street view has been through. Some parts oftown were never built, but the built sections are thriving. Just like the sea itself, there are dead areas and built areas. The overarching imperial valley is a huge place though, full of agriculture, sure to the wonderful quirk of 5 growing seasons a year.
I think the most disturbing part is not the mostly decrepit buildings, but rather the ones that look still intact. With photos and decorations. It really makes you think "someone used to live here".
@fairlygoodman: In quite a few places, not only did someone "used to live there", but thousands of people still do. The scene with the graffiti on the wall, "the hills have eyes", was taken in one of the surviving communities. the post office shown at the end, in "Salton City"? it is still open. area code 92274. That was my hometown. Not only is it still open, it's actually a lot bigger than it was 25 years ago.
@daxius1234 Shortly after watching this, I did some googling and I was amazed to find that people still live here. That's amazing to me that you grew up there. Is it really as bad as it is in this video, or would you say that only pockets of Salton City are "bad"?
There is a very entertaining documentary about the Salton Sea narrated by John Waters. "Plagues and Pleasures of the Salton Sea" Everyone needs to see it!
@ki3t56 his creation is well known in southern california so im sure people bring him items and for all i know he could go up north into borrego springs
"Gridded streets, every one of them named, still waiting for neighborhoods that never arrived."
Don't know why that strikes me as so haunting. I must have watched this thing at least a dozen times since I found it. Ghost towns have always fascinated me. This is remarkable. Thanks for creating this!
Yeah i was there yesterday... the whole time i was like this place looks like fallout 3. but then u drive into the neighborhoods and its nothin but white trash, meth addicts, and niggs.. its just a big ass collection of scumbags and deserted buildings.
I have never heard of that figure of speech, I learnt something I guess.
Also, you tied it in the end with the guy building a huge 'god love you' post, it is just a bit hard not to connect them together to think it is some form of veiled theist message.
