@aristottlesdeathwish But you have to put this into perspective.
This was probably early 1980s, he had huge numbers of uptight and rigid followers, many from heavily indoctrinated backgrounds. There was a large following of Germans from a still fully divided Germany (the Germans still pretty much run the ashram in Pune)
People even back then needed this sort of shock treatment to a degree but then it's my view that this approach would not work today as people have moved on considerably.

I'm sure many insightful things come from you, but you can't look beyond an idol's apparant spiritual nature. Perhaps you're the one lacking in awareness here.
Also, don't idolize Osho. He's Human. Naturally he'll get SOMETHING wrong sometime.

@divinkee I have always felt that a true master is one who teaches their students to stand and then find their own path to follow, rather than leading them blindly down his own road.
The self-indulgent, self-gratifying ego seeks blind worship and unquestioned acceptance while a selfless guru, as this true mystic obviously is, seeks only to assist and benefit others with no thought to personal gain or gratification.

Love this guy. Disturbing people into thinking, a brilliant method that is not looked into or practiced by many people. I heard him say once that your intelligence must be like a sword, because you will have to cut away the jungle of thoughts in other people to really get to them.

regarding comment about jumping in to a lake...........she served the poor in india but she might have done it to buy a place in heaven ....... whatever she thought it was not a concern for the poor as long as they were served well........but this thing could not have "BOUGHT" the true consiousness for herself as such it can not be bought but it can just be realised so she should simply jump in to a lake and osho is pretty right about this

one who doesnt know anything about himself, one who is not of aware of himself, one who doesnt know how to reflect about his/her actions, feelings and thoughts, need people like Osho and all the other gurus. but even then one isnt true to himself, cause he/she is just following believes of other people, who have their own experiences/intentions/motivations behind their rules and philosophical statements.
