Beautiful. I wish she'd sing like this more often. On a Barbra fansite people were dissing Diana, saying her voice is thin and whispery. She just doesn't so often sing like she does here. I don't know why.
@zevnik I agree with you, and I, too, wish she would sing like this more often. But I've always wondered this, and perhaps you might have, as well.... Why is it that the same folks who diss Diana and do it on such mediums such as on Barbra's fansite, which means they are comparing the two. It is the same ones who will also post some sort of comment like, "Barbra is so much better, there's no comparison between her and Diana Ross!" WTF? Why compare, they're both great in different ways.
Ive seen Diana Ross and she is wicked i saw her at wembley late 80s and anyone who can sing and get coverd in a black tube to get changed and still be singing while changing clothes has my admiration the best £30 i ever spent leave the DIVA alone.
Whoever made that last comment. Age catches up with all of us. You can't fight getting older. I don't care how much you work out or how much surgery you have. She still looks good for age. As long as you take care of yourself, what more do you want. At least she can still sing. And she isn't on drugs like some performers.
Am I the only one who notices that she ALWAYS sounds 10X better in concert than she does as a guest on someone else's show, even if the 2 appearances are only days apart? What gives?! Insecurity? Nervousness?
I think part of it is nerves (she even said Letterman makes her nervous back in January when she was promoting the new album). I think she is especially nervous on American shows as the US has (in some ways) turned its back on her. I think Diana feels most comfortable with her own audience and their admiration gives her strength.
Alsomst each media reviewer of this tour has given special to this segment of the concert. How does that voice remain so damn clear after nearly 50 years of constant touring? She's got to release this show on DVD!
Every review of Diana's USA and European Tour have raved about Diana's interpretation, voice during Don't Explain. I wish more of the masses could hear Diana sing live.
I was at the Birmingham concert and was stunned by the quality of Diana's voice, especially during the 'Lady Sings The Blues' section. The whole show was superb.
lol I was rushing to buy my Smirnoff Ices as this started I had to run back cos it just sounded so beautiful spilling through the Arena doors. Stunning!

She is 63 I will have you know! I agree with what dianarossfan said, in person she looks smaller than various video footage indicates.

Fat?! I was within 10 metres of Diana at the Wembley show, these vids do her no justice. She still has a killer body!

What is this unique phenomenon?

I'll go along with that assessment.

I have noticed that too . . . diana sounds 100% better "live" than on her latest cd or on t.v. I wonder why . . .
