  • Absolutely gorgeous. Bogolomova has so much radiance and charm.

  • Wow! Love the speed and exhileration of it - and especially that last exuberant lift! :-)

  • vision of beauty!!!

  • Wonderful pas de deux!

    Thank you for sharing!

    Lily

  • awesome!!!

  • I was dancing at the time I saw this for the first time and couldn't believe what I had just seen. Remember, at this time videotape, etc didn't exist and the only way one could learn ballet was from a good teacher and once in a while a touring ballet company or art house ballet film. Russia and the US weren't on very good terms.

  • I cannot view this virtuoso performance without marveling at the dancers' enthusiasm and technique. I've seen some slightly more satisfying performances, but this remains wondrously watchable.

  • those were some wicked lifts, that I agree you just dont see as often today.

  • did anyone ever do the same as them at the end???

  • This is a stunning video. Many thanks for posting it and giving us an opportunity to experience such great dancing. They are both mesmerizing.

  • write stanislavvlasov will appair the clip mobile is a better ediction

  • Lapauri and Struchkova never danced "Spring Waters" but "The Waltz" instead which is similar to this Pas. In it, Lapauri tossed Struchcova into the air above his head and she spun horizontally. This was danced at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1959.

That same season he partnered Maya Plisetskaya in "Walpurgisnacht" which made her an overnight star in the USA.

  • I saw the 1956 Bolshoi in London with Lapauri and Struchcova it was nearer to this version but I am sure the first dive was headfirst as well as the second with Lapauru throwing her in the air spinning more than once. It was the most exciting thing we had ever seen on the stage and the whole audience gasped!

  • Bylova dives headfirst in the other version on YouTube and from a breathtaking distance but she does not dive into his arms at the end. She has such a perfect graceful manner.

  • umm. I find the 1986 version to have both more powerful lifts and more raw excitement than this version. But I would agree that today we see less of it. So somewhere in there we changed course.

  • thank you for adding this version. I'd never seen it before. Its so nice to see how the ballet has evolved.

  • You're very welcome

  • Ballet has indeed evolved a lot since then, but on the other hand we don't seem to see such powerful lifts anymore. And is it just me, or has some of the 'raw' excitement also got lost?

  • Yes indeed it has been lost for the most part. The soviet ballet was THRILLING and the men in particular were both lyrical and powerful. Today in general, technique is better but passion is gone.

  • @raymonda100 I AM NOT SURE THAT TECHNIQUE IS SO BETTER,FOR EXEMPLE IN THIS MOMENT APART THE FANTASTIC IVAN VASILIEV AT BOLSHOI WHICH DANCERS ARE AT THE LEVEL OF VLADIMIR VASILIEV YURI VLADIMIROV SACHA GODUNOV MIKHAIL LAVROVSKI VIACHESLAV GORDEYEV IREK MUKHAMEDOV ?WHERE IS IN THIS MOMENT ALL THAT TECHNIQUE?

  • @raymonda100 people are too careful these days...

  • Indeed, the raw excitement, and virtuosity has been lost.
